I find that people who ask dumb questions tend to be ignored. SO is a useful tool for many as it has quite a knowledgeable user base but asking that base to cater to people who haven't done a minute of research is ridiculous... they are volunteers at the end of the day!
Knowing how to optimise society for people might be just the job for a computer, as it sure isn't done very well by humans...
of course, if the computer is owned by a mega-corporation then we have more reason to be sceptical. Hopefully someone is implementing the Three Laws.
Nice that the manufacturers can guarantee no damage. My first thought was that a speeding criminal with no engine or steering might plough into somebody but they obviously have this covered.
This being the US, it will only be used when bullets have failed anyway.
IT seems almost unique in that even entry-level jobs require further study (in the employees' own time) just to keep up.
Maybe I'm in the wrong place but when I start a project I'm expected to hit the ground running, often with a new technology where no time has been allocated for learning.
This is why skills are learnt from Stackoverflow rather than formally taught - there is just no time! Technical debt is usually for someone else to worry about as well:(
Weird, i own a car that cost less than $5000 and it has most of the features of a typical 2018 model....
Thanks to the kind folks that buy new and then wear them in for me!
Imagine, if nice people were actually rewarded! I suspect China will not be the ones to crack this particular puzzle, and more likely will have horrific consequences for enemies of the state though...
Just think, one day, forum upvotes could actually be worth something:)
Middle classes hate paying for tradesmen, know what they earn, yet are still fine with their kids racking up huge bills to do a shitty degree in Humanities - because it's the middle class thing to do.
We have gone through a few social networking tools and it turns out the most popular one is pretty simple.
People don't want to jump through loads of hoops to contact friends.
Why do you think people give up privacy? Because it enables convenience!
Make it worthy and unfriendly, like Linux, and it won't be adopted;)
The friendliest online forums i find are for more niche interests, like hobbies and arts. Users tend to be a little older as well. I wouldn't say I find Reddit oppressive, at least the subs I visit, but the platform does suffer from loose moderating which means most threads degenerate into memes and rubbish - but I can't blame the platform really - it's what happens when you get a crowd.
Niche forums are smaller and nicer...
Great, so can i expect the number of 'friend' requests to drop from 20% to even lower? Currently about 80% are recruitment agencies anyway... maybe I just don't understand LinkedIn!
When people are incentivised to think outside the box of course they will be bored shitless with reality - especially the traffic jams!
And microdosing lsd before lunch helps that detachment:)

Can we start calling them smartcameras? My actual phonecalls account for 0.001% of use, as do most others!
I didn't RTFA to see what the original size was but 2GB less doesn't seem that much to gain. I mean it's hardly Linux Slack size is it?
Wouldn't it be easier to bug their house?
At that bitrate it will take me a week to download a weekly show :(
Thank goodness this dangerous maniac is behind bars!
This is as close to magicking money out of thin air as it is possible to get without having a lucrative gig in Last Vegas.

Am imagining a humourously un-PC bot interviewing me, please let this happen!

It's going to blow his tiny mind when he realises the Earth is not flat! I want to see that reaction!
How about 'binaural beats'? No electricity involved, just sound.
Have they trialled this in any other countries, by chance?
Not sure if any party is likely to pay up but you go for it.
Sounds absolutely disgusting but I guess it beats rhino and tiger.
Jesus H Christ America! We may have shitty dental care but even our temps have about 20 days paid holiday.
