  1. The difference is density. Children who cannot be vaccinated represent a small enough density of any local population to not seriously impact herd immunity. Non vaxing communities do not, as we are learning.

    Actually, the house did pass a budget, as soon as the new congress started. It was the same budget the senate passed a few weeks ago. Right now Mitch McConnell refuses to bring it up for a vote because the president is wonâ(TM)t sign it.

    Does this mean closing all the smithsonian museums and the national zoo? And stopping process tax returns? And stop airport security? And food inspections? The stuff that still going is being done by people who are not getting paid. Perhaps you would like them to keep working for free indefinitely?

    But why now? He had two years with a republican congress, why didnâ(TM)t he build the wall then? He had the entire time leading up to the senates passage of legislation to push for or stand up for the wall. The reason we are shut down is he changed his mind at the last minute. He could have negotiated for his wall without causing all this damage.

    It is not an unusual arrangement, I know a small business owner who leases his own space to himself. What doesnâ(TM)t make sense is why anyone would agree to invest in WeWork with this sort of arrangement.

    No doubt she lost because she didnâ(TM)t run a good campaign. Whether the Russia campaign actually affected the outcome is up for debate; what should concern us is how big an effort it was and how a big part of the US population is actively denying it existed.

    Iâ(TM)ll be interested to see which way my taxes go. The loss of SALT will definitely hurt (ironically, I can no longer deduct the out of state property tax I pay in Maine, thanks Susan Collins!). But the lower brackets may compensate for that.

    Tea you have to measure locally gravity to calibrate the kibble balance. Apparently that can be done to better than 1e-8 accuracy by measuring the acceleration of a free falling body.

    It is not the same thing. The kibble balance can be built to the required accuracy from scratch without using some artifact as a reference. It is not an artifact itself. Itâ(TM)s calibrated against physical phenomena.

  24. Hate speech is not simply stuff you disagree with. It carries an implied or explicit threat. And yes there are gray areas, but that does not mean it is not a real thing. And threats are not protected speech under the US law. I do not like people putting burning crosses on peoples lawns. I do not like people who advocate for huge government debts. But clearly only one of these things is hate speech.
