Perhaps Microsoft would fund these open source projects. Why does open source have to strictly mean linux? I tend to use both platforms, the more similar we can ge them the better. (IMO)
hey mentions pretty much all scenarios *except* the big one - if the power plug socket in the laptop is whacked. I've been trying to fix mine for ages (I'm no electrican), I can get it working for a week or so, but the soldier breaks everytime. (Its hard to do without frying the MOBO.)
Did everyone already forget that Dell previously sold desktop/server machines with Redhat loaded? It last somewhere around a year, and then they dropped supprt for it.
Do you suppose this is the sme thing all over again?
At what point will they want us to register our CPU ID in a database, and wait 7-10 buisness days before we an actually use it. Oh yea, and you must be of the proper age to purchase a pentium 4 or higher...
An additional problem. When running Gnome on my old laptop, which can only support 800x600 (Trident Cyberblade), some menus go off the screen and there is no way to ALT-Move it past the panel at the top!) (Running helix, but its the same code, right?)
Its very annoying! (And no I can't force my screen to render 1024x768 - X won't run in that mode)
Why isn't it legal? Afterall you are paying for the data by purchasing the computer...if it comes prebundled, one would assume they paid in order to bundle it... This is similar to paying per download..
Okay...AAA, sorry I got over-zealous when I saw it and want one...didn't read the whole post/article....although I am interested to see if someone could make one which recharges off the usb port (while d/ling mp3's at the same time....)
Does anyone know what type of batteries do these things take? Are they the small watch-battery kind? Is it a recharable Li-Ion battery? An interesting concept would be for it to be able to recharge while plugged into a USB socket...
but once you position the mouse, wouldn't the pointer move once you set the mouse down to type?? Having a mouse rest on a desk lets you leave the pointer where its at..if focus is strictly under the mouse, it would get pretty aggrivating...
There will be 4 configuration options: (from the article)"You can have the Microsoft option, the original machine configuration (i.e. what the OEM decided it would ship you, but this is going to be most obviously applicable to new machines shipped by OEMs post-SP1 release), a non-Microsoft option that allows you to substitute non-Microsoft middleware, and custom configuration."
First of all....that only lists three options...;), secondly, isn't the "non-microsoft option" the same as the "custom option" ??...therfore aren't there really only _TWO_ options? =)
becuase x.0 version are generally known to be "buggy" versions. threfore, if they release version 7.3 which is quite, possibly a stable one, then people will buy it. Everyone knows you only move up to a x.0 version if 1) you competetor has a x.0 version above you, or 2) you are going to release a buggy version;)

Just curious, but what the heck do they update it with? I tried "reviving" an old pentium 133 with 32 meg ram....every installer I tried complained that there wasnt enough ram, and that they require a minimum of 64megs. Although...i did not try slackware which might be what I need. hmm.... okay I think I answered my own question, so thanks! =)
Due to opinions like this, I feel the net has become LESS of a creative medium to express thoughts, socialize and invent. All of the sudden the net seems to be one huge marketing campaign. Ads have been plastered everywhere. I miss the days when the worst it could be was a popup. Now we have animations covering the content of the site, the net surfer actually has to wait for the annoying lizard to finish crawling across the screen, or the damn car to stop driving around, becuase they can actually view the content. okay, sorry about the rant.
...anyone miss loki ports?
but trains have only a single path, cars can move around obstacles.
it used to be able to.
Do you think that's air you're breathing now? - Morpheous

Cool, hopefully I can hook up my Atari to it for a portable system! =)

Doesn't the .com imply that its a company? Shouldn't someone with the name Nissan have a .home or .us or something like that?

Probably not, seeing as how this is "News for Nerds", not "News for Light Bulb changers" =)
MAN! I can't wait to get my very own and compete in battle bots! =)
What are they going to do when a rat, or a mouse, or possibly even a snake comes along.
Depending upon how long they have been trapped....they will probably eat it. =)

'Oh, you wrote a paper, and you got an A? Would it bother you if somebody could just take that paper and get an A too? Would that bug you?'
So is hilary saying that we are allowed to burn CD's of crappy artists?
