Extreme tides like that may well have helped spur the evolution of life. Proto-microbes washed onto shore and other materials washed back in. Think of it as a big huge mixing bowl.
Some of those microbes may just have gotten stranded. Most probably died. A few probably adapted, living in shallow pools or clinging to rocks.
I can see politics entering a free for all site like Slashdot, but Sourceforge??? While I personally think it's disgusting that China even GOT the Olympics and find their regime and it's actions reprehensible, there are proper forums for such matters. Sourceforge isn't one of them.
Yeah, I almost choked when I saw that. Even coming from Taco it was amazing. There are SO many enterprise applications using Java that none of us would be able to count them all. Is it the be all and end all of languages? Hardly. Is it important? Far more than Slashdot, that's for sure. The only business that would go under if Slashdot stopped working would be Slashdot. If Java magically vanished, a whole lot of companies would be in a world of hurt.
Methinks Taco's head has finally swollen to a size where he won't be able to crawl out of the basement even if he were to want to.
Makes as much sense as the fact that most who are pro abortion are also anti death penalty. So, it's ok to kill the innocent but not the guilty...interesting logic.
You really have got to stop injecting facts in these discussions; the masses get nervous.
Vista is not a resounding success yet but it's far from a failure. Several of my Fortune 500 clients are moving forward with their Vista implementation plans.
I've always boiled down that aspect of the 2nd Amendment as follows: it is the reboot button for our Government in the event of a catastrophic failure. Also note that those in the military swear to defend the Consitution, not the Government. In the unlikely event of a rightesous armed insurrection most of the servicemen (and women) I know would side with the populace. Let's hope it never comes to that though.
That was my first thought when I read it, "Hoax". They don't provide any corroborating evidence at all that it's even close to legit. The style isn't at all like Gates, and the ignorance of certain aspects of the system makes it look like he was totally out of touch with what was going on in his own company.
I wonder if Twitter wrote this? Seems like his style.
Regulated didn't mean what you think it means back then. It meant training, not goverment oversight. We'll see tomorrow when the Supreme Court strikes down the DC gun ban because the 2nd Amendment protects an individual right.
Look carefully at his voting record. The votes he voted present on were not cases where he didn't understand. It was political expediency. Again, I'm not excoriating him. Most politicans do the same thing. My point is that he is just like every other politician in that regard as well as many others. This whole messiah like atmosphere around him just creeps me out. He's not some great change maker. He is a politician, like any other.
That being said I've not decided how I'm going to vote, but it sure won't be decided for me by catchy slogans. I am looking carefully at policy before I decide. Now that we're finally getting drips of what his policies will be maybe I can make an informed decision.
Who said anything about White House staff??? I was talking about Federal Agencies like the EPA, etc. What the White House did here if true was deplorable. I was pointing out that they were avoiding a new rule from an agency that ostensibly works for the President.
They surely knew already what the email would contain. People talk to each other, the email was probably just the 'formal' notice of the change.
This also illustrates, for those who blame everything on any Administration, the Executive doesn't have absolute control over agencies that are ostensibly part of the Executive Branch. That goes for people who demonized Clinton and blamed him for each and every thing the bueraucracy did, and for those who blame every single such action on The Evil Bush.
Truth be told, the vast majority of the various Federal Agencies are made up of career bueraucrats who in many cases were appointed long the President is elected and will still be entrenched long after he's gone.
Yes I did read the short article and yes it was a press release. As I said, IF even HALF of what they claim is true then they seem to have a very good case.
Tort reform is another topic entirely and we might even agree on that.
If even half of their claims are founded in truth then this is a worthy lawsuit and Google acted in an 'evil' manner. I'll clue you in on something: not all lawsuits are bad. The mechanism exists for a reason.
Then again at least you admitted that you are totally uninformed on the subject since you didn't read the (short) article.
130 'Present' votes is a lot, regardless of the percentage. Some of those times he was following instructions from his Party, but others it was just politics as usual.
I didn't excoriate him for it, I just pointed it out. He is no different than any other politician.
It's always cool to see this kind of interview. It's even cooler when you can read it all on one page rather than 8.
I suggest that anyone who uses C++ or is interested in the history of programming read this. Some of it is a bit banal, like how they chose the name, but some of it is really intersting. RTFA for once, you lazy clods!
Skipping a vote to avoid controversy is worse than taking a stand, even the 'wrong' stand. It would be nothing but cowardice. If he really believes what he says he'll vote against it.
Then again he skipped a LOT of votes in Illinois as a State Senator, probably for similar political reasons.

Technically it's just ATM, because the M stands for Machine. If you're going to be pedantic then do it correctly.

Most people in industrialized nations has access to TV today
There, fixed it for you.
It might be hard to tell if the student in question outsourced all of his work for the term.

Yes but they would catch a lot of Pirates. Pirates are a noisy lot.

I'll probably vote for Kodos.

Or he can just buy the patch of some Nicorette gum. Problem solved.
I agree. I'm wondering why the 'humor' tag hasn't shown up yet on this one. It's pretty much drivel unless you take it as a joke.

Tourism to the US is up 15% for the first quarter of 2008 compared to the year prior, precisely because of the weak dollar.
Nice try though.
You don't have to spend a fortune on a Mac to dual boot between a *nix and Windows. Linux does the same just fine at a far lower cost.
Just don't tell my wife that story. She'd get mad.
