KDE3 is not yet tested enough for a Debian stable release, trust me. Neither are the debs, packaging issues can play a significant part in some problems. I'm personally waiting for 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 before I start deploying it throughout work, although I tracked KDE3 CVS for some time at home (I can deal with segfaults, and it makes it easier to package if you only have to make slight changes every time, instead of being hit with one big lot in the tarballs).
The reason it's not good, IMO, is that, while KDE 3.0 isn't ready yet, it soon will be. However KDE3 will NEVER be in woody no matter how stable and well tested it becomes. You'll have to run an "unstable" version of Debian to get KDE3. By the time woody+1 comes out with KDE 3.x, KDE4 will be released, just in time to miss the freeze.

Another possible theory is that something will always happen to prevent paradox. In the case of him going back to warn his dad not to smoke his dad tells him to f**k off, blows smoke in his face, and croaks on schedule.
I don't know much about mental illnesses, but I do know something about "the system". I can easily see some pillpusher shoving their meds as a "magic" cure-all and totally ignoring any counseling, or for that matter proper diagnosis. I'm sure there are cases where drugs are needed, but there are also cases where that's the worst thing for the patient.
The thing is, if you take away his escape, you (or better still he) will have to supply something to replace it. Just blindly taking away the game won't help.
The Debian people are by the way already working on a better installer. Woody will be the last release that uses the current one. This new installer will use aptitude instead of dselect for example.
So, that means Debian will have a decent installer by 2020!
Did his mom install Windows? Or did the computer just come with it? Why should his mom update to the latest kernel? Why not just pop in the latest FreeBSD CD? If I remember correctly, it has an option to upgrade an existing system as does RedHat.
It seems to me that Yahoo Groups got buggier now that they want to charge for POP3 access. That sure doesn't make me want to spring for the 20/30 bucks per year. They'll probably foul it up anyway!
It's NOT the standard way on Debian or Debian based systems. Yes, Debian includes RPM (so does Slackware) but it doesn't track dependencies on those systems, which makes it pretty worthless.
Downloading email is NOT like being served in person. It's more like tossing the papers on your front porch. You might have found them and read them. Or maybe your wife thought they were junk mail and tossed them. Or your dog ate them.

Eventually, someone will get sued because they put on so many frivilous warning stickers that the victim couldn't read the relevant one.

They pop in their new RH cd and select "upgrade". They don't have to "rebuild" anything.

There's not yet enough demand for Linux/BSD/any other OS to support the OEM's. Micro$#it has them by the short hairs.
