After RTFA, it seems not so much that they prepare and believe zombies to be a threat, but more like page on that you should prepare for emergencies. And, maybe a bit lame, they choose a popular theme to explain how you should prepare as well as what the CDC is for.
Ok, that was reality, let's get back at poking fun at CDC
Well, I don't use this for my none work stuff. That is just a big mess in a drawer just like everyone else;-) I usually work at clients so it is really useful to be able to access anything as long as you've got access to gmail.
And the key is paying for a good and fast scanner with a document feeder that can number the files.
I do just that for my company. I use the sequential numbering stamp, scan everything, (got a full duplex scanner with document feeder). The scanner numbers the scans automatically. I then use a small program where I can enter tags and then it emails it to a Gmail account. With the filtering features (filter on the tags) and great search options of Gmail I can always find stuff and download the scans. I keep all the originals in folders on their numbers. So if I ever need the original I can easily find it based on the number.
The big downside is that the scans are currently not yet encrypted. For that I started a small open source project at https://github.com/AlbertPluton/Tagnlock to make some software where I can easily tag the scans, encrypt and then email the scans. The software would have been ready, but I want users to be able to easily create their own tags and options such as compulsorily or not. So we're not there yet. But it is already on Github (GPLv2)
Why is this news? None of the several hour long outage calls I've been involved with were ever on the news.
Simple, when a Linux system has a 42 seconds outage that's news. When a windows systems has several hours outage, there is nothing new about. Odd that you didn't get that..
Just this morning I read this story about the pretty crappy way immigrants are treated in Germany. And I know for a fact that in Italy it's even worse, they are very draconian in that regard.
Indeed, whereas Mexican immigrants in the US are welcomed and pampered.....
(Of course, that is no excuse for treating immigrants badly in Europe)
I can guarantee that my slides in Open Office have the same quality and complexity as they would have in Powerpoint. But I tend to focus on content and not on pretty transitions and other stuff that takes away attention. I know, I'm funny that way
If Asus does not supply Exchange compatibility they will loose business. It is to many users an important feature.
They should sell the outlook compatibility as a separate app or license priced at roughly the cost of the license. That way they only have to pay for users that use the functionality as well as make clear that this is not them but MS which making you pay the 15 USD
Certainly good advice. You should strengthen the arm and wrist. But although this may seem unrelated, improving your overall condition by sporting will help more than you might think. When I got some form of RSI in 1997, the ergonomic keyboards and mouses (only products for which I recommend Microsoft;-) and training my wrists helped. But when I started to go to a fitness club, I noticed that I really beat the problem. I do think training the wrists was the most important, but if you got the will power, don't stop there, the rest matters as well.
I'm much more in favour of an alternative to Tax, like a 'clean air' miles program. Make fossil fuels more expensive but return the money to the buyer into a special account (like with other loyalty programs you'd have to have your card swiped when paying). Make sure that from that account you can only buy green stuff like solar panels for you roof, shares in windmill parks, housing insolation etc. That can easily be done if the government runs a internet based market where it controls who gets to sell (only green products).
This will impose an incentive to use less fossil fuels, but the money will not be taken from you. If people get to spent it themselves on green initiatives, a lot more will actually end up there then on other government projects. And as people choose themselves, the endless debates on what is really green will be much relevant.
All the government has to do is to decide which products may be bought from this program.
It's 2010, why does it always have to be tax and spent by the government when we have so many new and alreayd proven technology that enables different schemes?
My tip would be WebGUI. WebGUI has a community that exists for a large part out of companies. And these companies often hire contributors (both full employment and freelance). Also with your html and css experience you could create themes. You can share or even sell them on the Bazaar.
It is based on Perl in stead of PHP. But if you stay with design you will never see a single line of Perl. And if you rather do some coding, Perl should not be that hard to pick up for someone with PHP experience.
Interesting perspective, except that your figures are wrong. Sales tax is high in Europe, but 25% is the maximum, not the common amount.
Gas is expensive indeed, but because of that Europeans have been driving more fuel efficient cars for years. Our densely populated continent is better of this way to keep the air cleaner, but also because we can keep parking lots smaller. And again, you picked the maximum (8USD/gallon)
10-19% unemployment? The average is 10.1 in Europe. And although there are some extremes like Spain at 19.7, a country with fairly high taxes (the Netherlands) is currently at 4.3. So maybe you can say 4.3-19 %. But I would rely on the official average of 10.1 And in the USA it was 9.7 in May.
And 75-99 % unemployment rate among teenagers? I have no idea where you got that from, but in Europe most teenagers are still in school/college. And the only figures I could find are that in most countries the youth unemployment is roughly twice the average, no where near 75%
If you yourself are educated the way you advocate, you in my view are a perfect example why we should encourage youth to go to college! They do teach you to do some research and how to interpret the figures. Don't think I ever saw an episode on that on Discovery.
where's an edit button when you need one ?
Hurd is not the only thing 10 years behind.....
whooosh there goes my karma
I can't tell if this is sarcasm...
Don't worry, there probably is an app for that

Monkey are ok, it those damn dirty hairless apes that is causing all the problem.
The dirty hairless apes in old T-Shirts and jeans are ok, it's the hairless apes dressed in suits that are causing all the problem

2003 is ages ago. Check out SEPA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Euro_Payments_Area
One of the main objectives:
- no differences between national and international payments in the SEPA area
So you can under SEPA still be charged, but only if the bank you're using uses the same rate for national payments.
Not sure if this already established everywhere. But personally I've done some money transfers to other countries in the EU and never was charged.

And by saying that I don't mean women are inferior - they are just different.
Indeed, and most of us here love to keep looking at the differences
I'm still hoping for a surprise party

And: in that hotel, sex without a condom is normal!
Soap is provided for as well, just need to pick it off the floor.
Ok, I'll be the man in the middle

No Vespane gas?

If you have a problem, if no one else can...
It's just an incident, you fool....
This is the same Apple news as always. When will Slashdot learn these people enjoy being raped by Steve Jobs and stop wasting time on crApple?
When we stop being entertained by bitching about it...
What? I heard if I went with Apple I wouldn't have to deal with viruses or infections!
Are you saying the birth control app is useless too?!?!?!?
Iphone 4 now comes with the complementary condom for your 'antenna'
Well if he works for sales and knows about price per GB and the IT department managed to sell 1gb for 30$ per month, maybe they should switch jobs....

If the material is hydrated again, will it become a wet sheet again? That would make for some interesting wet T-Shirt contests....
