I used to have an old clothes dryer, but it broke. I got it fixed, it worked for a short time, then broke again. I've hung my clothes up in my basement ever since with no problems.
AFAIK, the only people who use IE6 (including me) do so because their job uses it. Very few jobs (including mine) allow Youtubing at work anyway, so why SHOULD they continue to support it?
I see it as a defense against a company that wants to "fucking kill" them. GoogOS isn't going to threaten Doze anytime soon, but it does give Google an OS that they, not their competitor, control.
Just a note here: cooperative multitaking may cause a system to become unresponsive, but it won't cause a system to crash. In both the case of cooperative multitasking and the lack of memory protection, the stability issues were caused by applications rather than the operating system (in virtually every case). As such, it was quite possible to choose applications that did not affect the responsiveness or stability of the system as a whole. Granted, that was virtually impossible to do for web browsers in the case of the classic Mac OS.
I never used Mac Classic, but I had similar experiences with DOS. DOS itself was quite stable, but it didn't do squat against buggy applications.
Agreed! Often, when my GF is giving directions, once we get there I'm scratching my head wondering where the hell we are. I never have that problem when driving by myself.
I'm sure we can all relate to this. I can, to this day, rattle of half a dozen phone numbers from BBSes back in the day that are long since gone, but today I can't even remember my sister's phone number without looking it up
I know my GF's home phone number because I learned it before either of us had a cellphone. I DON'T know her cell number, even though I call it more often than her landline. I just navigate to $HERNAME mobile and hit the button.
If I plan to be surfing for a long time, I'll go to my computer. If I'm watching TV and think of something I want to check on, I'll use the iPhone. It's surprising how often that happens, and not unusual for me to continue browsing on the iPhone after I've found what I was originally looking for.
I would guess that I still spend longer on my long computer browsing than my many short iPhone sessions, but I do browse on the phone quite a bit.
Meanwhile, as of just six weeks ago, you have GM clinging to the old line: "as long as gas is cheap, Americans will want big, powerful vehicles
GM is right about that. The problem is, gas isn't so cheap anymore. The people who bought vehicles that are bigger than my first house when gas was $1/gallon were screaming in horror last year when it was $4+/gallon.
I agree that RL threats are way over the top. But the guy still sounds like a jerk, the tactics sound questionable, and while I don't condone RL threats, I'd certainly go after him in-game.
By using the SSN for identification or authentication is a bad idea since it makes fraud that much easier, the crooks only have to find one number to really mess with your life.
What's worse is, companies usually use the SSN for identification AND authentication. It would be like me using "Cro Magnon" as my ID and password everywhere!
Agreed! It's actually harder for me to recycle than it used to be. Several nearby recycling centers closed, and though the city picks up cardboard and paper items, I have to go out of my way to get rid of glass and batteries. And I don't know if that place accepts mercury bulbs.
Quite possibly.
Very much agree! Computers haven't been "geek toys" for a long time. Most people don't know squat about their computers - and they shouldn't have to.
Only if your bedroom is online. Or at a very high altitude.
Given that he works in real estate, he could have made 2.5 million in 13 years and lost 4 million in one.

I'm sure that some sickos would still rather have control of real people instead of sims.
Norton? In my brain?? That's got to be the scariest thing EVER!
I thought they did that anyway.

I'm looking forward to the port to DOS 5.0.

Well, though it's possible to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together, it IS a lot easier when one of those sticks is a match.

I like the idea. Anything that involves aiming a stream of urine towards our national leaders is fine by me.
Unless you have a long tube connected to the gas tank, you'll still have to stop.
There's probably enough wind power near Congress to do that.

But starting war with a hand-gesture is more fun.
People are still people, even if they can leap tall buildings or teleport foes in front of killer robots.
