Oh and don't forget about Document Freedom Day on March 26th. Microsoft is getting desperate. They know they're in trouble more than anyone else. Who can compete with the Linux kernel pace of development. The first patch that took 2.6.24 to 2.6.25RC1 has 1.4M lines of diffs. I don't think their army of programmers could pull that off. Their development model doesn't scale as well as FOSS. And the Yahoo! offer was quite funny actually. Microsoft was practically begging Yahoo! to reconsider after the $40,000,000,000.00 rejection.
Linux is estimated to be on 1%-3% of desktops. There is only one tipping point so where do you think it is? 5%? That would be a very low tipping point and with leverage like that, Microsoft is in for a very bumpy ride. I hope you're right because for the first time in 10 years, my employer has forced me to use Windows XP on my Desktop (was Debian for the first 7 years, then Ubuntu came along), not for any other reason than the "It's the corporate standard". I'm doing it because they pay me but all it has done is make me like Ubuntu more. Can't wait for Hardy Heron.
So this pretty much means that there is a creator, we are living in an experiment and the creator on occasion makes changes to our DNA. This might also explain the existence of super influential people like Jesus, Gandhi, Einstein, Hitler etc..
5:00 - Alarm 5:00 - 5:30, 6:00 Do the odd thing on the computer, read news, work on website. 6:00 - 7:30 Excercise. Run about 18km 7:30 - 8:30 Shower, get to work. 8:30 - 17:00 Work 17:30 - 18:30 Run for another hour 18:30 - 19:00 Eat with family (Wife and two children, 9 and 10) 19:00 - 20:00 Calisthenics (while watching TV) 20:00 - 21:00 Spend more time with family 21:00 - 5:00 Sleep
I can run a 5k in 16:33 and I'm also geek. My UID should be enough proof. This is an average schedule. Some days I exercise less to go to my son's ball hockey game etc. My wife is an angel and takes care of the homework, meals, cleaning etc.
Sounds like an environmentally friendly way to produce electricity. I wonder how many mice would be needed to power a house. Maybe mice are too small so how about creating super chickens and somehow get them to run on treadmills. The animal rights activists would be happy to see the chickens getting some exercise and I'm sure millions of super chickens could produce a some decent wattage. Could be good for the Chicken Run movie sales as well.
Optimists tend to ignore the things that could go wrong, so they don't get stressed in the first place, and are therefore happier people. I don't agree with your definition of optimism here. Optimists don't ignore the things that could go wrong any more than a pessimist. An optimist will focus on the positive and a pessimist on the negative but neither is ignoring the other. It is a subtle but important difference.
I wish Compiz would automatically be disabled when buggy drivers and troublesome cards are detected as well. I've got an nVidia 6200 TurboCache and my Gutsy system crashes constantly with this card. I get black windows, I can't switch users without crashing the system etc.
I agree that restricting HD content to DVI/HDMI is stupid. I admit though that if my regular DVD player could do HD component out, I would probably want to purchase/download the HD DivX version of these movies and put them on regular DVDs. The quality difference would be negligible and the costs savings would be huge. Blank DVDs cost about $0.50/disc compared to $22.00/disc for HD DVD. DivX capable DVD players cost about $50.00 and HD DVD players cost about $750.00.
Google's management (from what I'm reading) gives individuals more freedom on how they work. It is from this freedom that creativity emerges and it is this creativity that keeps Google on the leading edge.

Ummm, anybody with mod points, can you please mod parent up. The post is by hansreiser (6963) - He knows what he's talking about.
I don't buy it. You've got a 6 digit/. UID. Then again, that's probably proving the parent's media point. While I was reading Chips n Dips, you were writing software.
I just had to upgrade my 310W PSU because it wasn't enough to power my average system. My second SATA HD would spin down and up once in a while for no apparent reason and when I only connected 1 drive, no problems.
Asus MB with nForce Chipset
AMD64 3000
Nvidia 6200 Video
2 X SATA 200G HD
1G of DDR400
NEC DVD Burner
TDK CD Burner
1.44 Floppy
Onboard NIC and Sound
USB Mouse and Keyboard
USB Camera
USB MP3 Player
Serial connection to APC UPS
Serial connection to Palm IIIc cradle
I would say the minimum for this setup is 400W but I plan on eventually upgrading the RAM and maybe getting a Video capture card so to be safe, I just ordered a 500W PSU
Given Google don't make any money from Picasa, the Linux client is a loss-leader.
I could also say that Microsoft does not make any money with IE and that would be true in a shallow kind of way. The free stuff from large companies is not about making money directly. It's about the control that fosters their money making products and services. That's how Microsoft is doing it. Microsoft has control of the desktop and it is that control that enables them to make money with their software and services.
Don't kid yourself, Google has something to sell and that's ads. Google is becoming a very powerful marketing company because their software is able to learn our habits, our interests and our actvities. This information is extremely valuable to companies who want to sell products and services. Google collects this information with free software like Picasa, Gmail etc. Data is what Google sells so the more they collect and better the quality, the more money Google makes. Goolge is not in the buiness of selling software, they're in the business of selling data.

Not yet, but coming soon to a distribution near you. http://wiki.debian.org/DebTorrent
Do you have an nVidia adapter with TurboCache such as the 6200?

Same kind of activity happening in the FOSS world. Check out macslow the lowfat project.
See, I knew they should have written this thing in Ruby.
Actually, Firefox 3.0 could take advantage of your spiffy GPU because Gecko 1.9 will be drawing on Cairo or WP Cairo which will be accelerated by Glitz
I can't wait for NCQ support. Hopefully 2.6.17.

Doesn't Microsoft support Windows, Red Hat support Red Hat Linux WS and Dell support hardware?

I care because it fosters competition and competition is good.
How high is the bridge?
Multiple simultaneous requests can't be done easily with iframes unless you have many of them hidden but even then, it would be an ugly hack.
