Under Linux (and all real OSes, as opposed to Windows where, until recently -- and still, because some software refuses to run as a mere mortal user --, any user could go and format the hard drive) it is thoroughly IMPOSSIBLE to screw up the computer unless you are root or the sysadmin has misconfigured something.
Hate to burst your bubble, but as far back as Windows '98 (and most likely, even '95), you are not able to simply 'format the hard drive'. Windows prevents you from doing so to the boot drive. That's not to say that you can't format other partitions/drives in the machine, but not the boot drive.
Before you start bashing products, make sure you know of what you speak.

Tell that to book publishers. I am not sure exactly how to search slashdot's back articles, but I do remember reading at least a few where they were angry about book stores (and, I believe, even Amazon) selling used books because they were loosing new sales.
Like I said, I'm not saying I agree with it, but it does happen. That's just corporations for you.. =]

I sold a jason costume on Ebay after halloween and ebay and Warner Bros/Bitches I was infringing on their copyright? I told them to fuck off since I was selling a costume I bought from a company that was manufacturing it. All this dmca/drm shit is getting beyond ridiculous...
They didn't have a problem with what you did that relates to DMCA/DRM. To assume that is just absurd. The problem they had (and I'm not saying I agree with it) is that you selling the costume takes the money they would make, if the person who would have bought it from you, from them; If you follow all that.. =]
But still who in their right mind would run the risk of permanently damaging their eye by looking into a fiber when you have tools made to do with out risk to your self.
Probably the same pepole that need a tag on their hair dryer to tell them not to use it in the bath/shower. The warnings you see on varied products telling you not to do things are ONLY there because some idiot has already done so.
As a side note, I did not live in Kirksville when Wal*Mart moved in and killed the KMart. I moved here only a year or two after it happened and upon the locals here learning of my having moved from SoCal, it was all they could talk about. Something about having issues with what Wally-World did.. Heheheeh
You buy stuff from Wal*Mart, in the town I live, because Wal*Mart moved in, lowered their prices BIG TIME to kill off the KMart that WAS here, succeeded in killing the KMart, then moved to a larger building and raised their prices back to what they would have been with no competitors. The closest place to buy things other than the Wal*Mart is around 90 MILES away (I live near Kirksville, MO, and the closest town with big name stores *other* than Wal*Mart is Columbia, MO). If I wanted to go to a big name electronic store, I'd half to go to Kansas City - A roughly 3 hour drive - in one direction! - to find a Circuit City (Not sure if they have anything like Good Guys or Best Buy.. I know they have both in Omaha, NE, where my mother lives). We simply don't have any choice; anymore.
I know I'm not the only one who isn't going to drive a 180 mile round trip just to grocery shop/get needed daily items. To expect me to do so is just stupid.
I never said that was a bad thing. I also never said I disagreed with using the program for the reason you mention. I was only stating a valid (to Apple) reason as to why they could have a cow about the program.
Nothing more.
(At least my previous post didn't get moderated -1 Flamebait like my last one in the article about apple stealing shareware software from it's author like MS has done on numerous occasions......)
Because there's nothing preventing a malicious person from obtaining the songs (either with stolen credit cards, or otherwise), using this software to create a non-DRM'ed version of the song, and then putting it on Kazza (or some-such-network).
No, he didn't. I am in the Linux Community and do not share his opinion. There are many more like me.
I have gotten into many a heated arguement in varied linux IRC channels on why things can't be eaiser than they are today. The arguements were not me against the whole channel (it usually split 50-50). Once we can get the stubborn asses to see that having to go to the command line and enter in a bunch of cryptic crap or modify a bunch of.conf files to get something to work (even if you only half to do it once) is NOT the best way to do things, even if it only makes installing hardware easier for THEMSELV'S, things will improve..
Untill then... There's always Gentoo. As far as installing devices, with the recent LiveCD's, a user (during the install process) can setup the kernel that they will end up using every day to be like the one on the LiveCD - in that it will automatically detect any devices that are supported by that kernel and set them up for you. I don't know how this would work if you put a device on the system AFTER it starts (as I haven't use it at all), but it's a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sure that's not a capability that is only available in Gentoo either. It's only what I'm familiar with.
The next show Fox needs to bring back is FireFly. I loved that show..
Especially, that one time, where the captain was standing over this evil killer guy, and he was like "If I let you go, you half to leave me alone, and the evil guy was like "I'll hunt you with my last breath", and the captain guy kicked him and he flew back into this, like, jet intake on his space craft and got all killed.
One who gracefully uses windows does not know how much they are being taken by a company that steals software and ideas from small (shareware) companies, as they can not pay for an attorney, microsoft gets away with this and calls it "innovation."
Oh really? What should we call it when Apple does it?
Judging by your post, I'd say your Apple Computer (TM)(C)(Whatever else) isn't helping you with your spelling, grammar, or sentence/paragraph structure. Maybee next Apple should stea^H^H^H^Haquire some of these dictionary/thesaurus items and put them into their OS for you?
Yup.. Makes me just want to jump out of my chair and go into debt just to replace all of the equipment/software I have with Apple branded stuff. Yea. That's what I'll do. Hope it doesn't affect how *I* post...
I don't think you can criticize the existence of the censored CDs though. The label has to make something available for the radio market and if they have to do that they might as well make it available for the general public, because (strange as it may seem to you or me) there are people out there who get offended by the word "fuck".
Then, there are those of us who aren't offended by the word, but just don't feel the need to hear it as every other word of a sentence (or in this case, a "song", if you can call Rap "music" let alone a "song") along with the 'smacking up of bitches' and 'popping caps' in people's asses, etc.
Since the KDE camp has always been strongest at SuSE, and with the now merger of Novell/SuSE/Ximian, are the KDE guys going to be left out in the cold?
Well, the Gentoo team would be more than happy to invite them over. I know I, for one, would welcome our (possibly) new KDE masters! =]
When are you going to wake up and learn that people (at least all the ones in the state I'm in), in general, don't care about good. They care about cheap. No one that I've ever run into that uses refilled ink tanks cares how good the ink is. The first thing out of their mouth is "Look how much I saved!"
I have several, and feel *exactly* the same way as the parent. My cat is in the house (and STAYS in the house) to kill/catch mice, and my dog is outside keeping people off my property. Either one of them need major medical? I'll have 'em put down first.
Being sick, for a 'pet' is enough. Forcing them to go through all sorts of silly medical crap is just crap in my opinion. Easier to just end the suffering..
And before you bleeding heart morons start coming after me with "how would you feel if the same happened to you" crap, I'd say, if I were in someone elses care and it was too much for them, I'd expect the same thing to happen to me..
No one (that is sane and levelheaded, that is) has said the *AA's can't protect their copyrights. At least not from what I've read.. What most in here have complained about is the *way* in which they are doing so.
You don't get out much, do you.. The GC is already $99, so obviously the article is talkinga about the Play Station dropping in price.
Hell, you don't even half to get out to know the GC is already at $99. They have plastered advertisements all over TV about it.. A really stupid ad at that...
Try doing just a LITTLE research, just once in your life...
Three groups (in this case) combining resources to make one really good disk partitioning program is quite different (as they are more focused on making a good product instead of grabbing as much money as possible) than a huge company pulling anti-competitive moves to knock everyone else out of the market, you moron.
I've only ever had to use one command for any of my install tasks. Emerge.
(This is the part where I get marked troll or flamebait for stating that distros other than Debian have good package management)
(This is also the part where I wait for the next portage and all it's goodness)
How..
Many..
Students..
Do you think know that.
Viola.
Plus, there is always POLEDIT.
Run Poledit.
Open Registry.
Disable Shutdown to DOS mode option.
No more ability to format C from DOS mode.
Voila.
Wanna try again?
Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Then you aren't an ISP. Your just a hosting company.
Unless, of course, they offer TV, phone, and whatever else through those lines...
May not saturate the line all the time, but it would use up one hell of a lot more bandwidth..

Reminds me of something Eddy Izzard once said. I'm going to change the words to fit here, obviously.. Lets see how many recognize where it came from..
"We're gunna sue, we're gunna sue... If we did, we'd be just as bad as the RIAA... run away, run away, run away..."
(Ok, so I had to change it alot, but I still thought it was funny.. )

Come back when you have a clue ready.
Now.. what if all three groups combined their resources and put the best parts of each into one GOOD program?
See? You get a program that does what each one of the seperate programs do best, and only one install routine.
