forget about quantum computer applications - what i want to know is how long will it be before we can catch daylight, in say a chamber on my roof, and re-emit in via lamp-like gizmos in my house at night. i *really* look forward to tossing all my incandescent and florescents out the window. that'll put the "happy light" people out of business. hey! flashlights without batteries or bulbs!
why can't he have a legal guardian perform the legal actions in his name? isn't that normal? i would think apple would do this unless they want a very ticked, intelligent group of minors seeking to rot them to the core.
ever since network solutions turned into verisign they've begun to suck like everyone else. i'm assuming these guys, just like every other registrar, is using 'whois' in order to get their information. interesting that they expect other people to abide by their own server's "information clause" and while disregard everyone else's:
By submitting a WHOIS query, you agree to use this Data only for lawful purposes and that under no circumstances will you use this Data to: (1) allow, enable, or otherwise support the transmission of mass unsolicited, commercial advertising or solicitations via e-mail, telephone, or facsimile;
i know people who work for alldomains and they say they use the same technique, knowledgably and with complete disregard for the law. i get a courtesy calls often concerning my domains from other registrars. can we crack down on these guys? or should we just find them and physically hurt them?
by the way, why is crsnic's whois server still screwed up? do a lookup on any major site with it, like microsoft.com, and you get all these BS listings obviously made by someone who hacked them. i don't get it. it's been like that for months!
i'm interested in whether this will have deterring value. will the cat eventually give up bringing rodents in? or come in less? the pictures of the skunk and bird are a riot; it's like caller ID for animals!
but the new features just aren't doin' it for me. i'm not handicapped and i don't plan to be any time soon. i don't speak hungarian, and will probably only start once i'm handicapped. and i'm comfortable enough with gdkxft hack to stick with it until a new install. gnome has MUCH more it needs to work on before catering to hungarian handicaps. and i'm sick of seeing that blurb time and time again. why not just say, "Gnome 2.0 released: so who cares?"
No, this is not a flame. In fact, I'm duly impressed by how much thought you've put into this. And that's what I'm commenting on.
I use pirated software all the time, and feel no guilt about it, just like most people. However, I would feel guilt for posting a comment like yours. Once you've planned a failsafe strategy to get a whole corporation involved in illegal matters, I think you go from theft to Theft.
No, I don't really think theft capitalized differs from one with a little "t," in fact I worked for an ISP that just handed Microsoft, Cytrix and Solaris (etc.) software around like cookies and felt no qualm. We had no "strategy," in case we got caught. I know piracy is simply theft, even when I get my mp3s. But like most of us, I acknowlegde that I am a theif and that it is wrong (if only for the fact that it's illegal.)
This is not a case of consumer rights. "We, the people" do not legislate directly in this country. If we break the laws and steal, let us admit it to ourselves. To use Kazaa is theft, to counsel these "strategies" is uber-theft. We have our open-source, let us use that and protect it --and at least respect the legal status of proprietaries even if we don't obey it.
"Printed matter isn't anti-aliased either, and printed matter is the gold standard for good looking text."
Well, yes, printed matter is beautiful -- but it's usually vectored up on laser printers so that the characters are perfect. Can your monitor do this? Unless you own a miracle screen, the text on it is comparable to something printed off a dot-matrix. Hence the need for aa.
actually, i'm a strong Catholic myself. analogize away! i apologize if my post seemed to indicate the exact opposite of my position. that seems to happen all too often with me. i believe intervening with the processes that naturally produce humans is acting directly against the will of God.
these scientists need to realize that fucking around with the beginnings of life will never be acceptable in any way to religious groups. although it's a noble effort on their part, if the procedure requires the killing of what will become a living man then the Catholic Church will always remain a staunch opponent of such practices.

heh, that'll beat scaring people by moving their cursor via pc-connection! but you could really mess up your system when you sneeze.
and on a side note, i'm kinda annoyed by the term "wireless devices." i mean, i've used wireless devices my whole life: forks, shoelaces, screwdrivers . . . the philosopher in me has trouble naming things in terms of what they're not.
so the argument goes that since jupiter in some manner made life possible for earth, and total destruction for many other planets . . . this doesn't sound like a very intelligent way of going about it at all! "Hey, let's find all the giant planet destroyers because they sometimes, in very rare and complicated circumstances, factor into making possible in their own limited way!" somehow, i don't think so.
let me clarify my position a bit: yes, a fee would be fine if the proceeds are to be used legitimately for known needs known in ADVANCE that cannot be met via tuition. although these ARE rare, some schools need to charge a fee for a good connection, computer paper, or for software that they believe that they will need, and don't have enough funds from tuition. but charging a fee and then saying, "now what are we gonna blow our cash on THIS year?" is just wrong.
you can't beat this: stop charging them the tech fee. i paid it all four years and got nothing but crappy half-implemented services like "blackboard" (an assignment/notice/expensive software that only CS professors were willing to use/schedule web application). here's my advice, if you don't know what you're charging a fee for -- don't charge it!!! how would you like a government-gizmo-thingy-tax?
the patch still works no matter the mozilla version, it's only off by a few lines for 9.7 and up. i just apply it manually. still, libgdkxft is not the same thing as this.
apart from the informality of my post, i have trouble understanding your irritation with it. oh well. linux AA fonts aren't that bad if you get the right ones, not the half-broken free ones that come with enlightenment. just import the ones you purchased with your treasured windows. mine look great, and they don't make me feel embarrassed.
uh, what exactly is linux klugding in? if u mean MOZILLA needs to be PATCHED to use xft, i see what u mean. but mozilla is not linux nor is patching "kludging." furthermore, render and xft has been around for years as well.
well thank gosh for april 1st. but because of your post i DID read the words "feminine itching" on /. and i am not taking it lightly.

sure it's configurable, that's /etc/XftConfig's job. don't ask me to explain the syntax, but that's what the file does.
