He's completely right here. You'll spend about $8,000 on tools in the first couple years and you'll probably end up with about $15,000 in tools. You won't make much money when you start. It's a pretty competative market where you work against other mechanics in your shop. When you start, you get stuck changing oil and they do the work where you can beat the books by a lot.

I don't know if you've looked into working with cars, but book rate is how much they assume it'll take you to fix something. You can usually work faster. Say book rate is 1.5 hours for changing an alternator and you do it in 30 minutes. You still get paid for 1.5 hours and you have time to work on other stuff.

But hey, it's just 2 semesters of classes. Try to get a job at a dealership and shoot for something like BMW or Jaguar. Good luck if you try it. I did just because I wanted to be able to work on my own cars.

Some other car of frat boys & sorority girls stopped to watch and one of the firetrucks ran over a girl's foot. She was paying attention to the burning car and didn't move when the firetruck drove by. That was even funnier than the car burning. I don't think she was hurt that bad, mostly jumping around on one foot screaming.

    - He was living in his mom's basement (pretty normal like the rest of us) but he tried to do his own laundry! Quite the ribbing on that one. 35 year olds don't do their own laundry.

You're right. That makes up for the cops that stood over me, making fun of the picture on my driver's license while the paramedics worked on me. They kept trying to get the paramedic to laugh too, but he said "Hey lay off" and got the cops to go away. Yes, sir. Them there cops sure is underappreciated. Nothing like a good gay bashing to get a Reno cop to say, "Go ahead and file a report if you'd like. We're not going to do anything". Yup. Those guys are underappreciated. It'd be better if I was gay, but hey, I was a funny looking punk rocker, so therefore I was gay to the guys who jumped me from behind and to the cops who had to show up. It was made up for in the surgery I had to have. Not that the cops cared because I was gay so I had it coming.
