    Do you have any idea what a "gravity tug" or "gravity tractor" is? I have the primary component of one in my back yard - a big fuckin' rock. Use the mass of the rock to change the course of the larger mass of the asteroid. Newtons law care of high school physics.

    Wow! You must have a big honking back yard. I'm reasonably sure none of the rocks in my yard would have any effect on any asteroid big enough to worry about.

    And getting a rock that large into space and in just the right place to have the desired effect is at least as theoretical as blowing it up with a nuke.

    gmail IS my real email. My ISP email was a spam bucket when I got it, and I haven't been on it for so long that I don't even remember my username/password. Though I do agree that yahoo and hotmail should probably be banned.

    Actually, Slackware 12.1 has newer software then debian stable, so I wouldn't call it being ancient

    That's like saying a Model-T isn't ancient because it's newer than the horse-and-buggy.

    * Anecdote: At one of the elementary schools near where I work, the children are not allowed to run, at all. A child ran, fell, and broke his arm. There was nothing the school could have done about it, but the parents sued anyways. Hundreds of thousands of public tax dollars later, the school decided that the only way to prevent liability was to disallow running.

    I think that school should be sued for promoting childhood obesity. :p

    Meh! In my day, I walked miles to school. In knee-deep snow! Downhill, both ways! Admittedly, I didn't have to worry about highways, but dodging angry T-Rexes isn't much better.

    That has less to do with the stability of Microsoft, and more to do with the flimsiness of Microsoft's chairs.

    Even the cheapest PCs now should be able to run Vista adequately.

    And if that had been true when Vista came out, there probably wouldn't BE a "Mohave Project" now.

    Microsoft is at fault for claiming the Vista would "run" on 512M RAM on a crap machine.

    HP, of course, is well-known for its own crapware.

    Frankly, that's the good thing about Apple, IMHO. Not only is OSX better than Windows in several respects, but Apple totally kicks the butts of HP/Dell/Gateway (though you do pay for such quality).

    I did a study on cellphone's causing brain damage, and I concluded that 100% of the cellphone users I saw had brain damage.

    Unfortunately, I didn't observe them BEFORE they began using cellphones.
