Chances are, that candidate is John Kerry. His wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, is the owner of (or one of the owners of) the Heinz Ketchup company... which has 57 factories, out of 79 total, overseas. Ironic, really, that the Heinz 57 Ketchup company has 57 varieties of outsourcing. Here's my link for an article that says so.

This isn't irony and none of these jobs are offshored. Heinz is a global company with global markets. These foreign companies serve their local markets.

  5. Re:You'll be sorry on Qwest To Offer 'Naked DSL' · · Score: 1

I had a similar problem with PacBell in San Jose. I had just moved into an apartment and ordered phone service. The company left a note saying everything was go but I had no dialtone in my apartment. I called service and was told there was a problem with the premise wiring and they would charge me to fix it. I thought, "Oh yeah?" and went to the basement with my Fluke and a cellphone. I called my number and probed the connections (there were only six apartments) and never found the ringing pair. When the craftsperson came out I told him what I hadn't found. He discovered the wrong pair had been tied in down the street. If I hadn't checked the circuit myself they would have made me pay for the call. And the whole time the guy complained about PacBell and said he was moving to Phoenix to work for Qwest.

  6. You'll be sorry on Qwest To Offer 'Naked DSL' · · Score: 1

I had Qwest Pro 1Mb/1Mb DSL. Every Monday it would quit working. At first, I would call the NOC in Phoenix and they would reboot the DSLAM. This wasn't a major inconvenience until they routed all the support calls to India where you would have to go through their scripted drill of re-entering the router configuration before they would put in a trouble ticket. This took at least 1/2 hour and then they wouldn't get around to rebooting the DSLAM until the next day. Qwest and their DSL service are the worst. When I canceled the DSL service they kept billing me and I had to call the State Attorney General to step in. Now they claim to have cleaned up their act but buyer beware.

  7. Re:Will last about 1/2 hour... on An Ignition Interlock In Every Car? · · Score: 1

1.It will probably be a crime to disable the device. This could turn a simple speeding ticket into a trip to the pokey.

Repeated drunk driving rarely leads to a significant stay in the slammer here in NM. Only drunk Indians killing white people on Christmas Eve or Nebraskan tourists gets attention. There is no reason to believe penalties would deter people from disconnecting these.

    2. New Mexico has periodic (annual, IIRC) vehicle safety inspections. If your interlock were disabled, you wouldn't get your inspection sticker and couldn't legally drive your car.

New Mexico has no such thing and never has. We don't even require voters to present ID at the polls.

    3. As you mention, interlocks now are used by court order only. This is Constitutional and reasonable. Someone needs to re-educate Mr. Martinez about the Constitution:

There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents this from being implemented.

  8. Don't fall for it!!!!!!! on The Self-Tuning Guitar · · Score: 4, Funny

It's a conspiracy developed by the wives of guitar players to eliminate a reason for buying another guitar!!! The "I need another guitar for an alternate tuning" has been ironclad for the last 50 years. If you run across one of these turn away. Don't look at it. Next they'll comeup with a guitar that lets you interchange bodys, neck and pickups to eliminate the "I needed a (insert one: Gibson (insert one) LP, SG, ES335,etc Fender (insert one) Strat, Tele (insert one) w/HB,, w/S, 12 string, Rick, Gretsch, PRS, etc) justification.

I've been offered two contracts with this kind of language and in each instance we were able to negotiate something we both felt comfortable with. Also in both instances the first thing they said was just ignore that part of the contract. It was only after I crossed it out they were willing to negotiate. You don't need a lawyer for this. Tell them what you do on your own time and have that excluded.
