I was dumb enough to donate to a few charities, and I suddenly got constant calls from everyone in existence with a remotely similar cause, and several who didn't.
Before the DNC list, I got a dozen calls an evening. Now, I very rarely get calls. Just a few from businesses that I have a "relationship" with, and a few charities that I was stupid enough to donate to once.
I actually do less goofing off than I did in the "good old days". When I vanished into the break room, that was 15-30 minutes that I wasn't doing anything. When I'm surfing sites, I can be ready to work in seconds if neccesary.
Not only is it a hassle, but how many people even KNOW that there is a new update? I've never been notified of any updates, either on Debian or Windows. I don't know about the other update tools you mentioned, but M$ Window$ notifies me when I need to update. So does OSX. So did RedHat 9.X (and presumably Fedora). Why can't Firefox?
I have my customer number in a text file. I open that file and copy/paste it into the ING login box. It's reasonably secure as long as my box doesn't get pwned (and if it does, I'm screwed anyway).
And besides, is OS/2 really that great? Some things deserve to die. I'm not saying OS/2 *does* (i've never actually used it myself).
OS/2 was certainly damned good in its day. I don't know how well it's aged; I quit using it soon after Win95 came out because it clearly had no future regardless of its superiority to Doze.
I used OS/2 for 3 years. It was MUCH better than DOS/Windows 3.X. Hell, it was better than Win95/98/ME! But I switched back to W95 because if IBM couldn't sell OS/2 for 3 years against Win3.1, it sure wasn't going to sell against W95!:(
The U.N. IS a bunch of incompetent politicians, mind you; but they're several other things as well. And, being only human, there are limits to their incompetence. =)
Are you sure they're human? I don't think they DO have a limit to their incompetence.
Wow, I didn't know you knew my mom!:) Her VCR works for her. She doesn't see the need for anything else. My own VCR doesn't get much use since I got Tivo, but I still have 1,001 old VHS tapes.

Yes, but it's still annoying to have the phone ring 15 times an evening and hear "You can now buy $CRAP at our new price" blaring over the machine!
Until the telecrapers get that pesky law overturned.

True! I plan to keep my dual-boot Windows/Linux desktop for years, but its replacement will probably be a MacTel box.
And more expensive.
That might be true of Jupiter or Saturn, but I'm sure they'll find solid matter on Uranus.
But I absolutely refuse to Google Uranus!

Thankx!
But every communist system has had a totalitarian government. EVERY ONE!
Yes, but you won't be able to say fr**d*m or d*m*cr**y.
I couldn't get to that site. Either it's been slashdotted, or it ran out of oil.
"Warp" was OS/2 version 3.0. I don't remember when it came out, but I'm pretty sure it was BEFORE W95.

Actually, it was 3 years. OS/2 2.0 came out in 1992. 3 years with no competion and it STILL lost to Microsoft! IBM's marketing stunk!
My ATM Machine is at UMB Bank.

But not to their faces.
I once made the comment that the next revolution would happen when they came for our TVs. I see no reason to think I was wrong.

If I want to copy a file from work to my home PC, there is only one choice: ye olde floppy! My work box doesn't have a CD burner.
