    - The page is a gif (fair enough)

    - The actual page gif is a css background image
    - Whatever other javascript (i didnt check) doesnt matter
    - Its easy to bypass, nothing to see here, move along

  2. open letter to google on Google Launches SMS Search Service · · Score: 1

google pleeeeeease launch an actual sms sending service! most services out there are absolutely crap, o2's paid service for example (consider that they are a pretty large phone company) is so shockingly bad that i just smashed my house phone to bits in absolute rage after trying to use it - its almost like they designed it just to piss people off! Tiscali has a free service but they can't even manage the most basic interface design. Others are so bloated and adverty that it takes several minutes to send a message that would have taken several seconds on an instant messenger. Google could wipe the market clean all around the world. Text messaging is a really pathetically crap restricted format but sometimes you have to use it and have no choice, google please make my life easier, i'll pay you.

You gotta get out of that cycle where you're always looking for your next fix, it helps to break CD's in half and delete things (delete and over-write, recovery tools will be the first thing your doped up brain will try). Instead try getting addicted to things like learning flash and c#, as much as we hate it, they're fun to play with and you might be able to get a job whoring yourself out for dot NET services.

Reminds me of the worst film ever made - Atomic Train, or the stupid Delorians that you could lock yourself in, im just glad the people who design planes understand this, because car manufacturers certainly don't. Also car interfaces have to be one of the worst in the world, clutches are a stupid awkward in-efficient system (grinding plates together might be what you'd expect 100 years ago but come on this is 2004!), controlling low speeds is just not good enough (we have the fucking shift key to let you finely adjust controls in some programs, where is it in cars?).

  9. Extend and embrace indeed. on Redmondmag on Dumping IE · · Score: 1

Wernt they supposed to separate it as part of a court decision? I think its about time you guys got some of your freedom back, baring arms style.

  11. We want new newton! on The Newton O.S. Creeps Toward New Hardware · · Score: 1

Shall we have a poll?

Personally I don't know what Microsofts beef with DRM is - as we know they are about making money, which would lead me to think that they plan to knock out some basic DRM and sell licenses for billions, im absolutely fine with that, just as long as they don't try too hard to ruin the computing industry for F/OSS and everyone else. Video players arn't really the way forward - PDA's with hard-drives and decent battaries are the way forward, I reckon Apple could win here, they've got the experience with the Newton and an OS that normal people and geeks alike will love and you just know its going to look fucking hot! Microsoft are just crapping their pants because they know everyone and their dog wants an iPod, they can't compete with fashion.

even if the figure was more like 90%, who cares? it doesn't change the fact that forcing Windows to be bundled and not giving the customer or the seller the choice is anti-competitive and monopolistic. Microsoft simply has to deal with software piracy like _every_ other commercial software company. Why should they get special treatment? If they didn't have this monopoly in the first place they might not have reached the same position. It just doesn't work when corporations are allowed to abuse market power and use bully tactics, that's not what capitalism is about. I think..

  18. ROFL!! on Internet Censorship in Australia? · · Score: 1

Let me just clarify their logic:

    - 93% of parents support automatic filtering of net access.

    - Uptake of ISP parental control features has been low.

Solution: Because people want censorship but can't be assed to pick up the phone and ask their ISP to enable it on their account, the entire country must be censored and everyone must pay a fee.

    Lets see..

    - 93% of people aged 18 - 25 would like to have pizza delivered on a thursday night.

    - The uptake of pizza delivery on a thursday night has been low.

    Solution:
Because people can't be assed to order the pizza, everyone will have mandatory pizza on thursday nights (you don't have to eat it but all other restaurants and supermarkets will be closed) and everyone will pay for it.

  19. Give me my cheap mobile net damnit! on Germans Reach 360 Mbps in Mobile Network Tests · · Score: 1

Mobile net is all very good, but will this actually be affordable by the average person? Most households are fine with paying a monthly fee in the region of around 10 - 25 quid for either unlimited adsl or old dial-up but mobile phone companies seem to think that they have to rip us off or else they don't get to eat! GPRS is still charged in cave-man prices, If anyone is prepaired to offer a proper mobile internet service, flat-rate at the same monthly fee as adsl then i reckon most people would drop their home connections and switch to this - even if it was only 256k/s!

  20. Idiots a threat to human rights? on Flash Mobs a Threat to Security? · · Score: 1

I think with the RNC-NY disaster is obvious that most Americans have forgotten about their right to protest. Protesters we arrested even when not blocking traffic or pedestrians and even when they did what they were told and followed the police! The attitude was that they 'shouldn't have been protesting if they didn't want to get arrested' and that they would be 'kept until it was over so they couldn't make any more trouble'!

The whole Prince William thing is surely bullshit, if i was a teenage girl and I saw him, why the fuck would I want 200 bitchy girls getting in my way? and as for celebrities - pop stars etc. they live for attention, you don't think they have a 1,000,000 record sales deal for the 'art' do you? As for getting people out of office, if they deserve protests then you have every right to protest, there's no debate on this issue. ok so there's people on trial, and yes sometimes idiots decide that if you're on trial it means you're guilty so they want to go and kill you, it could be a problem, especially with the growing number of total fucking shit-for-brain people who confuse 'paediatricians' with 'paedophiles' and go smash up their homes.

"The (British) police are cracking down on activists who come equipped with mobiles - and are apparently empowered to do so" I haven't heard of that and I've been to a few, it kinda makes us sound like the ultimate big-brother but generally the police are ok, i even burnt the flag - no problem (ok so it was the US flag but hey) The anti-terrorism laws are just like Americas - they give the police power to do just about anything and really, if they did want to stop phones they could _easily_ demand the local cell towers are turned off or set to emergency calls only, that goes for any country and you can pretty much expect the government to have an agreement to be able to do that anywhere at any time.

Generally mobiles are going to make it easier for police if they have access to the phone companies. While i would totally not tolerate letting them have access to the locations of specific people, it might (with careful thought) be ok for them to know how many phones are logged into a certain cell purely for safety, as long as everyone remembers that a: the police work for you, not the other way around, b: you have the right to protest, and c: crowds can be dangerous, sometimes erupt into violence and may be a terrorist target so its in everyone's interests to just be careful and sensible and leave lots of space and exits and cooperate with each other etc. Generally i think the sort of people that flash-mob or protest are sensible people that actually think and care about things so its not like they are going to go toss Bush's limo over, drag him out and beat him to the ground while security try to shoot them off one by one with pistols.
