LOL! I had a Best Buy salesdroid tell me that my old cables go bad and I should buy new ones for my home theater. I neglected to tell them my knowledge of electronics because it would be a waste of valuable oxygen. I simply walked away. I avoid Best Buy like the plague.
That was my first thought. How can I get this for my wife? We all know what a man's best friend is, and the women have it. A big diamond is one way to get it.
How about you crap less or use less paper? My 1.6gpf never clogs, except when my daughter uses half a roll of toilet paper to wipe.
Oh, and I much prefer the the low volume "European"* shower heads to those dumb-ass rainwater shower heads. The latter feels like a horse pissing on my head - or at least that's my best guess because I've never had that happen.
This is too funny! As soon as I read your comment, I realized Bladerunner was WAY ahead of it's time. It is still one of the best renditions of a future dystopia on film. We all wish it were like Star Trek, but the truth is far more grim.
The real question is, are we already living in a dystopia? The world is pretty F'ed up.
Apollo had the same mentality. Secretaries (er, office administrators) had $20K Domain/OS workstations with 21" monitors (when those cost A LOT). I forget the word processing package for Apollo - it was pretty good at the time.
I was pondering my own comment about letterboxing and realized why it isn't annoying. Basically, top/bottom letterboxing is less noticeable than left/right letterboxing. Since human peripheral vision scans the horizon, those left and right black boxes are distracting. Contrariwise, top and bottom black boxes go unnoticed since we tend to focus on the central plane of vision.
I disagree. I have dual 24" Samsung 2443 models - 16:10 1920x1200. It is definitely worth the premium. I paid less for two of these than I did for a single 21" 1680x1050 in 2006. I find the 16:10 is much better to work with and watching movies isn't annoying. I don't even notice the letterboxing.
Why in the world anyone would choose a 1920x1080 monitor over 1920x1200 is beyond me. I can't wait until the day those bastard TV "monitors" die.
To put it in general terms - most consumer laptops and screens are 16:9, whereas business laptops and screens tend to be 16:10. The latter is much better. I hate the freaking hyper-rectangular 16:9 displays. Hello laptop makers - we use these things for more than just watching movies!
Thanks for setting things straight. I started reading this long-winded diatribe and gave up when I couldn't make any sense of it. Not to mention it is too long. I have a day job.
I will be tweeting and celebrating only when the tide of intolerance, and evil fanaticism is eradicated totally, and myself and my family can look forward to living free in a world where we do not have to fear that a person is plotting to kill me, just because my views of life and liberty is different to theirs.
The question is flawed. While you may think you are helping society, you are unlikely to do much good and risk getting hacked. It isn't the robbed bandwidth or the chance of the FBI knocking on your door because somebody downloaded kiddie pr0n. It is because getting into the wi-fi router puts that person's computer inside your intranet. Would you let some random person sleep in the spare room of your house?
MS has a tremdous amount of resources and probably some very smart people working for them, it would be nice to see them put it to good use.
Absolutely true. The question is, can they rise above the hoards of mediocre employees to make a difference? I watched DEC succumb to this fate, long before Compaq and HP ate them up.
There are consistent references that Wally was a great engineer in his youth. Years of bad management has disillusioned him to the point where he realizes nothing he does really matters, so he might as well do nothing.
Basically, Wally is what Dilbert would end up being with 30 years of experience.
Welcome to my world. I have realized that all my hard work garners the same salary. In the end, the greatest beneficiaries are the PHB CEOs, CFOs, etc. I am a Wally too. I marvel at how institutionalized the PHB-effect has become. Nobody even calls them out any more. They are stupid, rich, and in charge.
I guess I wouldn't mind being the progenitor of a new species... also, it would get me out of my mom's basement, and most likely result in meeting girls?
Sucky part is, I guess they don't have fiber-interweb-tubes on Mars?
If you thought satellite internet was slow, try inter-planetary-internet. No mars vs earth quake battles.
I think we are arguing semantics. I easily interpreted "rewires brain" to mean what it says - "allows the brain to rewire itself". I did not picture some Brazil style surgery.
Absolutely! Why do they push the extended warranty so hard? Because it is profit$ for them. FSCK EXTENDED WARRANTIES!!!

Details? We don't need no stinking details!
What would expect from a financial news site. The bean counters eyes might glaze over if they revealed such information.
If the flare had been directed towards the earth, what would have happened?
Communications problems today. Increased incidents of skin cancer next year.
Refer to GP comment about Oracle.

* Oh no! A socialist shower head!
Enhance.

Maybe we should ask the Russians to grab a copy. They are real close.
They are trying to compete with kinect for most-pain caused by a controller system.

I love my dual 1920x1200 (16:10) 24" monitors.
Nice blend of some great franchises. I am eagerly awaiting it. Spider drones look awesome.

Good luck with that.

Agreed. I usually respect the EFF, but in this case I think they are crazy.
Ok, you started it:
To and Fro
Ying and Yang
Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum

I would pass on Wally...

I know what you mean. My HP printer has a blinking LED that was driving me crazy. I had to cover it up with tape.

as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
