In my experience Linux Mint with Cinnamon scales well. The only thing is that on my dual monitor setup with one 4k screen (4096x2160) and another at 1900x1200 the 1900x1200 uses the same scaling (so too large). That's where Win 10k wins as it manages to scale only the 4k and keep the other screen 'unscaled' Other than that, Cinnamon does a good job IMO
It's actually easier. I've put my in-laws on Linux (Mate as a desktop environment) and it's much easier for them. Windows 10 is terribly confusing (even for me). Mate has a 'start' menu not too different from Windows XP, using Linux Mint means that it practically updates itself. And they love the fact that they are much less vulnerable for malware. Not to mention the retarded 'Windows is updating' message lasting forever even on a I7 with SSD and lots of memory when shutting down AND starting up. At most Linux wants a normal restart after it updated itself after it quietly updated in the background. Elderly people that don't do much more than use it for online stuff are better off with Linux.
The only thing keeping a lot of people and especially companies on Windows is software that only runs on Windows. With more and more software being web based that is becoming less of a problem. Only the large volume of MS office documents will be a big hurdle for a long time IMO
How about, don't pull it out or tie some other wire that can be used to pull something new through to it and leave that in the walls (like one electrical wire, in Europe electricians often use black for that). That way if in 10 years from now you want to replace it with whatever is cool then you simply can pull that through.
I don't understand either except maybe that gmail has the feature that it treats johnsmith@gmail.com the same as john.smith@gmail.com
I actually have the same issue with Gmail. Someone in Canada has the same email address as me. I get all sorts of email. Invoices, tax returns, Netflix complaining that the bill is overdue etc.
I did all sorts of things: - reply to the sender and ask him/her to contact the person otherwise and tell him to be more careful with his email - reply in dutch to see if I get a reaction - emailed Netflix (completely useless) - pressed forgot my password at Netflix, changed the password and ended the subscription
Nothing helped. Fortunately I don't really use that Gmail address anymore. So it is not a big deal for me
Don't get me wrong, I am currently in favour of at least trying UBI and expect it to be a good thing! And there will be lots of people that can indeed think of better things to do and will do fine. But I've seen just a bit too many people that are not very likely to. Exactly the people that will glue themselves to TV and gaming. And I expect them to end up with problems. Society will have a challenge to my expectation with them.
I very much agree that this should be seen as feature rather than a bug! . However, I think a lot of people, will have problems with finding a meaningful way to occupy their days. Playing games and watching television seems awesome when you don't have the time. And there will definitely be people that will be OK with that. But lot's of people with have problems with 'having no purpose. I expect that to be an issue harder to tackle than the financial side.
I love ebooks. I tend to read mostly on holidays. And ebooks have many advantages for me: a lot less luggage, and I can decide during the holiday what to read. I just buy a book I want to read at Amazon, transfer it to my old Sony E-reader and then read it. With paper I could never do that. Amazon has nearly everything I could want and just a click away.
The old reader has no internet to speak of so it prevents me from keeping an eye out for email and browsing. Just don't read on a device that can do much more than serve as an e-reader
I'll buy Change Agent when it is published on the 18th. The author is an IT guy, which means his books are also heavily IT influenced. I really liked the other novels he already published.
You're probably right except for the update madness. I sometimes dual boot to Windows 10 on a quad core I7 with 32GB and a ssd drive. All to often at boot I had to wait over half an hour looking at the blue screen telling me to 'not power down update in progress' . This is not exaggeration, over half an hour on boot! If there is one area where Linux really shines compares to Windows it's on this. At most my distro will tell me that it needs a reboot for the upgrade to take effect. A normal reboot... no crap as it shutting down, nor when it boots. Just boots with the new kernel. Windows 7 had these long wait for update issues too, but it didn't take this long. That's a new nice and shiny Windows 10 feature.
hmm, while I get your point, I think that's not quite fair. I've been a user of Mint for a while, then went back to Ubuntu when Ubuntu Mate came into play. Now I'm back on Mint Cinnamon due to the fact that Cinnamon works great on a 4K HDPI laptop. I'm just not into KDE, really don't like Unity and Mate doesn't handle 4K well. Mint Cinnamon handles 4k quite well, has all the other advantages of Ubuntu and has an even better update system. So IMO it's a lot more than just a skin
That sounds exactly like something Satoshi Nakamoto would say...
Nah! Nakamoto would say something in Japanese instead.
That is what he wants you to think

Artificial sweeteners are the equivalent of having sex with a condom on.
well if you are a woman both indeed can prevent a lot of weight gain
And General Electric. ;)

Although when they were a startup it was still called Colonel Electric...
Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they ask me to read how to loose belly fat in just one week...
Sounds like you have a cheap and functional prioritization algorithm. Perhaps you should consider selling your managers?
I'll sell you mine, in fact there on special offer right now!

That's my point, he made sure no one was flying.
Pity the fools!
I still think it was BA who was bad here
and the backup plan for when the IT systems fail is: water and food vouchers..
If you send me two bitcoins within 6 hours I will provide an installer. If you wait longer the price will go up!

... the 50,000 Accenture employees that are actually paying attention just shat their pants...
No problem, 90% of them still wear diapers
So does that also mean it is now cheaper to have India actually send a man to the moon than to have Hollywood fake it?
