  1. Re:The next Doom? on First Review of Halo · · Score: 1

I'd have to agree with that. When Doom came out, I don't remember any other game that had height added to it. At the time it was a technological marvel that no one else came close to. The next breakthrough was quake, which changed from sprites to polygons. Graphics accelerator, anyone?

Now games like Halflife took what existed and made it better from a gameplay perspective. So this game may be the next Halflife or Duke 3d, but its not the next Doom. There are still bariers to break, but from a technological standpoind, nothing extreme happened.

For an example of what I would consider extreme would be ID's proposed project, currently Doom 3, which makes lighting pixle-dependant. Also, even though this is very imprssive, it won't come near the idea of adding an extra dimention like Doom did, or switching switching to polygons like quake did, or even rounded archways like Quake 3.
If have found that ID softaware raises the bar, and everyone else follows.

  4. Gamecube's selling point on Nintendo GameCube Clone Out In Japan · · Score: 1

From what I read, gamecube's main selling point is the ease of making game's for the system. Quite simply, they were under the opinion that impressive system specs only went so far. The next system after them will have better specs, because its a newer system. Their goal was to create good games, and the easiest way to do this would be make a system that is easy to develop and specalise on that. They said they learned their lesson from the N64, and are going to not make it again. That's why the Gamecube was a gaming system and nothing more.

Now a third party added a DVD player to the system. I see this a big plus to nintendo; they specalised in the gaming system, and let someone else deal with the gimmicks.

Now there isn't much of an excuase for me not to buy a Gamecube.

  10. Depends on the game on Making Strategy Games with...Strategy? · · Score: 2, Interesting

There are various levels of games and game balancing. Most games have more of a rock paper scisors effect of unit vs unit. For example, in Sacrifice, flying units can devistate melee units which can devistate ranged units which can devistate flying units. However, if you swarm scisccors against scisssors the person with the better troops could win, unless you have a pretty good plan (which is where squad combat, bluffs, and positioning come in). Some of the more popular games do not even have the rock paper scisscors aspect, and only give units of various power that are dependant on a global scale. In this game, it is usaly better to produce the largest amount of the best units, becuase there is not much else to do.

Other games rely on various AI levels and tactics. For example, with Dark Reign, a little know strategy game, you can set an indivudal units behavior. They can be brave, cowardly, or whatever. They can obey your orders exactly or have some sort independance and common sence, depending on a setting. How far they persue the enemy and the like are also configurable. This allows for well made ambushes. I had a handfull of units and defeated people with MUCH larger armies than myself becuase I made good use of terrain, defensive buildings, waypoints, and AI. If the game allows it, and there are more factors to the game, you can use them to your advantage. If you just have a lot of units that can either fly or stand, it is more a game of the numbers than of cunning.

The less factors a game has, the less you have to work with. Many games only have units are X strong with mabey an ability or two, so your only options mainly are to build ambushes with building-sentinels or create hordes of units. However, other games have more elements to them, such as Shogun. Something as simple as height can change a game dramaticly. Now a small amount of archers over a valley can kill everyone under. However, the more varaibles there are the less a lot of people like them. You can either have a game that is midnless killing, which is a relief from a hard day, or game of stratagey and tactics. A lot of the more popular "startegy" games are just mindless killing. Your assumptions are bassed off of games that do not even have ture 3d options or moral. If you want a game that requires more strategy, then do some research. If, after you get a game like shogun, you still think the biggest army wins, then you aren't playing with good players.

As long as the glue is nonconductive and dosen't cut any connections (which shouldn't happen, becuase the components should go on before the glue), it should still work.

My main concerns with the case have to do with the fact its organic. It could rot, retain moisture, retain heat, and warp. However, to my knowledge, glue should not cause any harm if done correctly.

  15. Two commont ips on What Can You Do When Defrauded on eBay? · · Score: 2, Informative

There are two things I notice that quite a few people ignore.

The first is consistancy. I know the critsim of the feedback system has been beating to into the ground, but there is more to it than simply buying a lot of small auctions for feedback. The TYPES of items sold are important as well as looking for tons of $0.50 auctions. I mean, I saw someone selling a helecoptor on e-bay motors that brought their feeback up by selling cd's and stero equipment. He was talking like this was a normal thing. Always check the recent auctions for consistancy before you buy from someone, and check for generic feedback. Make sure the recent auctions weren't just to boost feedback AND make sure that they are consistant. Someone buying or selling an eratic array of items is an other sign of feedback boosting. On the same topic, your GUT FEELING is usaly right, and ignoring it is a foolish thing to do.

The major other problem have I seen are people NOT READING THE ENTIRE AUCTION.

One of the bigger items in this problem are the "you are paying for information" items. This can sometimes be at the end of the description in a table or something. Spending a few hundred for a playstation 2 and finding out you were paying a few hundred to find out where you can pay a few hundred to get a playstation two is something that wouldn't happen if you read the auction fully. If in doubt, mail the seller about shipping. If the seller doesn't respond within a reasonable amount of time before the auction, chances are you will have problems after the auction as well. For expensive purchaes, read the auction multiple times. You'd be supprised how much you missed.

When dealing with computers, make sure everything is listed. Don't rely on pictures - if it isn't listed, it probably isn't there.

The biggest problem I've seen with people not reading the entire auction are computers. Computers need the following
-Ram, Sound, Hard Drive, Floppy,Case, Operating System, keyboard, modem, ethernet port, monitor, motherboard, processor, FANS, power supply, and the like.

It is very common for an auction to not list ram, or say upgradeable to X amount of ram, or 6 speakers for $40 more or something similar. This means they are NOT INCLUDED IN THE AUCTION. That means this is not a full computer.

Check for a No DOA garentee for some electronics options. Some phrasing may be ambigous, so ask. Basicly this means you should find out if when you get something if its fake or not working will you be frended or get a replacement. This is important espeicaly with electronics. Find out the warentey. I have purchased some items that have no garentees that work, and some that don't. I dealt with both with a grin, becuase i expected it. Why? becuase I read the auction.

    Read the auctions fully.

Some items wear down, like monitors. Others work or they don't, like processors. Know the diffrence when you buy used. Remember, refurbershed means used.

    Never send cash.

To sum up - Go with your gut, make sure the seller has feedback on the type of item you are buying, check the feedback ratings of the people who gave the seller feedback, and READ THE AUCTIONS FULLY

Part of the joy of cats is that they show some sort of intelegence. Having a cat with a total lack of courisity, having a cat that gives no responce to any stimuli other than direct touch, and having a cat that dosen't even chase a ball of yarn removes most of the "cat" aspect of it.

For example, I have a "stupid" cat. However, even he shows some sort of intelegence that supprises me once in a while. This can be something as simple as putting his paw under a slightly open door and using his claws to pull it open once he has a good position. Things like that make me smile. A cat will watch you and try to see how things work.

Also, the name is disconserting. I am aware that Neko means cat. I'm sure pretty much everyone does this day in age. However, Necro means death, and thats what the name sounds like. I suppose thats what this bucket of bolts is - a cat that's dead inside.
