And that goes the same for many of the news media outlets the bloggers get their info-rage from. Take a look at a NYT article from today and compare it to something 60 years ago...then compare it to the average blogger vent. Its the same for many newspapers as the editing team is handpicked by the owning group. The Austin American Statesman suffers from this as well as an inability to report without prejudice. The news is polarized these days and you have to really pick through it to get to the truth...its almost not worth the effort.
That, for some reason, keeps posting stories about Australia. Riiiight.
What, why shouldn't an American site post Australian topics...Australia is a great place and has good beer. Risk factor aside, gaining Australia is important in the quest for world domination as they have the only supply of Koalas which are crucial to the hearts & minds portion of the COIN strategy.
Webscription sells books from multiple publishers other than Baen. The $15 price is for the ARC editions of the book which are pre-print editions that get updates as the author writes/edits the work. When the work is finalized you can buy it for ~$6. The other catagory of $15 books are the serial compilations where they cut seven books into three parts and you get one part of each book per quarter. If you buy and end up not liking what you read you dont have to continue paying. So thats slightly more than 6 bucks for what usually amounts to a few new books and some old ones. All in all 90% of the books are priced at $6 or under. The collection of 7 books you refer to is the "Fafhrd and Grey Mouser Collection" by Fritz Leiber. I believe the rights were purchased after a member poll showed some interest and even without the bundle deal the individual books normal price are $8.99...a buck less than what Amazon would charge for the Kindle version if Amazon were to have it available for the Kindle or even for sale new.
...And you can get those on Amazon as well. I tried the book club route and it is exactly the same as the CD/Tape club so don't do that if you weren't happy with the CD club. My recomendation would be to hit Amazon and look at the Hugo Awards list or root around on one of Amazon's 4-for-3 or $.99 specials. Either will be the the same price, if not cheaper than a book club, and without the hassle of sending back crap that you didn't want in the first place. Amazon also has "wish lists" so if you're low on cash you need not buy right away. Not to mention stocking your wishlist tends to improve the recomendations from Amazon and I find that with enough data Amazon can get some excellent recomendations.
Others here mentioned talking to people at the library or looking at online forums for suggestions...Amazon has that too with their comments section on books as well as book lists. I may sound like a shill for Amazon [I do not work for/with them nor do I own stock in the company] but, I like their service and its a damn good company (service wise...we'll see how they are after TX and other states spank Amazon for tax evasion).
Totally! Hopefully this will lead to better searching and information sharing as right now looking up info on.gov sites is about as easy as finding a needle in a junk yard. It can be done but you're gonna pick up alot of trash with it if at all.
"Ha ha, at least you didn't ask me why I'm not supporting Hillary;) A lot of people seem compelled to ask me that when they learn that I'm from New York State."
Hmmm....interesting, I would think that a retorical question indeed. Lets hope Obama isn't the post turtle some seem to think he is as I don't see anyone else running that inspires me to vote.
I seem to remember the Folgers comercials with Anthony Head and the entire 30-60sec spot was a drama based around a cup of coffee. Every week or two you would get a new comercial which would diplay flogers but bring new action to the drama. It was well done and I still remember them due to the great setup. If the ad people could do something like that I'd support them.
Thanks for sharing! I had the opposite experience when moving from Utah to Texas and had to study hard to get up to speed. Its kind of odd when you look back in history and see that the USA public education system in the 40's & 50's was almost equivelent to a freshman level college education today. How did we slip so far in such a short time or do I have an overvalued opinion of the education system of old?
"[brunes69 (86786)] You can't do this with DVD, and for people who really love movies, it is spectacular. I know some people don't give a crap about this and just want to watch the film, but really, these kind of people don't buy ANY movies, they just rent them."
By this statement you are either a shill for the industry or are just making a grossly exaggerated generalization. I have ~400 titles in my collection and will not "upgrade" to the "new" format until one is decided upon. Hell, by the time that happens we may be getting movies on divx holo-chips (wishful thinking, I know). Just because you like some added extras with the primary content that you purchased doesn't mean that said additional content is worth forking out another ~$500 to see. We buy the movie to see the movie and anything extra is nice but, the really good extras are usually in a different version of the movie that the company wants you buy at a later date. So what are you really getting, the actors are still the same, as are the directors & writers, so you're not getting much for the added price. I'd even say that you are getting less because with the added resolution you can see every defect, which, detracts from the fantasy.
As for your statement of get off the fence & don't worry your format of choice will be supported I ask you to look back at the betmax/VHS/LaserDisk war and see who survived it. And what happened with HD-Digital tapes & mini-discs. DVD is the standard and will stay as such until there is a clear path to a new standard with the same price as the DVD version and that ain't going to happen soon.
Before Netgear bought them Infrant was the best NAS out there. Great price for what you got and some excelent support & firmware updates that truly enhanced the product. I was hoping Netgear would change their direction and move towards the Infrant product ideals but, it seems NG is no better than Microsoft in this regard and has chosen to buy & cursh the competition.
Its a nice idea but doomed...the geeks will be far to interested in rooting the girls box which leaves little if any time for a makeover. If, that is, the girls will get anywhere close to the geeks. Is anyone else here having flashbacks of "Revenge of the Nerds" on this one?
Sorry to burst your bubble but, the US has large Uranium deposits with quite a few inactive mines. We would have massive stockpiles of ore had not the nuclear scare of the 70+80's happend which forced Uranium prices into the gutter (forcing the closure of said mines, talk to Exon about this, they own a few). The ore is there we just need to get it out of the ground & refine it which is starting to happen again.
Make friends with someone who has access to a tire shredder. The shredder will make quick work of the drive and you can then burn the remains for added security or pass them directly to a local recycler (most cities frown upon throwing computer materials in the trash as they usually contain heavy metals). Another option would involve fun with thermite but, that may involve a bit more risk than you are willing to take.
IBM made some great machines and it seems that Lenovo has continued to support quality over looks. Unfortuneatly, Lenovo will have less oportunity than other brands due to the US govenrment outlawing them (the purchase that is) in Federal facilities.
I'd love to post on this but if I stated everything I knew I'd probably be fired.
What I will say is that (IMHO) I expect to see many reports of Fraud, Waste, & Abuse coming out of this as do I expect many researchers to leave because of their new corporate masters (IMHO) cannibalistic ways.
Ummm...not quite... Microsoft bought the computer games division of FASA & has all rights to produce computer games off of FASA titles (Battletech, Mechwarior, SR, etc) pre 2002. The RPG/settings are still owned by FASA which was sold to WizKids which was bought by Fan Pro or Fan Pro has exclusive rights to produce/distribute content.
Actually its not as expensive as you might think. Microsoft offers a software kit for system builders that includeds registered full versions of most of the microsoft products...all for $300 (usd) a year. The catch is that if you don't re-up your licenses are not renewed but, in my experience the cost bennifits of the package are so much better.

OMG!! Eddie Izzard was right...we are the "NEW" Roman Empire. I wonder if all of Bush's flunkies have to great him with a "hail Caesar". So we have gladiator duels and expansion wars to look forward to.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this whole "xxx" TLD issue started when a porn mogul requested a specific domain for all porn so that he and the rest of the industry could avoid legal issues?
I see nothing wrong with this so long as its not the "religious" right deciding the definition of porn.
I've spent close to $700 at Baens site because I get the book quickly and in an easily readable format. For those on move or in remote locations there is no better way to get your literary fix then by an e-book. They dont take up physical space so you can have as many as you want and they dont take a month to be delivered to your physical location. What is not to like!
I have bought one DRM book from Amazon and will never buy another...its just to much trouble to deal with and you can only get them in Adobe PDF because of the security restrictions. No thanks, I'll stick with Baen.
RM: Thanks for the info on Tor...now I have more options to support my addiction *grin*.

Could this be the furry - ultimate plan?
Wasn't this the plot COBRA used to create their base island in the gulf? Do we need to worry about Blackwater/Xe becoming more powerful?
