Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the Old Republic was crumbling away, rotting from the corruption and treachery within. Power-hungry technocrats and wealthy bureaucrats maneuvered and bribed their way into office, while one am- bitious senator plotted to destroy the Jedi and rule the galaxy.
Hoping to restore virtue and the remembered glory of the Republic, the High Council of Senators dispatched the Jedi Knights - protectorate of justice in the galaxy - on a quest to retrieve the lost Kaiburr Crystal. They believed that the small diamond-like object (which intensified the power of the Force) would unite the disaffected among the people and would destroy the corruption around them.
However, within their Council, the evil Senator Palpatine had other traitorous designs. Foreseeing that the Crystal would secure his position as Emperor, Palpatine deceived one of the Jedi Knights and sent him to acquire the Crystal.
Talk with your kids. Make sure they know what Kazaa-Lite is and how to use it. Make sure they know about encryption and how to use it.
Even better, make sure they use something like mldonkey instead. They more you're involved with your kids, the better odds are that they will turn out how you want them to.;)
It won't allow me to download the application on my powerbook. Also, anyone else notice that the only real application named in that flash movie is KaZaA? They don't have a vendetta or anything, do they?:P
Think you're going to get away with copyright infringment?....mmmmmmaybe.....
Firewire and USB2 give the expandability of peripherals, and they're bundling video and sound chipsets that don't suck. RAM and internal drives can be upgraded (although the optical drive would be a trick I'm sure), so that leaves the cpu and mainboard. Non-geeks aren't going to attempt to upgrade those.
Someone needs to just say it: Apple got it really really really right this time.
That, and the one button mouse rocks.....and I *don't* hear you dissing the Newton. I know many a fan sites that would come whuppin' your azz for talking like that!:P
All you need is a putty knife to undo some clips on the bottom. I have a video showing how to do on my home desktop, not here. I could probably shell in and put it up on my site, but I don't feel like getting/.'ed.
If you want it, drop me an e-mail and I'll give you a link. It's pathetically simple.
It's like the old story about billing someone $300 for 10 minutes of work, and one tap with a hammer for someone who was trying to fix a problem for days. The detailed invoice stated:
$40 - 10 minutes of labor $260 - knowing where to tap
Between the story title and my thoughts on P2P over the last few days, it occurs to me that one of the things that I love(d) about the old Napster (AudioGnome, circa 2000-2001) was the ability to find stuff like this.
That's the one things that will always be missing from commercial efforts. The stuff you won't hear on the radio.:\
Anyhoo. Game on. What's the status on PlayFair/FairPlay these days anyway?
If you're typing it into an address bar, then that address bar needs to be located someplace.
If you're talking about seamlessly browing from Site X (external) to Site Y (internal), then I suppose an XPI (possibly an edit to 'open in IE'?) that would detect the regex and spawn IE.
So far as the other way around....I don't see a good reason you'd be typing a URI into IE. So far as clicking links and having them spawn in Firefox, I don't really see a workable solution.:\
What part of the internal site 'demands' IE? I would hope not just the UserAgent string? ActiveX control? Have you tried the ActiveX XPI for Firefox?
Let's say Marvel had been allowing multiple companies to make competing spiderman games for years. Several games were improving year after year, drawing large fan-bases (we'll call it customer-bases for those only concerned with money) to each product, and a superior product every year.
Now, this year, after being beat senseless by competitor X, Activision slaps Marvel with a wad of cash and basically says "we're tired of being beat senseless and actually having to work for our money, give us exclusive rights that if people want a Spiderman game, they have to buy it from us!".
THEN it would be similar. Also, picture those companies trying to make competing "Radioactive-bug-bitten-man" games to compete without the license.
Nah...they'd probably still get their pants sued off.

I can't believe they're a .org.
Not for profit my a**.
Spam 'em.
But I can't help but notice that on that site, there's no talkback form. No e-mail address. No way in which to leave feedback on what they are doing.
:\
Funny that.
You should be actively involved.
;)

1. Download tool.
2. Submit definition to ClamWin and other A/V firms.
3. Profit!!!

I always wanted a toaster on my desk.
That, and the one button mouse rocks.
It's more than that. I've heard that saying for years. I don't know it's origin however.

$85
Not too shabby.
How about $85?
Hands down the easiest to pick up, and arguably the most common.
/usr/ports/misc/screen
Install software from source?
cvsup -g -L2 stable-supfile
cd
make
make install
make clean
Install the binary version?
pkg_add -r screen
next?
If I just read that correctly, you have bigger problems than passwords man.
Okay, here's the rules.
;)
Every time someone mentions the word "Asterisk" in this page, you have to take a shot.
(Note that I'm building 2 of the 'A' Boxes right now. One for my home, and one at the office, a third will go at the ISP.)
Given that my wife owns over 500 cd's and it took over 7 DVD's to backup the set, that would be quite the distribution.
Ironically enough, my backup IS halfway across the country.
;)
Imagine that. I wonder where on earth I put them?
(FYI, UID 31671 is my brother in law. I'm in St. Louis, He's near L.A. He doesn't seem to show up so often though.
Hymn is what PlayFair once was.
Always remember to convert your purchases to m4a from m4p and back them up!

This is starting to sound like what I put up with anytime I go online to play football.
No one likes losing, so a large group of people start cheating in order to win.
So the people who don't like the cheaters wind up having to learn to cheat themselves in order to keep the cheaters honest.
Outcome? No one wins. No one can get an honest game.
This is degenerating into a rights-grab, and only one company per sport will have rights.
I can hear the whiny-children in my head:
EA: Wha! He beat me. I don't like losing. I know! I'll cheat!
VC: Hey! I won fair and square!
EA: *raspberry* I'm taking my ball and going home!
VC: That's not your ball!
EA: It is now!
That pretty much says it all.
:(
I need my mobile device to support either imap or ssh (preferably both), and have it support SyncML for calandars, contacts...all the good stuff.
Without SyncML a mobile device is useless to me.
You now have an IP address, and a known port number.
;)
You're going to sit here and ask a crowd of slashdotter what to do with that list?
Publish it. Right here baby.
Heh. Now compare that with Windows or Linux and same hardware. ;)
*ducks*
