  1. Better response: on The Setup Behind Microsoft.com · · Score: 0, Flamebait

At this point we still don't use firewalls for MS.COM sites and don't have any plans on the books to put them in place. Here is the short answer as to why:

    1. We run Linux.

  2. I think on Record Labels Change Minds About Sharing MP3s · · Score: 1

that it won't be very long before they start adding in a clip at the start, middle and end of each song saying something along the lines of "You're listening to this song on Imeem.com"

  3. Worse Than Failure on Are You Proud of Your Code? · · Score: 2, Funny

No matter what I think of my code, I always know (pray) that it'll never be bad enough to be submitted to Worse Than Failure.

That said, I do revisit code that I'd written a few years back and think "WTF were you thinking?!"

  4. DRM on Microsoft Fueling HD Wars For Own Benefit? · · Score: 1

Microsoft want to kill off HD-DVD and Blu-Ray as quickly as possible, which is probably why the HD-DVD encryption key got leaked from the 360's HD-DVD drive. That was no mistake, just a very good cover up.

Once they start getting people to download movies instead of buying physical copies they will then ensure that they're the ones supplying the DRM encryption that will only work with their software.

  5. If we can call in on Weigh In On the OOXML Issue During Live Debate · · Score: 1, Funny

then can we also request a song and dedicate it to someone?

    "Hello, who's that?"
    "Hi Robin, it's Richard"
"Hello Richard, do you have a question?"
"Well actually, I wanted to request a song please"
"Um, I'm sorry Richard, but this isn't that kind of show"
    "Oh, OK then."
    *Hangs up*
"OK, if anyone has any questions, not song requests, then please call this number..."

  6. Oh I beg to differ! on Spam Lawsuit's Last Laugh is at Hormel's Expense · · Score: 4, Funny

consumers of the Spam product would never confuse the food with junk email

I went to see Spam-a-lot in the theatre. Much to my horror it wasn't about junk email or an out of control food product, it was about some bloody knights or something like that.

    I'm going to appeal.

  7. Here we go again on Media Research Exec Says Music Industry Is On Its Last Legs · · Score: 3, Insightful

"No more albums", "No more filler tracks"

Not all bands write their singles and then pad the rest of the album out, some actually write about 20 songs, select the ones they like the most, and release an album. THEN they choose what songs to release from the album.

It's only the American Idol and other reality show winners that choose the singles prior to releasing the album (most likely because they're covers) and then pad the rest with crap.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that there are better songs on the album...

  8. Re:"Capable" is a good word on Vista Branding Confusing Even To Microsoft · · Score: 3, Funny

A 486 with 32 megs of RAM could run Windows 95 just fine. A 486 with 8 megs of RAM, however... would take literally three minutes to boot basic stuff like IE2.

    Jo, is that you?

  9. "Capable" is a good word on Vista Branding Confusing Even To Microsoft · · Score: 2, Funny

When I was at University, someone I knew had a computer that was capable of running Windows 95.

    She was using a 486.

Another reason why people use l337 when typing messages is because they can fit more words in to their text. Some contracts only allow you send a certain number of messages, 1 message is about 180 characters.

  15. Cool on Apple's "Time Machine" Now For Linux... Sort Of · · Score: 1

Think I might install this tonight. At the moment I just have a crappy little script that copies my entire home directory onto a backup drive, overwriting anything that has changed.

Looks like the Hungry Hippo release of Ubuntu will have a new application soon.

Seriously, what's the big deal? At least that's what I thought until I heard the Star Trek TOS Red Alert ringtone.. Ah yes, that one is reserved for calls from work...

You're forgetting The Imperial March for your significant other...

  18. Re:Music, in general, is overrated on Napster - Music Subsciptions Are Overrated · · Score: 1

Mainstream music coming out these days is overrated

You're completely right. There are too many manufactured bands around at the moment singing covers of covers and these talentless nobodies being backed by the Simon Cowell hype juggernaut.

Meanwhile a good band will turn up, only to be ignored because everyone's paying attention to a group that will be forgotten in 6 month's time.

And that's why I'm not buying or listening to your song, Leona Lewis.
