But that's NOT as good as we can get. Apple sacrificed possible battery life for aesthetic thinness, as is their wont. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that's the best that could be done.
I don't think there'd be such a fervent gang of Android "fanboys" if Apple weren't trying to annihilate Android.
I love my Android phone. I get the most out of the freedom it allows me as a user & and as a developer. The thought that Apple's bully tactics could destroy the Android ecosystem and leave us with iOS & Windows Phone, both locked down, disturbs me greatly. I'm particularly disturbed by the level of lockdown on iOS, not allowing "competing" apps, taxing competing content stores 30% - I've been a longtime MacBook Pro user and was always grateful there was an ideal Unix-y desktop (I love Linux, but have found Desktop Linux to be mostly frustrating, but sadly the iPhone and its success has given Apple the opportunity to really be the vicious, arrogant, control freaks they really are.
Granted, I think the Android ecosystem's survival is under far less threat now that Google has bought Motorola Mobility, I'm sure that if Samsung, HTC et al. decided to abandon the Android ecosystem - Google would make something more of Motorola. One can hope anyway. I hope they do that anyway.
OT: Now that you've moved to OS X, what media player are you using? I begrudgingly use iTunes, syncing my Android phone via Samba & iSync. But it's not ideal, I'd much rather use something else, but sadly Clementine didn't feel polished enough.
There's no real time saving if you still have to code it yourself. Which of course you do.
This isn't a "novel" concept. It's an obvious feature that you would spend very little time *designing* and the majority of your time *developing*.
Pretty tired of Apple. This is MacOS vs Windows again, but this time Steve Jobs decided he would try every legal weapon under his belt to destroy the competition. Makes you wonder, would there even be an Android (more than a blip that Google cancels) if Apple had licensed iOS to manufacturers?
Sorry Apple, if you don't want to allow other companies to have some slice of the pie, there is going to be competition. Perhaps compete on merit and not legal obstacles? License your patents fairly, make some more money on the side. The software patents are still bullshit, but at least you're allowing for competition - even if there is an unethical tax involved.
I don't even think it's worth talking about the ARM version. The real drawcard for this Windows tablet is being able to run all your old Windows programs. Plus all your old Windows games. It would be kinda neat playing Civ2 on a tablet.
But at the end of the day grandparent is right, the x86 tablet is going to be nothing more than a shrunken netbook. Asus Transformer with Win8. Except horrible battery performance & heat issues.
Sad, really. If there's anything out there that can fragment the Tablet market and stop the sheep believing that the iPad is the only tablet worth existing, it's a Windows tablet that you can run your favourite Windows apps on... Maybe.
Oh boohoo. They gave you a paid holiday. I once gave 3 months notice to a company that was in flux and was escorting out everyone who resigned. Sadly, they did not extend this treatment to me, and I was forced to work out my notice. Give me a paid holiday over not having my feelings hurt any day.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S outright, $369AUD it cost me. Then signed up to Amaysim. $39/mo unlimited calls & sms, with 4gb of data with free access to social media. More than I need and what I find to be a reasonable cost. And I can cancel it any time I want.
Sure I'd like to have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (it was released when I bought the S) but I can't justify the $400~ difference for small improvements.
Having been burnt before, it's nice to be able to avoid plans like the plague.
Why the arbitrary 5 year limit? Microsoft & Google have bought plenty of companies and acquired and integrated their technology to positive affect. The first that comes to mind is Rage, who ended up designing the Kinect.
I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make.
Android with Swype + Touchdown beats BlackBerry, physical keyboard or not.
There's a reason BlackBerry is dying, and that's because it's not even the best at its core niche anymore.
But that's NOT as good as we can get. Apple sacrificed possible battery life for aesthetic thinness, as is their wont. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that's the best that could be done.
Wooooooosh.
Actually you'd be better off with an MSCE or whatever it's called now.
I was going to respond with "Who would be such a cucking funt?" - but this is the Internet after all. People have done worse things.

Funny how iPhone is quickly losing its apps advantage.
Replying to nullify incorrect moderation.
I agree completely and hate when people do this. You wouldn't do it in an email.

*I'm
Parse error: "Improve it beyond being a pedantic shit."
I concur.
However, I don't think IPv4 is going anywhere for internal network management. I see no reason for internal servers to be using IPv6.
If the shoe fits...

I wonder how long this will last.
If you count someone being bound & gagged as peaceful then that's the only type of dinner date he's had.

Yawn.
Good soil isn't white.
Australia doesn't have "government run internet filters". Sure, there was some talk of it a year or two ago, but it was never introduced.
Get your facts straight.

Wow. You're trolling right? No one can be that stupid to miss such obvious sarcasm.
Please explain why you assume it must require Flash? Baseless assumptions.
The audio format is mp3 @ 320kbps. Wrong again.
I really wish I had mod points. This has to be one of the most brilliant rebuttals ever to appear on Slashdot.

In Australia, at least, they are required to pay out your notice.
I'd rather be given the heave-ho with a month of salary in my pocket than be forced to come in day after day knowing I'd been laid off.
By "commit enough resources" do you mean "buy a company that did all the research and development" -- Microsoft & Google are pretty good at that too.
