I've only watched the first two episodes, but I didn't think it was very bad. The only annoyingly steriotyped character is that greedy, jerky guy (Can't think of his name for the life of me). Other than that, seems like a good series, with some real potential.
Besides, what other ship captain would kick someone into the turbine?:)
The "iris" still bugs me...the bit where the splash from when a stargate is activated convieniently vaporizes everything in it's path, except the iris, is a little annoying.
Granted, I haven't watch a whole lot of this show, but I was under the impression this is how it works: 1. The splash or whatever it is called can take out anything in its way. 2. If the gate is blocked (like when it's buried), no splash can begin to form, so it can't take out anything 3. The iris is positioned in such a way that it block the point that a wave needs to form.
Feel free to flame me with my mistakes. I've only watched it before/after Farscape anyway.:)
That is you increase the mass the mass of a taxi to 40000 kg, you won't lose any speed but can send cars you crash into flying into space.
I also learned that if the center of gravity of a police car is 5 feet above the roof of the car, the slightest disturbance can send it spinning end to end and bouncing like a superball. Watch out if you've in it when you do this!
I'm not afraid to admit when I don't know something. I know how to bookmark (obviously) and I know about the hosts file, but I don't know how to set up my own DNS server. Care to let a few details out, or am I going to have to go googling?
I don't know about basic, but DO know qbasic and have a compiler for that. And, AFAIK, qbasic is designed to backwards compatible with basic programs. So if I can find the code for it in BASIC, I can change the one or two commands that have changed and compile it myself. But I had no luck finding the source. I e-mailed someone who had a turbo-pascal version of it, but he hasn't gotten back to me and I don't know pascal anyway...Oh well....
Thanks. You were right. I was thinking of "Castle Adventure". Found a copy of it right away off of google, but it ran so impossibly fast that it wasn't playable. I don't think slowdown or even moslo will be able to slow my computer down enough to play a 286 game on a athlon 2000+. Too bad.
I'm currently looking for the source code (It would have been in basic, right?) so that I can add a WAIT or a SLEEP or something to slow it down a bit. Wish me luck.
I'm not sure about the bird and the cage. I never got very far in this one. As I recall you could hold like three things at a time in your inventory. There was a sword, a helmet, and magic wand, and then a bunch of treasure. The object was to escape from a castle. I remember it had a lot places like "Red Room" and "Green Room". Don't know if this is the same game, or if it was just playing a cheap PC rip-off.
Anyway, if anyone cares, my humorous story was that I was playing this game off of a 5 1/4 floppy disk and was having a lot of trouble getting past a certain point. The door to one room was blocked by a enemy you couldn't fight. I took out the disk and resolved to continue the next day (there was a save game function). The next day, I put in the disk and started the game, but for some reason, parts of some of the walls (created with ASCII char 178 or so) were missing! I thought that was weird. On a whim, I tried to walk through the new space and it works! I thought that was awesome and I resolved to explore this new part of the castle. I found some neat stuff, but didn't want to save since this was cheating, so I decided to see how well the programmer had made the game. Since the object was to escape the castle, I simply ran to were there was a hole in one of the outer castle walls and ran through it to an area that you should not be technically able to get to. Sure enough, it declared that I had one the game. (Although I didn't score many points because I never collected all the treasures that were in the parts of the game I hadn't explored yet.) I eventually figured out why this happened - When I removed the 5 1/4 floppy, I found that a piece of paper had be stuck to the bottom of the disk and was covering up a little piece of the magnetic disk. Oddest bug ever.
Does anyone else remember the old computer Adventure game? I played it at a grandparent's house long ago, and I'm pretty sure that's the name of it, even if it wsa a completely different game. (Funny story behind it, but if I tell it now, I'll be modded offtopic)
Anyway, this one was pretty easy to beat. Wish the higher levels were in there too....
And worse, what if the can copy the brain, but don't have the emulator completely bug free? I can see the update list now:
0.61 ----- What's new: * Fixed bug in BrainFlip function. Left handed people no longer horribly confused. * Complete rewrite of the subconsious subroutines * New macros have been added to declare common callback functions and enforce naming conventions.
We think we've got all the major bugs out now, but if you start studdering or crashing, have someone send an e-mail to debug@EmuBrain.com. Please include the conditions of your thinking process at the time of the error.
From the article, it seems to imply that this little bot is more of a (very expensive) robot designed for learning to program and for experimentation:
Pekee helps you understand robotics, from basic concepts to high-level development in the Wany Robotic Software Lab(TM).
So it should be pretty easy to use. Plus, it seems to be able to plug in up to three cartridges. (The camera comes on one and the 802.11 wireless module comes on another, but that still leaves one for you to use for whatever) And it looks like you can buy blank boards to test your own cartridges on.
Gateway started out of my hometown, Sioux City, Iowa, so we hear a lot more about the business than most people. As I understand it, a while ago, Mr. Waitt, the chairman (and founder) of Gateway stepped down. Shortly after, the new chairman started making poor decisions and the stock started plummeting. So Mr. Waitt stepped back in last year and has been making lots of changes. AFAIK, it was the first major manufacturer to have their commercials sell directly to the rip-and-burn cd crowd.
So I'm not surprised at all that this is one of the first big manufacturers to sell non-Microsoft Office suites. (Don't bother flaming me with all the companies that did this before Gateway.)
I'm guessing part of what is draining their budget would be the hardware to hand all the data units send back and forth and the storage for these numbers. In the last few months, it seems like the Seti@home site has been down more and more for maintenance.
I would guess that the sheer number of people working on this is getting outside of their scripting limits. I suspected trouble when the page for my group, Team LifeUniverseEverything, stopped updating after new units. I can use my password to manually refresh it, but doing that weekly is kind of a pain.
Please note that Lik Sang International Limited has always sold the products in questions with the legitimate use in mind and the products haven't been considered as illegal. All the Court Orders have been issued before hearing a single word from the company. However, Lik Sang is not committed on selling the questioned products in the future.
Of course, it doesn't say they are committed not to sell them. Hmm....
I'm at Cornell University right now, and interestingly enough, the administration has seemed to be doing the exact opposite, relaxing their guidelines.
The first week, we had take an online class where we learned that if we got caught sharing, we would have community service and stuff.
Then last week, they basically send an e-mail saying that they didn't care if we downloaded stuff, as long as we didn't upload stuff. I'm too lazy to go and check the e-mail, but I believe it gave directions on how to turn off uploads in KaZaA. Weird.
Yeah. QuickBasic is great for that sort of thing. Seriously, though, I've had to go back and redo half my programs since I switched to XP Pro from 98. I mean, I know the DOS is XP isn't REALLY dos, but they did a pretty crappy job of faking it.:P
I rushed to make a witty comment about qbasic (if C, C# and C++ are all in it, Basic and qbasic can be, too.), but decided to check the 50+ posting first, lest I was rendered redundant.
Sadly, no one has stood up and defended the honor of the programming language that warped my mind so much that I can't seem to learn anything else....
Anyway, Qbasic would probably just complain about how useful it was for making programs for simple tasks in under five seconds until XP made all of these programs run unbearably slowly....

Amen to this. I just finished e-mailing my admin. Seriously. :)

Which could happen if these guys tried again:

This is, in fact, no relation to Mighty Mouse.

Ok, you've been playing entirely too much Revolution X. ;)

Darn. You just beat me to the punch. I guess I'll get my first redundant post today...

I'm glad I'm not the only one to remember that.
1. Steal rocket belt from partners.
2. Do not let Nazis get it.
3. Remember to patch that hole in it. Gum just won't cut it anymore.
