what happens when users change roles, get promoted, demoted......
Heck, I end up using a variety of computers through out the day as problems pop up. This would trigger an alert everytime I brought up a ssh window on an average user's computer to kill a runaway process, etc.....Full time staff is right, either that or every computer I touched would end up with quite a wide "border" of actions allowed and would defeat the purpose of the system.
prices will be $50 for the starter kit which includes....
Sounds like buying razors.........
Gillette - "Yeah, its $5 for a razor and that includes 2 blades"
Joe Schmoe - "Wow! Great deal....and that's for an Sensor Razor? Wow!"

Its hard enough to get people to pay for music. I'm not sure why MS thinks it will be any different for people playing games. I can't imagine this will be cheap. (Sounds kinda like game porn. "give us your credit card number and we'll charge you for the minutes.....till your card runs out....")
I wonder how long it will be until someone has figured out how to set up an 'illegal' P2P network to 'illegally' play your games online without paying?
Sensationalist! No Doubt!! That picture makes it look like this thing is the size of the moon! I think that would cause a little more than "continent" wide destruction
Apparently you haven't used Mandrake. It has a nice Update feature that allows you update "exploitable" programs relatively pain free, and again, I don't see how this is any different than thousands of IIS boxes out there unpatched.
When was the last time you saw two competiting grocery stores run newspaper ads supporting each other.
This is not the same. I think the analogy would be better if you think of MS as a supplier and the computer manufacturers as grocery stores. MS says you should sell our apples and if you try to sell other supplier's apples, we will delay our shipments of apples to you and you may start getting second rate apples, etc..... As a result, the grocery store may not even try to sell the competing suppliers apples. This isn't business as usual, this is monopoly.....(which I guess is Business as usual for MS)
(note, the apple analogy was intentional)
I'm not positive of this anymore, but while I was going to school (couple of years ago), we played around with the Robocup in our AI class. It was very interesting and very difficult. At the time, there was a downloadable environment that you could play with to get the behavior of your little robots correct. It implemented a field and the rules and you could download teams, and then play around with them. I also believe that they used the software for some of the competitions so others, like us without the unlimited budget, could also play.
Here's a link to the soccer server.
There's probably a reason why there aren't that many open source Flash development tools. Flash seems to be mainly for commercials and TV-like movement on a webpage. Open source doesn't seem to get behind technologies that offer nothing more than "flash", but no real substance. You'll probably find a few tools that someone who thinks Flash is "neat" is working on, but a full-on v1.X gimp-like tool, I don't think so......
Finally I have something I can do with all the cassettes I collected through the 80s, and judging by the colors of the wires and circuit board, somewhere I can use all my day-glo clothes!
Ummm......do it yourself!! Hello? Open source....coders needed!

An in related news, live play-by-play coverage of paint drying!

We're geeks! We like to make our things look cool/geeky.
./,.......unless you're a geek!
Why waste time modding?? WHy waste time reading and posting to
Hmmm, does it seem strange that such a tool would only be available for IE 5.5+ on the windows platform?
Perhaps MS can sue them for 'theft of look and feel.'
and then Apple can sue M$ Windows.......and so on and so on......

You're not only getting faster speed, you're getting a stronger radio signal
Operating at the 2.4GHz range, this means I can throw out my microwave. This thing will heat up my coffee while giving me bandwidth.....
