This is really an absurd comment. KDE's customizability does not in any way make it harder to use, in fact, I use it out of the box without any trouble. You dont need to configure anything to use KDE. KDEs customizability does not make it harder to use. So the hell are you complaining about, that it does not take away enough of your freedom? The point is, you should be able to configure anything you want. That is my philosophy of good software design, you should be able to use the software without configuring anything, but you should be able to configure everything if you want. KDE is definitely much more like that than most UIs. That kind of UI truly respects you freedom, doesnt force you to do anything, but also doesnt tell you what you cant do, treating you like an idiot, acting like it knows whats better for you and that you should be told what you can and cant do. That is what Gnome does. Gnome is utterly hostile to users because it treats the user like a moron who has to be told what they cannot do and cannot be allowed to do what they want, because only Gnome knows whats good for them. That is why gnome is anti freedom and hates users. How Gnome can be the flagship GNU GUI, I just dont know, its the most anti user and anti freedom UI, one of the most. From what I understand is the server that you have is not x86 so trying to run the software off that is pretty much not possible, unless you can get new x86 copies or have the source and can recompile. Unless you can get sources for whatever information system you are using, it seems the dd option is out of the question, you cannot just copy the system binaries , you wont be able to just copy the binaries it would appear.
One solution i might suggest is first setting up a new Linux server, then porting over MySQL or other modern database client libraries/client over to the old Unix system. Then write a program on the old server that takes reads the data off the old database on that old Unix system, whatever it is, and sends the data to the Linux server on over the MySQL or other new database driver. Then Write new software on the Linux server that can use that data or if you have the source code for the old software you may try to port.
You could also decide to forget about porting MySQl or other modern database stuff to the old Unix server, just write a simple thing on the Unix end that generates XML data from the data and sends the XML data, or some other simple format you can come up with, over to Linux, you write a program on Linux then gets that data, and stores it into a new SQL database.
One option is to write a small server that runs on the Linux end, or to use an FTP, or an HTTP server, perhaps even with a CGI script, on server on the Linux end to get the data. Somewhere involved here will be code to take that data, read it and then store it into a database.

It is the threat of the second amendment solution, the fear of it by government, that keeps the government on its toes. A population ready to as a last resort revolt is the best defence of the constitution because the government just doesnt want to mess with the constitution and bring about the anger of the public.
So the main role of the second amendment is as a deterrent that is meant to prevent us from getting to the place where the second amendment would even need to be used.
It is sort of naive to assume that leaders have no desire to expand their poiwer. i mean, that people would think that is supreme arrogance. In fact, its human nature that once leaders get a taste of power, they want more and more of it, they become addicted to it and cannot get enough. Why wouldnt leaders want more power? They end up dreaming of the day when they have unlimited power to do whatever they want without that constitution in the way. We are very naive to think that a disturbing percentage of our leaders have never had such thoughts or such cravings. These totalitarian personalities are everywhere, they are attracted to the government, and try to work their way into it. Its basically just a fact of life. It i therefore necessary that the public is well armed, this sends a message that the people are not going to tolerate a tyranny and for the totalitarian dashes their hopes of despotism. The first thing a totalitarian will try to do therefore, is take away guns, especially the ones which are military grade, which are exactly those that presents the most threat of an armed revolt.
Anyone who thinks that governments cannot go tyrannical is also just ignorant of history. History has shown that governments which are democratic often do become tyrannies and that gun confiscation is the first step. The Nazis for instance confiscated guns as the first phases of their totalitarian agenda and schemes. There are dozens of other countries where gun confiscation has been preceded by genocide and totalitarian regimes.
Absolutely we must remain vigilant on incursions to our rigths, by electing out those who violate them, so we never end up to a point where the second amendment is the only remaining option that we have.

I really do not plan on playing games on a *shudders*, laptop. For someone that was really looking for the best value, the most performance for least cost, the desktop will always be where the cutting edge is on performance. You can't beat the desktop which does not have to worry about space, cooling and power restraints, that lead to lower powered devices that cost more.
Also, shouldn't AMD be producing x86 cell phone system on chips and working on getting these sold to manufacturers as it should have years ago? You still cannot purchase an x86 cell phone in the US despite them being available in other countries. Such chips are perfectly suitable for a cell phone and provide added benefit of compatability with PC software.
It is possible that the effects of technology can increase unemployment, perhaps not directly but in various indirect ways. It does not necessarily need to, but it does cause at least employment but it does shift it from one place to another. Since the cost of technology goes into the pocket of a human, the money is still creating jobs. as well, If the cost of the production is reduced, this *can* reduce product cost that *may* reduce displacement in the economy of that product and free up space in the monetary cycle for other products, creating jobs elsewhere. A major problem here is that, a major cause of unemployment is employees not being trained for the latest changes in where the jobs are and that they need to be retrained to where job growth is occuring in the economy. Another issue is that the increased productivity can be manipulated by corporations to increase their profits, CEO pay etc, this results in much of the benefit being absorbed by the CEO class in expanded material wealth by them, absorbing more of the monetary job creation cycle for themselves and acquiring more physical wealth for themselves. That is a real issue. Another possibility is that low paying jobs which do create a larger number of jobs may be replaced with a smaller number of engineer type jobs.The engineer type jobs may absorb more of the available monetary supply in the monetary cycle and cause more displacement in that, this effect can result in job losses as a result of these technologies. Such as if we were to automate cashier jobs, we may replace a larger number of cashiers making, often a miserable $15,000 per year, perhaps 10 cashiers could be replaced with 1 engineer making $100,000 per year, resulting in the loss of 9 jobs as a result of the engineer consuming room in the monetary cycle that was formerely consumed by 9 people.
Unfortunately most people won't care enough about this, or rather, even know how much their freedom is limited. This does indicate the mindless stupidity of the masses. Unfortunately, those of us who do care about freedom suffer because of this, but it seems like there is never enough of us to really make a huge dent in the big corporations profits to really care. Legislation is one way to get more of these rigths secured, such as the right to net neutrality and as well by banning mandatory trusted computing things. Its actually easier to get this done, because you are asking for people to sign a petition which is easier than giving up their gadgets altogether.
it sounds like it was not a discovery as, unless it exposed some sort of fundamental new behaviour of the basic forces or a new elementary particle. given knowledges of the principle forces and the elementary particles, one can predict any sort of matter that can occur or exist and that could be produced under any situation. so in this case, this discovery just verifies what could have already been predicted in a computer model.

Is it actual life? I doubt it. For scientists the discovery of some chemical might be earth shattering, but it can be interesting but less than earth shattering for others. I do think a chemical that is a precursor to life or even indicates the presence of such (maybe a limestone or an algal deposit such as stromatolite) would be very interesting.

There does seem to be some, conspiracy to destroy the white race. The conspiracy clearly seems to center on whatever has taken control of the Democratic party. This is really an absurd comment. KDE's customizability does not in any way make it harder to use, in fact, I use it out of the box without any trouble. You dont need to configure anything to use KDE. KDEs customizability does not make it harder to use. So the hell are you complaining about, that it does not take away enough of your freedom? The point is, you should be able to configure anything you want. That is my philosophy of good software design, you should be able to use the software without configuring anything, but you should be able to configure everything if you want. KDE is definitely much more like that than most UIs. That kind of UI truly respects you freedom, doesnt force you to do anything, but also doesnt tell you what you cant do, treating you like an idiot, acting like it knows whats better for you and that you should be told what you can and cant do. That is what Gnome does. Gnome is utterly hostile to users because it treats the user like a moron who has to be told what they cannot do and cannot be allowed to do what they want, because only Gnome knows whats good for them. That is why gnome is anti freedom and hates users. How Gnome can be the flagship GNU GUI, I just dont know, its the most anti user and anti freedom UI, one of the most. Perhaps RMS should intervene or rescind their GNU accreditation.
From what I understand is the server that you have is not x86 so trying to run the software off that is pretty much not possible, unless you can get new x86 copies or have the source and can recompile. Unless you can get sources for whatever information system you are using, it seems the dd option is out of the question, you cannot just copy the system binaries , you wont be able to just copy the binaries it would appear.
One solution i might suggest is first setting up a new Linux server, then porting over MySQL or other modern database client libraries/client over to the old Unix system. Then write a program on the old server that takes reads the data off the old database on that old Unix system, whatever it is, and sends the data to the Linux server on over the MySQL or other new database driver. Then Write new software on the Linux server that can use that data or if you have the source code for the old software you may try to port.
You could also decide to forget about porting MySQl or other modern database stuff to the old Unix server, just write a simple thing on the Unix end that generates XML data from the data and sends the XML data, or some other simple format you can come up with, over to Linux, you write a program on Linux then gets that data, and stores it into a new SQL database.
One option is to write a small server that runs on the Linux end, or to use an FTP, or an HTTP server, perhaps even with a CGI script, on server on the Linux end to get the data. Somewhere involved here will be code to take that data, read it and then store it into a database.
