Because they are effectively customers of open source solutions saying that they could be legally responsible. All the bewan counters will ask, is could this have been avoided using MS?

Are there any licensing issues with Microsoft backing up software that is non-Microsoft and keeping it to be restored for use at a later time? They specifically mentioned DB2 but also said "any" software even third party.
If that came out somehow because someone screamed it out, that person could be held in contempt and the laywer for the burgle-person would ask for a mistrial.
I think paying the purchase price they did gives them that right should they choose to do so

Roxio acquires Pressplay as the foundation for the re-launch of Napster®
The Global Leader in CD and DVD Recording Software Adds Premier Legal Online Music Service to its Digital Media Assets
Universal Music and Sony Music Entertainment now Minority Stockholders in Roxio
SANTA CLARA, CA, May 19, 2003 - Roxio (NASDAQ:ROXI), The Digital Media Company®, provider of the best selling digital media software in the world, today announced that it acquired Pressplay, the nation's premier online music service. As a result of this transaction, Roxio has acquired a legal digital music distribution infrastructure and catalog rights with all five major music labels. Pressplay will serve as the foundation for the launch of Roxio's new legal on line music service under the Napster brand.
"Roxio's acquisition of Pressplay significantly accelerates the development of our online music business which is central to the strategic development of our company," said Chris Gorog, Roxio's Chairman and CEO. "With our acquisition of Napster we obtained the most powerful brand in the online music space. Now, with our acquisition of Pressplay, we have the most complete and scaleable legal technology infrastructure to use as a platform to re-launch Napster. After taking the necessary time to add features, enhance functionality and improve usability we will launch a new service with an extremely compelling consumer experience that builds on the qualities of the Napster brand."
>>McGuire's unwillingness to reveal the extent >>of his back injuries from his last project
In the CJ version McGuire was throwing his back injuries out there as an excuse saying they had to work the scheduling around him because of it. In this one he tried to hide the extent of the injuries.
On one of those TV trash programs Celebrity Justice that aired yesterday (nothing on the site about it though...) they painted a slightly different story.
According to them originally Tobey McGuire was cast in the role of SpiderMan but was going to be dropped because he was making demands that related to scheduling trying to make them work around his schedule because of his back.
When he started making these demands producers said fine we have Jake Gyllenhaal in our back pocket so tell Tobey to take a hike. Tobey basically crawled back and is now SpiderMan but had to agree to certain things including signing an agreement that he would be financially penalized if he was unable to fill his role as SpiderMan and also had to undergo a medical exam.
>>not sure you can have an FTP that allows >>anonymous access and not call it public
If I leave my vehicle unlocked, with car running and keys plain view in ignition, with a little trail of breadcrumbs leading to my door my insurance company still covers me for theft, because if someone gets in and takes it, it is still theft.
Choosing to not lock my doors does not give anyone else the right to enter.
Is there just a possibility that they are reading too much in to this? When I was in school, I often wondered if shakespeare would have wanted students to analyze him or if he would have preferred we sit back and enjoy the plot for what it is.
On that note, maybe we should start putting files called "this_is_not_britney_spears_hit_me_baby_one_more_t ime.txt.mp3" files on public ftp servers..
That aside, is there any sort of legal problem with the RIAA randomly searching FTP sites and logging in to them searching through directories for files? Is this unauthorized access if there is an MOTD that states they are not allowed to access it?
They would only be liable if they willingly made false accusations, they would have no problem in this instance saying it was an accident since they have already provided an appology and admitted fault.
This project may not interest you, but as an XBox and original PSX console owner this is extremely cool for those times I want to play Twisted Metal 2 and my PSX is being flaky because the plastic piece containing the laser assembly has warped slightly giving me problems reading discs.
You are talking about a tool. All tools can be used for good or for bad. A hammer can be used to damage a car, or to fix a house.
er.. effectively threatening

Obligatory Response 1: How Long Have You Been Brainwashed..er.. Working For MS?
Obligatory Response 2: Something terribly terribly wrong like installing software or checking e-mail?

>>70 per cent of most websites goes unread.
That number must be larger, because I could only get through about 9% of the article before falling asleep.
>> people to sue spammers for $500 per unwanted email
:P
Does that mean if I get my Visa bill by e-mail I can sue?
do you know anyone who has "finished" Tetris? Yet it is still a game.
So instead of shipping, you need to fly back and forth from Thailand once per laptop? :)
yes because you won't lose any of that profit on shipping these machines, and customs! (unless they're built in the US?)
If that came out somehow because someone screamed it out, that person could be held in contempt and the laywer for the burgle-person would ask for a mistrial.
which is great except that the fact he was robbing your house is not admissible, if there was a jury, they would not be told of this.
I think paying the purchase price they did gives them that right should they choose to do so

I'll be choosing to fix my house with this tool.
