It's funny that many articles concerning digital identification always mention September 11th but no one takes the moment to link digital id's and September 11th.
How convenient that a terrorist attacked happened and not several months later, we already have microchips ready to be implanted. Who is the company behind the chips... really? Who is behind the terrorist attacks... really?
People, especially Christians read the Left Behind (http://www.leftbehind.com/) and let they are willing to do whatever it takes to prevent these sort of "terrorist" attacks again.
People, especially those who call themselves enlightened, totally get what "The Matrix" was all about but fail to emphasize the most important line in the movie from the character, Morpheus: not everyone wants to be awakened.
This is not really not what the article was about but I will share my story.
My wife and I were on the apartment hunt and the only thing that I absolutely required was DSL. Every apartment that I went to said that, "I don't know... not a techie... not sure". That was not good enough.
Found an apartment building that was completely brand-new and in-between Dallas and Fort Worth. When asked about DSL, I got "Yes".
That is all I want. A definite answer. I cannot begin to imagine if I moved somewhere and I then could not get broadband.
The problem is not getting service but rather is the apartment managers up to snuff on what services are offered on the complex.

I had to go through the exact same runaround to try to get on from 3pm to 7pm on Tuesday.
To best explain what I feel about EQ:SoL, I repost part of my statement from Everlore.com:
"Before Shadows, I felt okay about EQ (even as the leader of Solace de L'esprit http://www.eqsolace.com/ on Luclin). I felt EQ was a prelude to Neverwinter Nights (much like all movies this year are just a prelude to LotR, but I digress).
They talked all summer about the cat people, the classes, the horses... yah yah yah. Whatever, don't care. I actually did not plan to purchase SoL until the screenshots of the models started rolling in. The naked gnome looked promising but I was dying to see what a Half Elf Female would look like (which they did not release). The more and more screenshots they released, the models were so great looking, I thought they were tricked up 2D pictures.
Now I was hyped. I wanted the new graphics so bad I could taste it. Tuesday night around 8pm CST, I had to scramble to pick up my jaw off the floor. My Half Elf Ranger in basic Banded Mail look fscking hot! I was so damn sexy and cute that no one could talk to me.
I did not do the standard "make a kitty and lagged down Luclin" because I did not care. None of the other features compared to the beauty of the updated models.
Sure, there wasn't much difference in the outdoor environement, I won't own a horse anytime soon and I got time to level a kitty but since SoL, I play in 3rd person view and I would go to no windows if I did not have to watch for text (and health, mana, etc).
For me and my money, I would have paid $30 for my armour not to look like poo brown. The designers and developers outdid themselves by a long shot.
If you have to wh0|23 yourselves to the men and women of your town to save enough money to upgrade your OS (why in the world are you running Windows95 is beyond me) and/or hardware, DO IT!"
Actually I am a cheapskate and was hoping that the release of XBox and GameCube would force the prices lower (so much for that) but if the this PS2 sells for less than $500, this baby will be mine.
One, I was not aware that the industry was short of web developers.
Two, why do we assume that these kids want to become web developers in the first place? Is the only reason why we want them to get decent paying jobs because the fact of the matter is that everyone but white people actually takes their paychecks and circulate that money back into the economy?
Three, whoever said this was a good idea obviously lives in fscking cave. This is far from the solution to a problem you are not even aware of.
BTW, I am from the poor side of town, I did not go to college and now, I am a killer SysAdmin. Sucks having to go to college, doesn't it?
... until a friend of mine is collecting the episodes on DVD. Combine that with Farscape replaying the entire series since episode 1 and it gave me a chance to watch it.
Not only does Farscape prevents me from watch sci-fi crap such as Lexx and the entire Star Trek franchise, but my tolerance for crappy shows in general is lessen.
Farscape is beyond just a great sci-fi show, it is a great show. I do not spend a lot of time watching tv but I will stop down for three things:
1. Hockey and NHL2Night
2. The Sopranos (and half the HBO lineup include Sex & The City, 6 Feet Under and Band of Brothers).
3. Farscape
Farscape is so greatness in fact my wife likes it. That would not be so impressive however she hates sci-fi so much that she will go out of her way to tease me about it. But she loves Farscape!
I knew that XM Radio is no better than the music channels on Digital Cable and DirecTV. Sure, they will have commericial free, coast-to-coast broadcast but will they have top choice selection.
While I may not share the expertise that you do when it comes to Metal but my feeling are mutual when it comes to broadcasting Hip-Hop (or what white people like to call it "Rap"). Oh joy, I get to let some nobody program Hip-Hop selections such as Enimem, Limp Biskit, Nelly and _______ (fill in some other pop group out there).
Play a selection such as anything from Nas' "Illmatic", Wu-Tang Clan's "Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers" or even The Roots (pick an album) and I will be throughly impressed.
I refuse to be loyal to any company especially as a tech worker.
Gone are the days of company taking care of you (so 50's and 60's). Nowadays, you take care of yourself and look out for number one.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be loyal for the people I work with but I cannot. Because as soon as I do, my ass is on the street with my wife and son depending on me to bring home the bacon.
I totally agree with one point: it should be fucking federal law for companies to inform workers 6 months in advance before laying off. I have never experience such an ordeal (I work for small companies) but I have had dozens of friends that contemplated bankruptcy.
My brow is all scrunched trying to figure out why is this on/. My boss (without my consent or approval) bought a HP Jornada. With Windows2000 and Windows98 (fresh installs), he consistently has numerous sync problems and os problems with the unit. Needless to say, it sits on his desk, inside the sync cradle.
Please. I will keep my Visor Platinum and PalmOS... thank you very much.
One, you will have to pay for MacOS X to run on (for the time being) Apple hardware. I, for one, cannot wait for the PC port.
Beyond all of that, MacOS X's ease of use does not scare me as much as WindowsNT (wannabe Network Admin's who run server os's because it looks like Windows9x). The fact that X is UNIX and that all the Mac geeks that I know run and love X (and love the power of the command line) makes me all giddy inside. No, I am not a Mac lover but I have been working with Macs since version 7.
I never asked for a everybuddy client on windoze because Linux is a superior workstation OS.
But when I am gaming on my 9x machine, it would be nice to chit chat with the rest of my homies on Yahoo!, ICQ and AIM.
I was happy to see that people took Everybuddy (the most superior chat client) and port it over to Windows but sad to see that DSF did not open the source.
With this news of DSF getting their heads out of their asses, all is right.
You choose to work for a corporation. You do not have the right to question any decisions that the corporation makes.
Is the decision that they are making is illogical? Of course, they are idiots.
The reason why they will dismiss you if you do not take the promotion is that it will look bad to their superiors (i.e. bad marks on their 6 month review). These managers are trying to save their sorry asses.
I am not a recent convert but if I were to pick a source or a book that put me "over the top", is the book, "Linux Administration: A Beginner's Guide".
Like you (back with Linux 2.0.x), the only thing I was frustrated with Linux is not knowing how to install programs.
That book has an entire chapter dedicated to installing programs.
Once you get into tar -xzvpf program.of.choice-1.00.00.tar.gz;./configure;make; make install all of your programs, you will then realize that the way Windows installs programs is so archaic (yes, Sun Microsystems, this includes you as well re: StarOffice).
It is actually the way you install programs is part of the reason that Linux is superior to Windows. As a SysAdmin, it is hard as hell to push installs to Windows machine. With Linux workstation, I can easily telnet/ssh into the workstation, install, setup icons and defaults and exit: all without the user having to do shit and without having the user to reboot.
Can anybody name me 5 Windows programs that do not require you to reboot? Didn't think so.
... responses want to do a lot with one box. I also see that same behavior with a lot of "sysadmins" running web/mail/dns/db/etc.. all on the same box.
Just an observation.
I know that we are not made of money. But if you have money to blow, I would get two separate systems. Crank out 2D performance with a Matrox card on your Linux system and reserve this for work. Dork out a W2K/98 system to play games and run the biggest and baddest 3D card out there because you know that Windows will support it.
I run Linux as my workstation because I am ten times more productive with Linux than I am with Windows; (I actually know Windows a lot better and I could only dream to be a called a Unix geek but I digress).
When I get home, I do not work. My home rig is there to check e-mail, play mp3's and of course, play games. Linux is great for all and everything else but Windows is champs for gaming (only... nothing else). (Please do not respond with Quake III on Linux because we all know that UT is the best FPS game out there).
But if I had to settle on a card, Matrox G4xx. Dual head, superb 2D performance and good (not superb) 3D performance.
I cannot believe that that my so-called "peers" get a wild hair up their ass because someone scanned their network.
I definitely do not want to assume but every "admin" that I have talk to that think that port scanning should be illegal does not have the slightest clue on hardening networks and servers.
I have also notice that these same admins are NT admins. Coincidence?
Of course, cutting edge technologies (re: Video Cards) are not going to work under Linux especially if hardware vendors are not writing out the Linux drivers right out the gate.
I have setup a zillion Linux servers/workstations for every type of hardware ranging from a 386 to a quad Intel Pentium III Xeon with very little trouble (CD-R drives, certain funky NIC's I have never heard of before, etc.)
The only thing I can recommend to my friends when buying equipment for Linux workstations/servers is don't buy the latest video card, get a nic you know and love, a real modem will be nice (not win- ), basic sound card and everything is great.

... but do you know what makes third-world countries third-world? (I am not making a generalization about the entire continent.)
It is not that the people are uneduacated, lazy or religious fanatics. It is simply that their leaders draw out huge loans from Europe and US banks for their election, coup, new mansion or whatever selfish reason. Then these leaders turn around and put that burden on the people.
I remember a discussion at a local college about this very same subject. The best way to lift certain countries out of (impossible) debt is to erase the interest and quite possibly, the principle.
