I know this is a science site - but I can't help but be happy that this clone had complications. I would like to see the end to full animal cloning. I think genetic engineering and posilby growing human organs in other creatures is a wonderful science but full animal cloning has nothing more to offer and borders on unethical. Hopefully there will be enought set backs that scientists wont risk the complications on human tests.
Oh, sorry. I got lost between posts. I think what it comes down to is that we are both right.
Apple solutions have more value for me (because I don't like dealing with warranty issues). But an x86 (with Linux or Windows) might be better for somebody else.
I'm not saying that Apple has NO hardware issues because I am sure there are horror stories. But I have had MANY more x86 issues than I would like to remember. Either way for the geek in all of us... having a *nix box is wonderful isn't it?
Have a good day. If you would like to discuss further I am the same person on AOL.
Do you use your server for everyday tasks, like StarOffice, email, and everything else.
Server software is stable because it has to be. Because Norton crashes your OS X box doesn't mean that OS X is more unstable than Linux - it means that norton sucks (big surprise).
Yes, if you run Linux as a server it is more stable. If you run it as an every-day machine it is not.
Okay, except in my experience of buying PC components - they don't last 3 years. They last 3 months with (my) normal use.
I have had my mac for well over 3 years and nothing has gone wrong. I built my pc for gaming 1.5 years ago and have replaced most of the components. I bought nVidia, SoundBlaster, Gigabyte Mobo. The best stuff you can for PC. The only thing I still have in there originally is one out of two hard drives and the mother board. Otherwise everything else had to go in for warrenty repair.
My Dell Laptop has had 4 service calls in the two years I have owned it. One mother board, one hard drive, two keyboards.
My iBook - nothing in 2 years. My tower? Nothing in 3. So don't tell me about components. Have you ever owned a Mac?
OS X is more than just a "pretty face." Do you use vim on a Windows box and compile your C++ code using GCC on the command line? no... why? Cause you can't. I use OS X because it is partially free (speech) and because it is the most useful OS on the planet right now. I have run Linux (many flavors) Windows XP and 2000 and they dont' come close. My 2000 box blue screens about once a week. My Linux laptop is unstable if I run X. OS X has never crashed for me.
Sorry for the long post but there are too many people who don't own Macs but love to criticize.
Wow, I have never heard of free software. And this "red hat" person... is that is hacker handle? He must be a criminal to have a handle.
I am kidding. Yes I know there is Linux and such for free but if you can show me a Linux box running X11 that is as stable as OS X I will submit and sell my iBook.
A PC with the lowest grade hardware you can find. Also you will not have an OS either. Yeah... if you pirate Windows, buy crappy hardware, don't care about noise then yeah... you have yourself a computer. When you buy quality you pay a little bit more with the peace of mind that comes with it.
I saw these at Macworld for the first time and I am truely amazed. I am a born and raised PC user but I recently switched to Mac because of MS's craptastic doings - I tried Linux but it wasn't pretty enough. Plus, why use Linux when you can get a *nix box with OS X and still have the best GUI and best app support out there? Anyway - these products are so far beyond anything that a PC vendor has available. You couldn't pay (under $500) for a better product on the PC platform. This really is an awesome set of apps.
I agree 100%. Laptop are an exception. I think that if people tried Mac laptops they would never chose anything else. They really aren't that much more than other brands and the quality of engineering is so much higher. Otherwise, on the desktop market - OS X is hindered by the expense of mac hardware.
OS X IS Unix based. It has a gui (a great one) it has games and it has MS Office yet it still can't beat MS. Why do you think Linux ever will? Linux doesn't have a unified GUI. Unix can't even get anti-aliasing out of the box for browsers or much else. Linux isn't on the desktop because it still doesn't beat windows in day to day usage. Not for non-geeks. Karma to hell, OS X is better than any OS out there and it still isn't winning against MS.
The higher the better. Always put it above 6' at least. Mounting from the ceiling works well too. Also, make sure that when you go through a wall it is straight not catycorner (sp?).
I have been patiently awaiting Ximain Gnome 2.0. I fully expected it to be release in accordance with Linux World. DAMN IT ALL TO HELL! Where are you, oh god of gnome!
At first I always wondered why there aren't more people that bitch about computer noise. Then I realized that: 1. Most people have a sepearate room for their pc 2. The rest (kids and college students) don't care because they shut off thier pc at night
This made me think of the Matrix when Agent Smith described humans as viruses. He really hit the nail on the head with that one. I think we are a swarm... a big sneeze ball of viruses.
The problem lies in that Microsoft supplied a "broken" JVM. Because of this Sun wanted MS to fix it to standard or to stop using it. MS stopped using Java completely. Now Sun wants MS to put a not broken JVM into Windows. Sun didn't change their mind, MS is just f*ing with the public and making it seem that way.

What incompatibility problem. List some...
It will finally force web authors to support standards not monopolies.
but... when does Ximian Gnome 2.0 and Phoenix .6 come out? I have been waiting for what seems forever for them to be released.

Wow... so we agree. Yet you were disagreeing by giving those examples.

GBA isn't a competitor for the iPod until you take away the filter, add storage space, and then give it decent sound quality. Then it might be.

(recent Mac switcher)
it is only better if you are going to make use of the extra tools. Value for the $ it is not better.

Did they have HUGE tail pipes and make loud vpppppt noises when they run?
I downloaded Safari and it was like beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. It was a really good slashdot post, too.
Relax I am an Apple user.

I know from a friend in Apple that the deal was reached because of some out of court settlements. MS doesn't give charity to the competition.
This made me think of the Matrix when Agent Smith described humans as viruses. He really hit the nail on the head with that one. I think we are a swarm... a big sneeze ball of viruses.

This is not a troll... it is insightful. I wish I had mod points when I wanted them.
News release after news release I creep slowly, cautiously over to Mac. One day I will pounce... one day...
