Typically the way this would work. Is that your new company would pay you for your work. You would be able to merge back all your maintenance work back into the mainline. but additional enterprise features, or improvements are not merged.
Or another option is that they are merged, but only after a few months, giving, your company an advantage.
What ever you do, you should try to protect the OS community. But, lots of opensource projects can not survive without a corrporate paycheck.
I bet they do have linux versions. They just don't go through the QA process. As stated before, Linux users are a small percentage of the user base. Cutting QA costs increases the profit.
Java can be just as fast as C... Just look at the Java multimedia projects... Speech to text.... text to speech... all in java.... all just as fast as C could do it....
I think the Linux/Unix Cut & Paste is WAY better then windows... at work/home i use Linux, Windows, and Solaris... I don't have any problem with Unix cut and paste... I prefer it....
every once an a while some java app are don't copy/paste write... But if i slow down my high speed cut and pasting everything works GREAT!....
When i was in high school i took a GOOD PC (A+)repair class... I learned what IRQ, DMA, Mpu and all that good stuff was really about... not just ok... place this card here... or make sure the IRQ is free.... Most importantly we learned about the OS...
Computers are not like they used to be... your best bet is to know your OS... hardware is easy to replace... easy to trouble shoot...
You really need to understand the OS... and then you will see that you don't need that expensive software... save your money... and take a good class...
I won't even think about getting a CS degree now... unless you don't live in the US...
The best bet for you would be nono-tech... if your already a Doctor it my be a great switch... Take some Engineering classes and see if you like it... if so get into nono-tech... Thats what the US will be into very strongly by the time your ready to jump in....
Somebody should talk to schools in the state of Maine. Every 7th grader has a laptop... They have to leave them at the school. They are all Macs with just minimal software...
Every body just needs to band together and boycot the music industry... you know... not buy CD's... and well everything else... I am sure this will work in our culture where everything is centered around materials!
What are they going to have to script J. Lo in the movie too... Those two should just stop acting before they get any worse... oh... I must be to late...
CIS is a small degree for people who want to make money with computers but can't use them for beans. It is the knowledge of a good high school geek.
I am a Senior at New Hampshire Tech. Inst. in Computer Engineering Technology that will transfer into CPE next year and feel what ever you do just don't pick CIS!
I am sure this has been said before...

I don't know about any of you, but I don't think my linux box is very secure at all. Let me know if you can hack it: http://127.0.0.1/

Just my two cents.
Picture that....
There has been a Java version for a while now?
jmdns.sourceforge.net/
Why is a windows version a big deal?
Who needs board games when you can play Doctor!
Some body had to say it!

Mono = Microsoft.NIX
Think about it... Where is Technology going to be in another 10 years....
Think about how cheap disk space has become....
Think about how mp3's have changed the way you listen to music....
I don't like Big Bill as much as the next guy...
But so what if the DVD is outdated in 10 years....

I wish windows cut and paste worked like Unix...
It is not enough to distort 2D windows in a 3D envirment... With this system you would be able to get less work done slower...
A better 3D system would be something based on Looking Glass... where its adding features to a 2D envirment.... Plus new windowing ideas...
Or I could just get a handheld GPS,
And it could Map out where i wanted to go....
But thats just me... and I do not like to pay for services...

Putting Adds in there installer or Adds anywhere in a Distro just doesn't seem fair to me.
I am just not going to install MDK... thats simple.
Next thing thats going to happen there will be an add in my Bios screen when i turn on my laptop...
