You should stop smoking weed to protect yourself from mouth and lung cancers, and to try and ensure that you don't end up as some mid-thirties loser who does nothing but watch TV and can't handle life without a bifta in their hand.

I know several people who've ended up like that. In "The Big Lebowski", the Dude is funny and our hero, in real life he's just wasted his whole life.

  7. Re:Conspiracy? Yes. on Apple G5 Ads Banned In UK · · Score: 1

I agree. HOWEVER we have a more serious problem - benchmarks are almost completely meaningless. Apple CAN claim the G5 is the 'fastest' if it can do ONE SINGLE OPERATION faster than ANY other computer - as can any other manufacturer if they can show likewise. I rather suspect that there has NEVER BEEN and NEVER WILL BE a 'world's fastest personal computer' by the ASA definition.

  8. Re:Conspiracy? Yes. on Apple G5 Ads Banned In UK · · Score: 1

I know it's a bit of a stretch for Apple to claim the Dual 2Ghz G5 as the world's 'fastest' (though it has better claim to the title than most), but that's advertising for you!

Contrast Apple's exuberance with Intel's ludicrous Centrino ads, where some guy half way up Everest watches a little WMV of his daughter "thanks to Intel's Centrino wireless technology". They never actually explain what they're on about, and I hardly expect there to be a handy wireless access point available up EVERY mountain. It's bollocks, quite frankly, at least Apple's is DEBATABLE.

Shame you missed out on the Amiga!

My first PC graphics accelerator was an Orchid ProDesigner IIs, which could run at up to 800x600 in thousands of colours on my humble Panasonic Multiscan display. It was SO good, that it almost made my disgusting 386DX with Windows 3.1 as nice to use as my friend's Mac II.

The Amiga was still WAY better, but I played Flashback for many hours on that crappy PC coz the progressive scan display didn't make my brain hurt.

Money? If you take a look at the G5, you'll see that its form factor is actually rather peculiar for a desktop - presumably Apple could engineer a 3U Xserve using the existing G5 tower in a month or two, but to do a 1U version is gonna mean a much bigger (and therefore more Xpensive) engineering effort.

The power dissipation of the PPC 970 is really nothing special, a laptop version is definitely feasible, though I'd imagine they'll wait for the 90nm version until they go for it, especially with the MPC 7457 proving itself such a good mobile chip.
