Think of Mac OSX. Used by corporate desktops (I'm ./, sure somewhere somebody uses it for serious work). Much of the smoothflow of the desktop of supplemented with 3D acceleration.

My point is that 3D graphics are not limited to games and are becoming more mainstream requirement, like 24-bit colour as opposed to 8-bit.

No 3D? In that case this card is going to be completely useless for most users.

With just about every decent game and the new Xorg extensions both requiring accelerated openGL, and the fact that most motherboards have some kind of video controller on board, these cards will only be of interest to a very very small group.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't go ahead and make this card, I'm just saying they'd better not expect anyone to actually buy them. It might be a good starting point for a 3D card down the track.

As another poster pointed out, our efforts might be better spent lobbying nvidia to open their APIs. After all, their hardware can be as secret as it wants, but the interface should be freely documented.

And I can't believe he didn't mention the changes to the musical score.

In some of the most dramatic moments (such as the Death Star run), the music is ramped down so it's barely audiable, in favour of the sound effects. This is due to the sound effect guy doing the final mix.

Also, all the music in ANH has the rear channels swapped. It's fine in ESB and ROTJ, but it's definitely wrong in ANH. Not a problem unless you're listening to it on your 5/7.1 system with some sense of where the instruments are on the sound stage. Then it just gives you a headache. There's no point in just swapping your rear channels over, since then all your sound effects are the wrong way round.

The worst thing is that although the channels are clearly wrong, Lucasfilm have stated this is a "deliberate creative decision".

Interesting to note that one place in the human body with a high temperture differential is the forehead. For those of us that have hair, the forehead is a major vent for the braincase, after all.

Thermal gradients are a valid source of power for many devices, and considerable research has been done on ID chips that can do just that. A rice-grain sized chip might still be a bit big for insertion into a forehead, but give it a few years.
