  1. Re:Title Changes on Cowboy Bebop Movie comes to the States · · Score: 3, Interesting
From what I understand the change was due to legal issues regarding the "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" subtitle. Aparently Bob Dylan didn't like one of his song names being used in an anime title. And of course he owns that phrase, so no one else may use it without his express written consent (implied oral consent isn't good enough).

Of course this is second hand info. Don't know if it's really true.

What I don't get are these tree-killer accountants who print out 3000+ page reports, put them in binders, and send them to offsite storage where they will remain for all eternity. Why can't those people use PDFs? It would save a few trees, not to mention all the squids who had to die for that toner ink.

Is it that Sony Net Walkman? Yuck. You have to encode everything as ATRAC3 and "check in, check out" using their crappy software. No thanks. In fact, I wont buy any Sony MP3 anything for fear that I would have to use some of their check in check out BS. That includes their DVD players, car CD/MP3 players, or whatever else. I advise others to do the same.

iPod and similar devices are really the only way to go. You mount the unit like a file system, and just drag the files over. No re-encoding, no checking the files out. No DRM. Just ease of use and great performance. Sony realizes this, but because of their music devison holding them back, they are stuck with the crappy DRM hassleware.

Also, my Pioneer car deck plays MP3s without any crap. Burn the files onto a regular ISO9660 disc, and you're done. No special software. No proprietary formats. No hassles. I know Sony makes decks that play MP3s, but because of all thier DRM pushing, I would be very skeptical about buying one.

In short, because of Sony Music pushing for DRM, I am probably not going to buy Sony audio electronics again. At one time they were the best, because of Sony Music being scared of their own customers and forcing this lockdown, I'm not even taking a chance with Sony stuff.

I hear about this crap on Tom Leykis all the time. You don't even have to be the father to owe child support. If the child has formed a "psycological bond", then you gotta pay. So if you are just dating a single mom, and then break up, you might end up paying for someone else's kid. Or if your wife was cheating on you and it turns out that someone else is the father of "your child", you still owe. Apparently, this is especially true in Washington state (the "single mom capital of the world").

Okay, how about this then? I collect vinyls, and also I like to listen to music in my car, but playing vinyls in my car is not possible. Howver, playing MP3s in the car is (thank you, Pioneer). Making an MP3 out of a vinyl is difficult, time consuming, and doesn't sound very good, so I will often go onto P2P networks to get the songs in MP3 format. I own a copy of the song on vinyl, so I'm not breaking the law by downloading songs I already have a license for. I would hate to have my ISP account terminated because somebody suspected me of breaking the law, even though I wasn't.

Even after you do connect to a server, search results are always minimal. I have a hard time finding anything on Edonkey, even "common" stuff. And with Edonkey's stupid hashing, if you only have part of a file, you have nothing. At least Kazaa and WinMX will let me view a partially downloaded file.

Back when Napster and OpenNap was big, I had great luck with that, and there are some good Linux clients for it. Also, I've had pretty good luck with Gnutella. Good results, easy to use if you have a good client, quick downloads. Still, nothing can compare to Kazaa. Simply put, Kazaa gets you more files, more quickly.

  11. Re:RTFA on EA As The Next Disney · · Score: 1

Arrr, but Disney has a 60 year head start. Also video games are still a relitively new and emerging technology. The total market penetration that games now have is very recent. Prior to the Playstation, kids were the only target demo for games (in the US anyway). In addition Disney aren't doing as well as they had in the recent past, while game sales are way up. So the tables could be turned sooner than one might think.

Hmmm. I have a Pioneer DEH-P7400MP (just got it). I've always been a fan of Pioneer decks, and the whole MP3 thing is great, but I have had a couple issues with it. When I put lots of MP3s on a disc (more than 100 I'd say), it takes a very long time to switch tracks, about 10 seconds. Also some MP3s simply will not play on one disc I burned (it does have 221 files in one folder. I'm not sure that was such a good idea. About 10 of the tracks wont play). I burned the disc at 40x so perhaps if I lower the speed and try again, that will help.

Are you having similar issues? Any tips?

Is that so surprising? The networks don't care about putting out quality shows. Nor do they care about the shows fans. They care about selling advertising. Shows are just filler for the ads. A show could be the highest art ever created, but if no one is watching it, then advertising revenues will be low and the show will be pulled. It's not to their benefit to wait and hope a show catches on. For them it is better to replace it quickly and hope whatever fills that time slot will get more people watching ads.

There are only 13 episodes of both those shows, and I've seen them all so many times that I have become sick of the shows. The episodes are 10 minutes long and use cheap animation tactics. You wouldn't think it would be too hard to produce some new episodes every now and then.
