Like a lot of geeks, you seem to believe that all computers need offer maximum compute performance to have merit.
They do not.
Apple have been trying to engage the PC in the same market as other consumer appliances now for about 20years, and the closest they've got is the iPod.
Personally, I'm considering using a mini as an underset Mac - equipped with Bluetooth, an S-Video converter and Salling Clicker, it should make a great living room computer sitting atop my Sony PS2.
I'm very impressed that you've managed to acheive 20% compression on the phrase "a lot" in your comment. Decompression is a litlle time consuming, but it doesn't COMPLETELY destroy the flow of your brain puke.
Something I've wondered for a while is whether it might be possible to use a set of high quality rudder pedals to help drive the Mac UI - it seems to me that widow scrolling and Exposé functions might be nicely done with one's feet.
Not true. The GPL only denies them that freedom where they are including GPL'd code in their derivative work. Would it be fair to lock up that GPL'd code within a a different license?
You agree? I'll tell you why we haven't found any E.T. life;- it's because we're incredibly primitive and haven't really made any reasonable attempt at looking. Even SETI admit that if there was a planet exactly like Earth orbiting Alpha Centauri they could not detect it. If we can't detect a civilisation like ours in one of our nearest neighbour stars, how the hell could we search thew rest of the galaxy, let alone the rest of the universe?
Let there be no doubt, the universe is FULL of life, we're just too primitive to see it.
Why does your idiot president deserve respect? He hasn't earned any.
I'm no big fan of Moore, but Bush should be in jail, not the White House. As for your "love it or leave it" crap - glad to see that freedom of speech is such an entrenched concept in the small minds of conservative Americans.

What the hell happened? I previewed it, Slashdot broke and it got submitted in BOTH editions?
I can't see this being a big success with the mods...
If the Mac mini is the stupidest thing you've ever seen, then you really ought to get out a bit more.
I mean, you're really gonna piss yourself when you see a car with spinners or downlighters, or watch some reality TV.

You're gonna piss yourself when you see a car with downlighters!
OVERALL performance may drop significantly due to incompatibilities with the new format. Thinking of the bigger picture doesn't hurt.
I don't want to cram 50% more pictures onto my card only to be faced with a large batch convert job so as to make my files useful to others.
Since when do we measure ratios in %?
In what way is "litlle" a compressed form of "little" anyway? Corrupted, sure. Compressed? Nah!
So how do they know if it's an active volcano, alien village or an image compression artifact that they're looking at?
You can claim to have any size HD you want if you're prepared to bullshit.
NASA do a ton of image processing on their remote imagery, the surest way to fuck that in the eye is to apply lossy compression at source.
I think you'll find the ALL of the latest generation video CODECs are wavelet based.

Other formats have come and gone since - I think the wavelet-based LURAWAVE (.lwf) is even still going.
JPEG is like a lot of things - good ENOUGH for the job. Why break everything to get 50% better performance when it's good enough already?

USB Overdrive, anyone?
Access to the contextual menus is primarily gained via modifier-click just as it's always been.
The text you quoted spelled the word "iceberg" correctly. ie what are you on about?
By "British English" I assume you mean English, yes?
I hope they DON'T.
Ubik is a big enough head fuck as a book, a film interpretation might surpass Altered States as the most trippy film ever.

My home OSX box has crashed twice, and it's been going now for 3 years.
My Windows 2000 and XP machines at work seem to crash a couple of times a month at least.
Why is life being meaningless a problem?
Tennis is meaningless, yet it can still be good fun.
define "enjoy"

Apple and Microsoft shareholders BOTH care. Anyone who regards dishonest business practice as morally wrong might also care.
Yes. I'm 99% sure you could knock up an Applescript to do that in about 5 minutes.
