Thanks for stating it. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. Funny thing is that m$ office autocorrects the word by default so people may never learn.

  3. Do they need to? on ATI PCI-Express Devices Revealed · · Score: 0

Do the chipsets need to support AGP in order for AGP to be included on mobos? IN other words is it possible to include an onboard PCI_Ex device that handles the AGP card much like current mobos have onboard PCI devices for RAID, sound, ethernet, etc? If it is possible then AGP support will be left entirely up to motherboard manufacturers who, I'm sure, would include it to tout it as another feature.

For some strange reason this makes me think of MacDonald's from Coming to America.

Anyhow I don't really think these knockoffs are in any way a substitute for the original. I think of them more like a can of Coke you have at home and drink after eating takeout from McDonald's.

This isn't even an upgrade. Most AMD chips can do 200 FSB now, or 400 if you count like they do. They are just going to officially support the speeds that people have been getting for some time now. Its actually the chipset manufactureres that made it possible. Some people have been able to get T Birds to hit 200+ FSB on nForce 2 motherboards.

  7. how is bootlegging piracy? on Instant Concert CDs? · · Score: 0

A concert recording is not the same as a studio album. Many fans just want to hear different versions of their favorite bands. Some bands put up mp3's of their concerts on their own websites. Primus has been doing this for years.

I think it is a cool idea provided they don't try to rip off fans by charging 20 bucks per disc

And still I can see that MY GF4 card is struggling. If I turn on all the AA and crank the resolution to 1600*1200 the thing struggles.

Sure I can play games at moderate settings with no problem, but maximum settings, NO WAY!

  10. What a dumbass! on Unintended Aural Consequences of MP3 Compression · · Score: 0

I agree with the point that exposure to digital audio does not stimulate the brain as much as the real thing but the author's conjecture that this technology will lead to loss of aural acuity is assinine at best. People still talk to one another and have to hear a cacophony of analog sounds every day so there will be no loss of stimulation. As a species we developed this sense of hearing with far lessw available stimuli and it never went away.

Sure many theories are computationally guelling. So what? If they actually predict something that is measureable then they are good and computers can be programmed to calculate their effects to arbitrary acurracy. Pre Big Bang theories are just pure speculation especially since there is no definative theory for engergies attainable in this universe. We can only measure in the TeV and these clowns are working on a theory to deal with >10^20 GeV energies. Come on! This is speculative mathematics not physics.

  17. Algebra is Definately not being taught well! on Algebra As A Gateway Subject · · Score: 0

I taught freshmen engineers Calculus a few years back and these kids were so bad at algebra I almost wanted to cry. Some of them acted like they had never seen a fraction. Some kids seem to get the impression that math is too hard therefore they shouldn't bother. Teachers need to get the kids to understand that algebra may be difficult to get at first but it becomes second nature to those who practice alot. They should just drill the students day in and day out and threaten to fail them if they don't do their homework. This type of approach is taken in many asian schools and I can tell you one thing asian, as in from Asia, students are really good and quick with all of the basic and intermediate mathematics.

Heck even art students need to pass the algebra exam if they expect to get any type of college degree. I honestly think that many High School teachers don not demand enough of their students. As a result some universities see nearly a 40% dropout rate for freshmen.

After dealing with college freshman I really think that our public school system is in need of a serious overhaul. Setting standards higher then they are now is a good place to start.
