If its not to forward please give your wife a hug for me...she did a great job on Calley's War and I'd like to thank her for her work. Being on a job out of country, I won't be making any conventions anytime soon so a "thank you" by proxy is the best I can do at the moment.
    And thanks for posting BTW!

If I rememer correctly IBM was working on something to this effect a while back. It was more of a SAN platform than anything but, the concept was to have a snap together modular system so that to add another HD to the SAN all you had to do was plop in the brick and the array would take care of the rest. Since they were enclosed it was decided to go with a water cooling method so I don't know how they worked that one out. The info came from a Technology Review or Wired article.

People go to Dell for Microsoft solutions and thats what the sales people are told to sell. I have yet to see a job req for a Dell Major Accounts rep that requires unix certs...MCSE & CCIE are king.

Whats really interesting is that more people want to nail Kaylee rather than Inara. Is this the "geek" mentality overriding the physical beauty or is it that we love and adore the innocence that Kaylee represents. I for one wouldn't throw Inara aout of my bed but, I'd much rather have River or Kaylee on a long term basis. As a side note: My hats off to the man who married Jewel (the actress who plays Kaylee)...lucky SOB.

    From IT Managers Journal
"Efstathiou agreed that while most IT workers would not be eligible for OT under the new rules, employers are likely to make up for any potential losses in salary or higher hourly pay."

I don't know about the rest of you but, I've never worked for a corp that decided to raise my pay because I worked a lot of "unpaid" hours. Hell most corps think compensation is something they have to hide from the IRS or its something the employees must give for the privlage of working.

"Efstathiou said some workers, such as sysadmins providing 24/7 datacenter support, may be hurt by the new rules, but added the biggest impact may be for employers when economic conditions improve."
"The law itself will serve to accelerate and exacerbate turnover and will impact employers more than employees," Efstathiou predicted. "That costs a fortune."

How is it going to affect the employer when most techs are unable to leave their jobs because there aren't any jobs to go to. Oh, my bad, he said "In the future, when the economy is better". Sorry, before the bubble burst it was possible to jump jobs with a reasonable expectation that there was another job waiting. That is not common in the IT world today nor will it be again simply because of the amount of IT workers competing for that same job.

Dont worry though, the IT industry is making a comeback so you might not have to wait that long to find another job. When I went on tour I drove around the states eating cheap PB&J sandwitches and drinking as much as possible and yet, met some extrodinary people (I was sober alot of the time -- someone had to drive). If nothing it will give you a feel for the industry and a load of contacts.
