Plain and simple. If being blind doesn't impact your ability to reproduce, then you are still "fit" by the only meaning of the term in natural selection.
It does not matter if you have an IQ of 150+ or have 20/10 vision. In the end we are all less fit than Sultans with big harems and hundreds of children, or even many NBA players with dozens of children who have no talent beyond a good jump shot!
Can be pretty humbling. Which is good. Maybe us "intellectually fit" people need to reproduce more if we want our genes to pass on and eventually be a sign of fitness.
Another valid assumption is that someone else, father perhaps, is the primary bread winner for the family and making at least minimum wage working. The mother is a "stay at home" mom who watches the children. The small amount of money she makes is extra money, which if not minimum wage is better than nothing if she just watched the children, no small task in of itself.
I recently had a minor cavity "sandblasted" out and filled with no anathesia or shots.
Only took a brief moment and was quite painless. Sitting in the chair for 10 minutes prior listening to the machine run a pump to keep the pressure level was the worst part. It ran in cycles of air compressor running, then listening to air "leaking" out, then running again.
I think that could replace water torture if used for an extended period.
unless, of course, you are the sort who can burn almost anything (water?) when trying to cook a meal.:-)
If I didn't know better, I would think you had met my mother!
Dear old forgetful mom would often put water on to boil and completely forget about it. Later one of us children.. she had 8 *gasp* would find a "cherry red" pot on the stove and manage to toss it into the sink to cool off with a big cloud of steam. I imagine she still has that old warped pot as it was her favorite one. So yes in a way she could "burn water" with the best of them.
I am sure that their nutrition guide recommends only eat one or at most two Americans per month.... but that you can have as many of the lean Chinese peasants you want!
The question I have to ask is how you got away with that for 6 whole months?!!
When I met my wife to be, I was at my computer easily 14+ hrs a day. Now after 6 years of marriage, I can hardly get 14 worry free minutes! Worth the trade off to have a loving wife.

Made them so great that their customers never needed to buy another one. So they were forced out of business by companies who made cheap computers that break exactly 15 seconds after their warranty expires.
I know this from my scientific sample of one laptop I reinstalled. Older machine. Well put together and installed right off the CD with no extra drivers needed. Most impressive.
They are waiting on the November elections to see if they need to buy...err... support Democrats instead of Republicans if the majority changes after the election.
We could be flying around in jet cars and spending $1,000,000 for a fast food meal for all that the "GAP" means to people. The majority would be satisfied with simply clean water and enough food of any kind.
This technology used right could help, as could any tool use appropriately. Just giving them out does not do anything in and of itself. They have to be used and applied.
They do not need an electronic stock market to monitor market prices,etc. They need good roads to get what they produce to people who need it. They need to be able to sell what they produce and not compete with free handouts.
To be honest, the simplest way to help is to let about 2/3 of the population die and help the ones who are left. Cruel, but keeping millions of people on the brink of starvation with free handouts in horrible camps that promote disease only to have them finally starve when people once again lose interest is worse.
They do not need to live to western standards to be happy. They just need the basic necessities. As do we all. We are just way more used to getting most of what we want as well and confuse those wants with needs.
Is there a new t-shirt with all the various models of IPODS instead of brands of beer?
Fear... soon the metric will not be Olympic pools of beer drank by college students, but rather Gigabytes or Terabytes of data (music) purchased from ITUNES by college students!

Many big applications are not so tolerant of patches, hotfixes in general. If you are running an enterprise package that has to be available, a test server is very very necessary. Better to destroy the test server than the production machine with a non-removable hotfix.
Paladin are interesting because they are often "required" to take on the unwanted quest.
Paladin are not completely stupid. They do not want to single handedly take on the super powerful vampire lord. However they cannot simply walk away from evil and just ignore it without personal consequence. Maybe their guilt will cause them to come back when they are better prepared to face the evil. Maybe they will fall from grace if they never come back.
As to power players all wanting to play paladin characters... maybe they would prefer more freedom of choice in what they "have" to do to be happy with theirselves.
Calculus is okay, but set thoery and basic logic is the math that CS majors should be required to master in college. Dealing with databases and groups of employees with similar and different permission schemes will require some understanding of sets. Nothing like a good ole Venn diagram to help put things into perspective.
