  1. Well said.... on The Future of RPN Calculators · · Score: 1

about all I would add is some simple programming functionality so I can do basic field calculations when I'm on site or compute payments when haggling over the price of a car.

But yea, what made the old HP's great what that they were durable and well featured *calculators*. I used to have a 42-CV, which I could do basic matrix calculations on. This saved me a trip to the terminals in college. Nowadays I have a 42s that I *don't* loan out.

If I got to do anything more complex than that, I'd just as soon be at my desktop where I can take my time and think about it anyways.

If your not lugging a bunch of extra stuff with you and there are no serious hills, 18 miles really isn't that bad on a good bicycle. If you do have to lug stuff, check out http://www.breezerbikes.com/

It's starting to appear that the UCI actually permits athletes to artificaially bump their hemocrit levels, they just limit the extent to which they can do it...but I could be wrong. I'm not a doctor, but I am an engineer and constantly overdriving a system generally means it won't last as long.

you'll have to shake that part out. However, my guess would be that a good gamer is a good gamer and leagues would be better ranked on categorized abilities as opposed to gender. Your suggestion of hours of experience would be such an example.

I understand there are theorys on visual-spatial acuity, etc., but I got a feeling that at the elite level, it boils down to tactical thinking. None the less, if somebody wants to actually test it, I'd be curious to see the results.

you see no apparent difference in ability? I really don't know but my guess would be that there is no gender based difference. From my exposure to the martial arts world, I've faced female sparring partners who were tactially as good as any male opponent I've faced. In fact, if any experienced (obviously you go a lot easier on novices) sparring partner thought I was taking it easy on them because they were female, they'd be p*ssed - and rightly so. It's a game, and they came to play - so let them.

  23. A rebuttal... on Girls in the Gaming World · · Score: 1

TEST: Allow men and women to compete in the same arena and see if a statistical variation manifest itself. Particularly one that is not explained by raw numbers of male or female participants.

CONCLUSION: Depends on results of above test.

Still seems pretty straightforward to me. Either there is a difference or there is not. "Complete shit" would be making an assumption without testing it. It would also be "complete shit" to refuse to make adjustments in the face of contrary statistical data.

My hope is that it turns out that a good gamer is a good gamer, but hey, as long as the issue has been raised, why not put it to the test?
