The XPS notebooks are little powerhouses, but complaining about the lack of DX10 support? Why is this an issue in a NOTEBOOK? You should be asking: Why is this an issue for ANY computer?
I have yet to hear about any games that are going to be DX10 exclusive. Alot of people are staying away from Vista, whether they have a notebook or desktop. I have the M1710 notebook, and I use it PURELY for gaming. The DTR (Desktop replacement) business is really starting to pick up. There are quite a few laptops being made specifically for gaming. So in maybe a few years from now, the fact that laptops don't have DX10 could be an issue.
plainly stated genocide -check I Agree Native American genocide
First of all, diseases were the primary cause of the "downfall" of native americans. Yes, the disease came from the colonists but I doubt you can show me a link were there is a U.S. president STATING that we must kill all native Americans. The Spaniards weren't very nice to native americans either. Either way, this happened over a hundred years ago. This is immensely different than the situation in Iran, because people are claiming this NOW.
intolerant idealism -check I agree Creationism, Christian Fundamentalism
While creationists and christian fundamentalists annoy the hell out of of me, they aren't killing me because I don't hold the same beliefs as them. I can't say the same for Islamic fundamentalist and other middle-eastern fundamentalist movements.
racist -check Do I need to even say anything. America invented modern racism
What the fuck? Modern racism? Racism is racsim. It's a trait that's humans have had since creation. You can't "invent" a common characteristic that people have. America is definately not the only racist country. Iraq, Isreal, Pakistan, and Iran all have people who are killing each other en mass due to race. There's no wars going on between races in the United Sates.

We aren't the sworn enemy of these countries. You're making a huge leap comparing our relationship with Canada/Mexico to Iran/Pakistan's relationship to Isreal.

While I think Iraq was a huge mistake for the U.S., we've lost less than 3000 troops so far, there's no draft, and we definately weren't "sarcificed" for the cold war either.
I hope you aren't an American. If you are, please leave our country since you obviously hate it so much. It's people like you the make it so easy for the conservatives to pin liberals/democrats like me as "hate mongering liberals." I disagree with tons of things the U.S. gov't has done, but were aren't Iran. We are nothing like Iran. I can't believe you got modded insightful. I shouldn't even haven taken the time to respond to your troll a day after the article was posted, but your attitude is something I don't want to be spreading.
It's important that presidents have at least some personality. I believe a presidents personality can go along way when they are trying to sway the opinion of the public. It might sound stupid, but it's easier for people to agree with someone who is charming and likeable, than a cold bitch. I'm curious as to why we haven't been able to find a candidate that has both charm and competence. I think Bill Clinton was the last presidential candidate that had such qualities.
However, I do agree that we focus too much on the candidates' personality, but I think it's still important to keep in mind that presidents often make decisions based on input from their cabinet. How much Bush listens to his advisors, I have no idea. By going off of how shitty his administration is doing, I would say there is alot of groupthink going on. I guess I'm trying to say a president can still be an incompetent idiot and do a good job if they have good advisors and they listen to them. Bush either has advisors that do nothing but agree with him, or advisors that he doesn't listen too.
I paid $40 for 7 years of Starcraft 1. The scope of WoW is at least an order of magnitude larger than SC. 2. The bandwith requirements to host all the shards of WoW dwarfs the bandwith requirements of Bnet. 3. Blizzard hasn't updated Starcraft for years (minor patches don't count).
Blizzard has really gone down hill.. Yeah, just look at how many subscribers they have.
If you still enjoy Starcraft (after 7 years) more the WoW, by all means, keep playing Starcraft. Just because a company is charging a monthly fee doesn't mean they are going down hill. If even dabbled in game development you would know what I'm talking about.
You think they were crazy to charge $5-$15 a month? Well, obviously not that crazy because they have over 8 million subscribers, much more than any other game that has charged a monthly fee.
Seriously, 15$ is not that much. It's much less than %1 of my monthly income. If you enjoy the game, what's the big deal?
Oh, and Blizzard/Vivendi are greedy leechers because they charge a price that's adjusted to the demand? Shame on them for charging prices that their customers are willing to pay for!
Changing it to 5km, or better yet, making how close you can warp to something skill-based would be a good change. But then bookmarks will come back into play. They would have to prevent bookmarks from being made or something.
Actually, bigger ships do have penalties for being big. It takes them forever to align and get up to full speed.
The main problem I have with WTZ is that player to player interaction becomes very limited. CCP has effectively made a game where people can completely avoid interaction with others, thus making it feel like a single player game. They need to create more locations that attract many players. The only thing right now is asteroid belts and complexes. Those things only attract certain niches of players.
We are so close to Chimpanzee's that a human/ape hybrid is possible without the help of genetic manipulation, i.e. wear a condom if your that desperate. While I admit that I am a slashdotter, I don't think I'll ever be THAT desperate.
I'd think this would get boring after a while. Crafting tools and killing defenseless little creatures -- are they trying to level up, or what??:) Yeah I think so, there's no way they can take on Nax at this point. Although with these new spears they seem to give significant boost to their dps. If the monkeys can get a little cc they'd be set.
I played Eve for about 6 months. When I joined a serious PVP corp, it seemed most of our activities involved were flying around and ganking defenseless ships or gatecamping. Our larger battles, which were rare, usually involved one fleet completely devestating the other. If PVP involved NPC stations, it was just a cat and mouse game where the mouse was always able to run back to his hole. As an overall experience, I felt PVP was dull and yielded little rewards.
What is currently being done improve the PVP experience?
One of the funniest, most well adjusted people I know was molested at six; it doesn't scar you for life, a savage beating from bullies just might though. Why do we practically encourage bullying but go to any lengths to stop child molesters? An acquaintance of yours got molested and is well adjusted. Of course, that means all people who are molested aren't scared for life!! What great logic you have there.
When will people learn that personal experiences don't reflect what the general consensus is? Please do us a favor and at least read wikipedia before posting. Many children who are molested, have serious pyschological issues. I can't find the source, but I remember hearing over 50% that children who are molested will become child molesters themselves, and that child molesters usually molest multiple children. If you do the math, it's a problem that's growing.
I'm not trying to say I'm against privacy, or that the hacker wasn't out of line, but you can't be spreading misinformation like that, especially when you're making a serious issue seem like it's no big deal.
Seriously, just leave me alone. I'm trying to defend an issue that I think is important. You are derailing the conversation, which is much more important than a lesson in logic. If I were doing this for a grade or for work I would have paid more attention.
I'm pretty damn sure you know what I mean.
Actually on second thought, you're retarded.
The logic you used is actaully correct. You never stated the characteristics of an elephant in the set of facts you provided. Therefore, an elephant could be a necrophag or an animal with a hundred eyes. If I said
All cops have a gun. Cops are a subset of people. Not all people have guns. Therefore not all cops have gun.
I would like to see you survive one day being a cop. It's a tough fucking job. I never been one, but I talk alot about it with my friend. If you saw half the shit he sees every day, I would have no doubt you would shit your pants. Have you ever had to scrape brains of the driveway pavement? Have you had to handcuff a cocain addict, while his brother is trying to beat the shit out of you. Have you ever been OC sprayed in the face, and then have to successfully pin down another officer. He also had to be tasered. Have you ever been shoot at? You think, after going through all that shit, and then getting absolutely no respect from anyone, that you would still be upstanding example of society? Well, get off your high horse. It's not a black and white world out there.
Fine, say he's on a power trip. Whatever makes you sleep at night. But it's the lack of respect from people like you that turn cops into corrupt assholes.
If you think cops are corrupt here, go live in Vietnam for a few years.
I would consider that a power trip. Laws and punishments are made to deter people from doing those actions. I don't use marijuana because I could lose my job and I could go to jail. If this wasn't the case, I would probably at least try some weed. If I knew that cops wouldn't pull people over for speeding, I would be a lot more liberal with my gas pedal. Right now, most traffic laws aren't applied to cops regardless if they were on duty are off duty. They speed because laws don't apply to them. Just like many of us would do things we normally wouldn't, if laws prohibiting those things didn't exist.
The point that I'm trying to make is that, if you want cops to obey the law, simply calling them power tripping tryants and moaning about them not following the law isn't going to change anything. If you want things to change, you are going to have to create policies within the police department that punish cops for not following taffic laws.
If this guy was legitimately on the way to an emergency, then he should have had his lights and siren on. If it was a "silent call" then there is a protocol for that, too. But if it was neither of them, then he should get a fine and get points on his license just like the rest of us. Maybe they should, but they don't. That's why they speed.
My point of my OP, is to say cops speed because they can, not because they are assholes. Whether they are an asshole or not is still left in question.
Policies are going to have to get implemented if you want to see cops following the traffic laws without sirens. People aren't going to solve this problem by bitching about cops and calling them assholes.
I must point out that most of my experience with police has NOT been when I was doing something wrong. You are being hypocritical. Ask anyone who has gotten arrested/fined by the police, no one ever believes they did something wrong. I remember in my poli sci class reading about some survey that at least 90% of prison inmates believe that they didn't do anything wrong.
You say that cops shouldn't be able to break the law just because they are cops, but your post implies that you think it's okay for you to break the law because it was a 2 mile segment. Either way, you both are breaking the law. I'm not trying to say that this makes the cop right. I'm just trying to point out that everyone has their own ways of justifying their law-breaking. If you want cops to follow the laws better, than try to get policies implemented that punish them for breaking the law, because right now, there aren't that many.
Note: If a cop in Phoenix gets a DUI, he is instantly terminated. That is actaully a new policy for Phoenix PD's.
Like most bullies, they are abject cowards when it comes to people with real power (and rightfully so since the cops get the same treatment when they try to enforce real rules on people in power) This is the most ludicrous statement I've heard all day. That means alot because I've been reading lots of comments on slashdot today.
Cops are definately not cowards. You can say they abuse their powers at times, but I think it takes alot of balls to be dealing with criminals on a constant basis. I don't know if you ever been shot at before, but putting yourself in the line of fire is not a cowardly action. People always bitch and moan about cops screwing them over. The fact is that cops are saving people's lives every day, but once a cop is giving you a speeding ticket they instantly become the tyranny the rules over us all. I have even more respect for cops because of this.
My friend says most of his non-report writing time is spent on dealing with domestic disputes. He always tries to get both sides of the story, and tries to treat people with respect. He's told me many stories where he is treated like shit by the person who he is trying to help. Do you know what it feels like to be treated like shit, when you're only trying to help? If you are dick to a cop, don't be surprised when he is dick back. The difference is that he can actually screw you over. The golden rule can go a long way with dealing with cops.
I never said that it's safer for cops to speed. I'm just trying to dispel this idea that all cops are on power trips. Maybe if you were give the oppurtunity, you would still follow the speed limit, even if you didn't have to. But I know many, many people who would speed to their hearts content if they could get away with it. Does it make them tyrannical? No.
My friend spends most of his time dealing with domestic disputes. Alot of families out there can't solve their problems with out using violence. When he arrives to the scene, he has try to calm these people down try to figure out what's going on. Instead of being cooperative, these people treat him like shit. I can't blame him when he proceeds to do background checks on all the people, when they start being dicks to him. He usually finds a warrant or two, and he takes those people to jail.
They are not here to help you, there are not here to protect you -- there are there to protect their own incomes and pensions, and you are powerless to stop it as long as you continue to vote into office people who love the authoritarian powers attached to both the liberal and conservative sides of the political system. Yay for sweeping generalizations! A cop going over 15 miles speed limits means that all cops want to subject us to their evil tryanny! Give me a break.
Here is the facts: Cops are people. There are good people and there are bad people. Therefore, there are good cops and bad cops.
My best friend is a police officer in Phoenix. He is truly a great guy. The whole reason why he wanted to be a police officer is because he wanted to help people. I believe him when he says it because he's done some crazy things like running out in traffic to render aid to really bad accident at an intersection. When he is off duty, he really is a friendly guy.
I went to visit him, and he drove me around when we went out. Even off duty, he drove like a speed demon. I asked him what happens if he got pulled over for speeding. He said he simply shows the cop his police identification, and the cop will let him go about his way. So there you have it, he speeds because he can, not because he is on some evil power trip. Would you speed if you know you wouldn't get a ticket? I sure would. Hell, I still speed regardless.
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Even our mayor, some one who you would probably see as part of the "tryannical government", got in big trouble for following a speeding cop. All he was doing was try to get the cops license number, but instead he got a heafty fine.
So the problem isn't with the "tryannical" government trying to oppress us, as you so FUDingly pointed out. Nor is it the cops themselves. It's policies with in the police department. I'm sure someone has the power to change the policies, whether it's the sherriff or the mayor. Just remember, if we force police to pull themselves over, we are forcing them to work against each other.
Please stop pinning cops as assholes on a power trip. Maybe some of them are that way because they never get any respect, even when they are trying to help.
You failed to mention the fact that there's thing called "rerolling." If you don't like a certain class, you reroll another class. And it doesn't take very long to max out a class. So you're not "pigeon holed" into a style of play in WoW either.

I really don't feel like using set analysis but really what I meant is.
Cops are a subset of people.
Since the set of people could contain both bad people and good people, a cop could be a good person and a bad person.
