April 1st is definitely an awful day on/. each year. It's a reverse Christmas of sorts. It's like watching the worst comedian in the world cracking horrifically lame jokes for 24-hours straight.
Bill Gates Announces That He's a Butthole [snicker]
It seems to go longer than 24 hours. You just can't tell sometimes. They seem to start and end whenever anyone in the world is the 1st April, submissions following the date line.
For us closer to tomorrow (Australia & NZ) than most of you, we'll still be putting up with April fools stories long into the 2nd.
Personally, I very, very rarely have trouble sleeping. I usually find myself getting too tired for interactive entertainment about an hour before I want to sleep. I'd *love* to be able to continue playing video games up until lights out, but I just don't have the energy. Those who have lots of energy will keep playing/blogging/hacking.
Based on your/. ID, I reckon most of your inability to continue playing and low energy levels might be age related.
Yeah he does seem a little young to be up late at night, though at least he's not still in primary school..
Integration, when I update a contact that is attached to my gmail account, the account gets updated on the phone and in gmail (not so with iPhone) and when I change info on a Facebook contact the facebook data for that contact gets updated (iPhone, Google: "face book contact? Huh?").
In the facebook app for an iPhone you can tell it to sync infomation with your contacts, it does at least picture, phone numbers and birthdays (I've never checked other information). You can tell it to keep them synced automagically or disable the sync and do the update once.
There's even a website that will copy facebook events into Outlook and you can then sync that with your iPhone though I would prefer it if the facebook app could do that too.
Though I would also like Gmail and iPhone contacts to get along nicely as well.
...upon their arrival into its atmosphere, through the use of low-flying shuttles, open bay doors and copious amounts of beer, the crewmembers embarked on their ultimate goal for the planet: spreading life.
And their settlement was wiped out when the B-Ark crashed into the planet and ruined it for everyone.
And twenty years from now everyone in Africa will speak with a Stephen Hawking accent---
With all the text-to-speech improvements that have been made over the years, how come Stephen's machine has never been done? Either it's a really niche market, or maybe he likes the uniqueness. I can imagine him with a computer voice like IBM's Watson was using.
SyFy (*puke*) is a whole different channel. The Science Channel is part of the Discovery channel ecosystem (not perfect, I know, but still better than SyFy...)
Is the old name of the SciFi Channel still being used? Perhaps Discovery could create a new Science Fiction only channel and call it that.
I am sure using "BCC:" instead of "BCC" would have caused my brain to work correctly. My brain isn't used to see BCC. It just looks strange to me without the ":"
I can't remember seeing it written in all uppercase before. Even gmail and Fastmail.fm both use 'Bcc:' My first thought was Brisbane City Council, then Birch Carol Coyle Cinemas, then realised it must be Blind carbon copy.
considering what they're getting from 30 seconds of exposure on the most watched event on television, that $100million is a fantastic investment for the company.
I'm in Australia and didn't watch the Super Bowl as it means nothing to most people outside the USA (not even sure it was shown here), though I would watch a moon landing.
The scheme is workable, I think, but I think it's worth noting that no matter how it's implemented, there will be a number of people with access to that key ("access" not being the same thing as copying a zillion records for fun and profit). Because otherwise, the doctors treating a patient might not have access to the key.
Just be like many other databases in the US and use their Social Security number:-)
There was a.exe - I can't remember what that rebooted a Windows box with no warning. We were trying to educate people about not clicking attachments blindly (this was around the Melissa/Iloveyou time), so I renamed it to do-not-run-this.exe or something equally similar, attached it to an email, wrote in the email NOT to run it, and sent it to the company (about 70 people).
I did a similar thing a few years ago, though the program did nothing at all other than add their name to a text file that I then sent to the directors (they had asked me to see how many people would do this) - I even left one of the directors names in there as well, and he knew it was going to happen.
When I did my CompSci degree last century we did this.
Groups of 4 students, design screens and inputs for a business application in COBOL. After designed, swap with another group and begin implementing to their design specs. After a few weeks work, we had to swap with another group and take over (and finish) a half completed project.
At the end of the subject we had to write about our code, experiences taking over another group's work, and the group dynamics.
It was daunting, but I well remember the lessons gained - of need for good design specs & useful comments.
When China buys the US in a few years (or bails them out of the next financial crisis), patents and copyright will probably be one of the first things lost. You'll probably loose your guns about then too.

Can slashdot ban tinyUrl style shortened urls please?
You mean the tiny url that expanded to http://gw001.dyndns-blog.com/
Would that have helped?
That site then does the redirection.

maybe it bombed because the fans all downloaded it and hence didn't go to the cinema?
just sayin' :)
I watched it twice at the cinema, and have since brought the DVD's of the movie and the series.
Most people I know who liked the series have also brought them both.
why did mentos spring immediately to mind?
Pumice is really good for that effect as well as it also has lots of nucleation sites.

You have to admit that a sea-skipping missile would be hard to hit, though. Of course, it might also be a bit inaccurate...
Been done before, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouncing_bomb

Sadly our Minister for Privacy and Freedom of Information (Brendan O'Connor) doesn't understand the fundamentals of Information Security.
Since when has any of our Aussie politicians know anything about what their portfolio covers...
While not a scientist, Barry Jones is probably about as good as we're even going to get.

i'm sure sending a bunch of violent, possibly psychopatic murderers, is a great idea...
We're all descended from the B Ark survivors anyway.
But performance in browsers isn't just about Javascript!
Whichever browser can run Farmville/Fronterville/Mafiawars (all facebook apps) the best will win over most people.
I have a modern-ish machine that runs Lord of the Ring Online quite well, but crawls when I looked up those apps.

They are welcome to my epilepsy medication but I don't think they will enjoy not being able to stand up for the next twelve hours.
Likewise with the eyedrops that I have to deal with my cataracts then they won't be going outside (or looking at any bright things) either.
Doubtful. Carnivorous animals tend to taste awful.
Many of the fish species that we eat are carnivores though
The first thing I notice is the binary string is a palindrome, the same forwards or backwards...
Not trolling, but does it have to be binary?
I see that the string only contains 0 and 1's - this itself does not imply that it is binary.
It could be base 3 and just contain no 2's.
Just find where the MiB storage is - 'the galaxy is in Orion's belt' - not really a simulation though but an actual galaxy.
Don't bother going with congress doing this.

I can see the new movie drama scenes now:
"Help! The plane is out of control! Is there a network engineer on board?!?"
Just as possible: The bomb is set to explode once the airspeed drops below 300mph
I think your IP should be banned.
So....slashdot should have a police button?
Maybe not slashdot, but 4chan should have a police button :-)
While were adding buttons to facebook - where's my dislike button (that some people are actually asking for)
