However, if the PSP can play movies and music AND games, I don't think it'll die that easy. I agree that the gamers in the audience would rather have a cheap and cool gaming system with a huge battery life, I can't deny that I would love to have an all-in-one portable gaming/music/movie device. Not to mention I'll have a good job soon with _no_ student loans - Gadgets here I come!
That's pretty paltry. Anyone I've ever talked to basically learns all their knowledge about linux installing things. =) ie. Oh! That's why it doesn't start X, I accidentally installed the unstable xlibs and screwed the pooch!!
I like the fact that I could play a game and if I was hooked enough on it, learn something useful. Imagine teaching kids this way.. Play enough pokemon, learn Japanese. I think that would be totally worth it.
Wierd that all the slashdotters say is "get hard drive".
I believe you've tapped the obligatory response of pretty much all linux fuckwads from whom you go to ask help. I'm not saying that all linux people that help are fuckwads, just that some people that offer help are fuckwads.
For instance, asking a question like: "Hi, I'm trying to compile and install prog1 and I get this error, can I get some help on this?" Fuckwad response: "prog1 sucks. Use prog2. It's better" Great pile of fucking help there buddy, glad you offered that up.
I tend to ignore those responses just because a lot of linux "helpers" tend to be crazy fanatics who like the CLI interface of some obscure program over some easy to use KDE gui frontend for another program. *note* This is after trying to install several hundred different programs all being professedly "better" than what I wanted to install and finding out that it has a huge lame ass learning curve with an obscure syntax - screw that man! Hey, maybe CLI's are better/faster/make your dick bigger, but I gotta work it in slowly.
My power supply decided to just crap out one day and set itself on fire.... This really happened. Let me tell you, I don't like the smell of burning computer plastic in the morning. Luckily nothing else was phased.
Apple will make this a standard component first, in the same way as they picked up on other trends and mainstreamed them, e.g. window-based UI, 17" screen, PDA.
Kinda strange though, that when I think of those three items I don't think of Apple....
The U.S. builds a 5 storie-tall armoured robot that shoots rockets out of it hands, has laser beams for eyes, and powered by a nuclear reactor. Bush is reported to have said "In your face Kim Jong!... Boo-yeah!"
I recognize that advertising is important to get your company's product in the consumer eyes, and I think that this method is a lot better than ads with +20 volume SHOUTING at you about their new product. I would rather have subtle advertising (read: _not_ subliminal) than something that's in my face.
When, or if, you americans actually do adopt the metric system, it's spelled Metre.. =) Hope that helps... Meter is more commonly known as the measuring device.. heck, from Dictionary.com:
meter
n.
1. The measured arrangement of words in poetry, as by accentual rhythm, syllabic quantity, or the number of syllables in a line.
2. A particular arrangement of words in poetry, such as iambic pentameter, determined by the kind and number of metrical units in a line.
3. The rhythmic pattern of a stanza, determined by the kind and number of lines.
As it pertains to Music:
1. Division into measures or bars.
2. A specific rhythm determined by the number of beats and the time value assigned to each note in a measure.
Of course, this is just me being a nit-picky bastard.
Is anyone else scared shitless by the incredible power the US is pumping into their weapons? Is there even any country in the world that can match this type of military power?
I don't think segregation is the answer so much as education. You'll notice that a lot of these so called "stupid" people are only stupid because of a lack of proper education. Gullability can also be traced to improper education (don't listen to strangers, etc.) I find it terribly dissappointing that a lot of the governments nowadays are focusing on things like health care and other problems when the root of it all is education. Imagine if everyone in the world had proper education... I think we would see a lot of solutions to our problems sort themselves out nice and neatly.
There is no eBook that anyone would want to use in lieu of a real, dead-tree version. Nothing is large enough, has the right resolution, battery-life, and most things out there that are large enough are not just specifically for eBooks.
You might want to keep and eye on that new electronic ink technology like this one mentioned on slashdot a little while back, though. I can guarantee you it won't be cheap for a little while after they release the technology, plus, it probably won't work with Linux unless you do some hacking, but keep an eye on it none the less..

There's also the problem of getting _so_ attached to your characters that you stop playing the newer games for fear of completing it.. =)
Looking at that, you just have to laugh at the definition:
"The practice of using long, sometimes difficult words in speech or writing."..
That's almost like the words lisp, or abbreviation. I think the guys who came up with our language had a good grasp on irony..
You'd think that a razor with 10 blades would be rather unweildy...

It's for shaving your face and the rest of your body -- at the same time
But really, how hard is it to sound like Jar-jar?
;P
I think we slashdotted the bankers sites.. All I'm getting is load failures and 12 dead links.. =) Way to go!

Well, I didn't get any fire, but a loud "POP" and lots of billowing nasty white/grey/black smoke. I think I damaged my brain from the fumes.. =P

I mean, how can an internet browser have security holes? Honest to god you must be some monumental retard to let that happen.

Just a thought.

Now I don't need a farty dog!, I can just blame it on the laptop!
Uh, we have a constitution as well. And we have the same rights as you do. But we didn't get it before 1980-something.
You should also note that we do not have DMCA. As well as quite a bit MORE rights than most americans have (ie The Patriot Act).
Sorry, no backwards compatiblity for PSP
Backwards compatibility with what, exactly?
just for the record that's not me =D
Maybe Microsoft actually wants to put out a stable, secure, and fast OS, and that's why they're delaying?
Wait a minute, who am I kidding? This is microsoft! hA!
It's the RIAA's fault.
