"Take tech support. If you are answering phones, you can't be merely functional in English you must be completely fluent and familiar with the culture, the idiomatic expressions, and, now, even adopt the American accent."
Whoa! What kind of tech support are you calling? The platinum tech-support package that came with your new Rolls-Royce?
Many of my tech-support conversations go about as smoothly as my conversations with cab drivers.
I for one hope that this only turns into an opportunity to strengthen the PB. It looks like they are still accepting donations at http://www2.piratpartiet.se/
More importantly - support PB financially and publicly with Apparel! As I understand it, most of the profit from this store goes to the PB.
But there were some indie hits. Duke Nukem 3D was really successful; so successful, in fact, that they haven't needed to produce anything for the past decade in order to keep the company afloat. Quake was produced by a relatively small company driven by one rockstar programmer (John Carmack). But games have just gotten to big and too complex to be produced by "indie" studios.
I hope you're not trying to say that there will never be a "Duke Nukem Forever"!!
the space is required for the predicted patch volume required for MediaPlayer 11 through 17, oh, and for all the kick-ass animated skins that will surely be packaged in these media players by default, oh, and the skins will load into memory on startup for faster skin-swapping capability, oh, and some of the HD space is needed for the hi-res texture maps for the 3D clippy that will be included in office Vista edition.
"this is a pretty obvious conclusion to draw and I don't think anyone in their right mind would disagree with this"
Oh dear, I'd be a rich man if I could write a script clever enough to filter out any permutation or paraphrasing of this statement - it's the hallmark of idiocy. People claiming just this have wasted massive amounts of other people's time throughout history.
yeah that would be kind of cool, you could appeal to a whole different audience with a "decorate" mode where a character that looked like Christopher Lowell had weapons like spray can, poster bag, light fixture applicator, tree-planter, etc.
"Also, I'm pretty sure nobody on the team had any idea of the jokes that might be spawned."
yes quite right, it seems unlikely that a bunch of math and engineer nerds would have any idea whatsoever. I mean it's like if I drew a ven diagram you'd have one circle representing hentai fans and another circle representing robot jocks, and they'd be like almost completely separate.
I wish I could agree with moviemodel's dreamy idealism, but I've seen enough of the ugliness of the MPAA to believe that it's completely unfounded. The situation in China is desperate, it's not only cheaper, it's often more convenient to purchase pirated movies there, and often you're getting some pretty decent fake packaging and decent quality rips too. The MPAA does not have the power to manipulate the Chinese government as they do in this country and they are finally realizing that they must compete at the basest level - competitive pricing, to survive there. Between lobbying and lawyers, the MPAA will continue their reign of terror in the US at least for years to come.
Well I'm not going to take Insteon seriously unless they start throwing a lot more popups my way. Maybe you're having trouble because you're not using your X10 gear the right way - I never really read into it, but from the popups I ascertained that X10 cameras were for spying on scantily clad models - is that what you mean by "home automation"?
I think that component systems are something that nerds embrace because they allow a greater level optimization and flexibility. I too subscribe to this ideology. However, I for one am willing to sacrifice a bit of this compulsion in the realm of portable electronics; while the gargoyle / utility belt thing might be able to be pulled of with elegance, you just can't beat the simplicity of the grab and go freedom a unified device can provide. Sure, if you spend most of your days in a very tech dependent occupation or something, going gargoyle might make sense, but to best meet the needs of a diverse and hectic lifestyle, I think integrated is the way to go. Do you really think that the masses want the disintegration you speak of? I agree that the "converged" solutions currently suck, but they certainly could (and unfortunately probably won't anytime soon) be a lot better. Sure they still might not live up to your theoretical utility belt as far as functionality, but I'd say convenience trumps in the portable world.

The Future of the PDA

· Score: 3, Interesting
that's why I bought mine, but I evolved and now use it as much as a PDA as a GPS. I hope this article is wrong, but I fear that the ubiquity of the cellphone and the well recognized need for integration of portable devices will push the format more towards a phone form and less toward a PDA. This is a shame as the PDA is in my opinion a far better interface and could easily accommodate gps, bluetooth phone, media player, and simple camera functions.
wriggling over sand, to simulate the slippery conditions of the gut
c'mon, nobody had any poo available?! Unless you're on a really high fiber diet, sand seems like a poor model.
nah, nobody watches that anymore - it's boring because Japan always wins.
I think it basically has something to do with:
If poincare conjecture = proved , my homepage switches to harsh new look. QED.

Did you RTFA? No.
that is one thing I did learn about alot of Swedish people. Intolerant, narrow and materialistic and selfcentered."
perhaps you meant to say "that is one thing I did learn about alot of people. Intolerant, narrow and materialistic and selfcentered."
alot of people are like that, period. No political or geographical domain is exempt from this inevitable curse of humanity.
wow, that is worlds cooler than the posted article. Man, I wish these were for sale... for an incredibly low price.

looks, well, a hell of a lot like the "old" slashdot without the safety rounded corners.

I always knew banana peels would be our undoing.
-O'doyle rulessss.....
yes and don't forget that Ima Bohr, Whadda Bohr, and Yura Bohr all founded the Institute of Neutrino Generation - Commonly referred to as Bohr-ING.
but, but, if we didn't post this stuff, who would go see the movie??
"yeah I dreive a foucus zx3"
that's pretty much what I would have guessed...

This is good because it will make an excellent peer enforcement system when they put the street curfew into effect.
All hail fear, long live fear!
You know... if Microsoft integrated a spell checker that shows squiggly lines in Internet Explorer, the main reason... to shoot myself is manifest.
sigh... you obviously know nothing about fashion.
