In the officer's defense, the car he was driving had a push button starter instead of an old fashioned key switch. To turn the car off, you have to hold the button down for 3 seconds. The car was a loaner, so he was not familiar with it. (I wouldn't have been either)
I never heard of that in a car, but such things are routine if my Windows-based PC locks up. Ugh, now I'm using computer analogies in a CAR thread!
Yup! To me, the best thing about my Mac is that it JustWorks (tm). I don't think OSX would work as well on a cheap Hacintosh. And if I have to tinker to get things working right, I'd rather tinker with Linux.
The secret of effective advertising is "simple and direct"; don't confuse the person (both visually and audibly), and don't allow for interpretation (which some would argue is the failing of the Apple ads...they make "pc" seem sympathetic and the Apple guy smug).
I'll add another; don't annoy the viewer so much that s/he associates the company with the annoyance. Awhile back, a car insurance company ran bad ads every few minutes on the radio. Soon after, I got a pitch from them in the mail, and I was ripping it into tiny pieces almost without thinking.
Time shifting makes up for some stupid scheduling decision a TV executive may make.
Bingo! And it might not even be a stupid scheduling decision. Maybe they showed my favorite show right when my GF was "in the mood". Yeah, unlikely with this crowd, but not totally impossible.
You only NEED one browser, and AFAIK, the OEMs don't include anything better anyway. And the usual antivirus program is worse than most viruses. I have no problem if they include DVD software, MS Office, Quicken, or other stuff. I DO have a problem with some of the spyware/adware that auto-starts that I've seen on some boxes *coughHP*uncough*.
Jocks won wars back when mankind was throwing spears at each other. Once we got guns that could out-range the strongest spear-thrower, the jocks were obsolete.
I remember Dvorak predicting that everyone would be using OS/2 on the PowerPC. OS/2 never released its PPC version, OS/2 for Intel is gone, and not even Apple is using the PPC.
IMO, W7 is what Vista should have been. It's clearly faster than Vista, and prettier than XP. It's still a wallowing pig compared to Ubuntu, but it's very good for a MS OS.
Last weekend, I installed Win 7 on my Mac via VMware Fusion. I also played around with Ubuntu. I enjoyed Ubuntu a lot more than W7. W7 is great compared to Vista. It's not bad compared to XP. But it's not Ubuntu, and brown notwithstanding, Ubuntu is not "shit".

The beer commercials contribute to one, and I'm sure there's a drug commercial for the other.

They're not peeing THEMSELVES. They're aiming it in OUR direction!
My problem is, the machine's vocabulary is too limited.
"Sorry, 'fuck you' does not compute".
I thought his stories were very good. I'm sure some writers are better, but a lot of writers are much worse.
As for the movie, it didn't suck as bad as some people say, but it wasn't anything special, and it sure didn't compare to the books.
As far as I'm concerned, DS9 is canon, Voyager should be shot out of a cannon, and Enterprise should be shot WITH a cannon.
I've read ebooks on my iPhone. It's not as good as my Kindle, but the books are readable.
And set some of their other programs TO self-destruct in 90 days.

Yeah, it's ironic that the Mac is the best computer to run Windows on.

I thought they'd brought back Microsoft Money. :P
Linux caught the bus. But MS made Linux sit in the back of said bus.
Everyone knows it costs an ARM and a LEG.
That's what they told me about IT!
Fedora doesn't suck, but last time I tried it, Ubuntu was better. And, I'm not sure being backed by RH is a good thing. ;)
I just installed 9.04 this weekend! I didn't bother burning a copy. I just pointed VMware at the ISO and it installed it on the VM.

Bingo! My netbook has plenty of power for what I do with it. And I can even live with the screen. But typing on it is a PITA.
