  1. Consumer rights on Hack This, Please · · Score: 3, Interesting

Shouldnt we have laws protecting people who want to modify something they own? Aslong as theres no danger to other people (eg screwing up your cars breaking system), you should be allowed to do what ever the hell you want with your property. Insead we get laws like the DMCA which companies now use on a daily basis to sue people for pretty much anything from making an adaptor cable to spray painting their PS2 silver. I think the mandate should be: "sell us what we want, or we will go and buy it from china"

  2. Crack smoking, simple solutions on AOL Blocking Spammers' Web Sites · · Score: 1

Thats stupid, you cant just go around blocking your customers from sites for their own good! at the very least give a customer the option to turn off blocking for their account if they ask, but put it on by default. The entire point of the internet is lost if you block anything - unless you're specifically blocking something for a technical reason. IMHO any ISP that doesnt allow blocking disabled on a specific account is probably just being very very lazy and not giving you your moneys worth,

Could you not just encode the audio signal of swearing so that to a normal tv it sounds like a beep, but to a tv fitted with a decoder it gets the sound. A first guess would be some sort of modulation where the beep is the carrier (dont forget its just a second of audio so quality isnt such an issue) or even better would be some sort of digital encoding, the technology is there and if a standard was decided you could make everyone happy, or just do what we do in the uk - wait until 9pm and say whatever the fucking hell you like bitch.

The Computer-Assisted Politician Prescreening System, or CAPPS II, would rank all candidates according to the likelihood of their being corrupt. Suspected corporate cheats and self-centered assholes would be designated as pig-fuckers and forbidden to vote or run for election. Candidates who have questionable stock or campaign contributions would be classified as yellow and would receive extra security screening. The vast majority would be designated 'friends of Diebold' and allowed through routine screening. But some say the project would violate the corrupt and idiotic way of politics, while others are concerned it would just be another corrupt entity. The Supreme Court, has come up with seven billion dollars that it says will go to the best bid, and as always, companies who would like to bid to build and run the system may have any political or corporate affiliations they want.

Why do you think he created that colour coded alert system? why is every news channel mentioning terrorism every hour of the day? Bush is out to do whatever it is he is trying to do for himself, im just not sure if thats world domination, money, or just pleasing his chums.

A site calling itself "Toms Hardware Guide" is claiming that Michael's Computers is a scam. We have recieved numerous emails regarding this, so we decided to investigate. We attempted to contact this so called "Guide" however they returned all our calls and promptly emailed us back with answers to our questions. We then asked them to disproove the performance claim and they responded:

"We would be happy to, please send us a review model"

With people like that you just cant win, so we looked a little closer at their so called claims:

"There is no AMD FX-51 3400+
Currently, there are no 500GB internal desktop hard drives. The only 500 GB drives are external firewire/USB2.0 drives, such as the ones made by LaCie."

There are two glaring mistakes here.

There are many 500Gb drives on the market and the AMD FX-51 3400+ is a special overclocked chip. When powering up the computer, which contains no fans, no noise is made and the machine boots up within 8 seconds. And by booting we are of course referring to the commanly used term for smoking.

This is absolute bullshit theres no way they can make us believe people actually like this crap! 'less intrusive?' give me a fucking break i had 3 Intel adverts playing simultainiously just because i multi-tab browse, they make sure your client has downloaded the whole thing so that pretty much kicks off anyone with a poor connection. Whos been smoking the crack pipe and who has been bloody pulling the wool over like spin doctor?? The simple and undisputable fact is that if the ad-server checks that your computer downloads every byte then traditional pop-up etc ads are much better because of the lower file size: you can disable any advert with relative ease and any browser that isnt produced by some sell-out corporation will have decent ad-busting built in and aslong as you have actually downloaded it theres nothing they can do - do the people who were surveyed even realise they could turn traditional adverts off?

I have a feeling the average computer user who doesnt know any better has been blaitently lied to, if they realised that the tools to stop annoying web practices were well within their reach they would bloody well demand that they were treated with respect.
