    You mean half the drinking? I would rather have access to a faster school like that that doesnt bore me to tears. Its hard enough working with end users every day, but to sit through classes as knowledge is dribbled into their brains would be too much....

    Truthfully, in our business why would we care if we have DVD capability? We have 40 LTSP network boot workstations that run great sans-dvd support.

    Linux has been a contender in the desktop market for a long time now.
    For anyone with more than 2 brain cels to rub together....

    There has been software to real DVD's on linux for a long time now, and if you really want to download and get all your media files in a cruddy DRM file format from Microsoft, then you deserve your fate. Make OGG files and live free. :)

    Just run MySQL on a *nix server and take a weekend to learn PHP. Its all free, runs fast, and should be able to scale as large as you can throw hardware at it. It will also be cross-platform and web based, so nothing to install on the clients. With some tinkering you could do automated billing (email .pdf's on the fly), really anything you want. G-luck.

    I played UO for almost 6 years, and I think the worst thing they did was update the graphics engine. It used to be that, for PvP, you had to have skill, and low ping times, and you could whoop ass. Now the 3D client slows you down, not to mention all the wussies need Trammel so they can farm all day. I for one miss the pre-trammel days, where there was a real danger from PK's (like me, hehe) The game was fun! you had adrenaline pumping, and you had a risk carrying around too much treasure. Now the game is pussi-fied. Item insurance, zero reg cost, Trammel, the game is a bunch of bunk now. Not to mention that skill is not involved in PvP any more, its almost completely "What Relic's do you have". Ring of the magi = you can own another mage, almost regardless of skill.

    Anyways, there's my rant. I loved UO, but I dont think I will ever go back again.

    jesus, its FREE HARDWARE. I know we could Ghost them, but we shouldn't have to...... Good lord man, thats like "I know I should run windows update, but damnit, I shouldnt have too" Take the free hardware for what its worth. How can free servers, 15 free PC's w/ monitors, and 3000 dollars to upgrade our network be a bad thing?!?!?

    nope, any library that was smart applied to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and got a grant for new networking equip, several pre-setup gateway 's w/ encyclopedia software, and a new windows gateway server. All for free. You know he has to give away millions a DAY just to avoid tax issues. He actually saves himself money by giving it away. :)

    Here's how it goes here: 1st: Management who read's word documents and plays solitaire get new systems 2nd: Relatives of management get new systems, their old systems are handed down to people who do all the work, their systems handed down to the shop, and the shop's systems thrown away and lit on fire. 3rd: Anyone that actually needs a new system is told that we already bought systems, and dont have the cash to get new ones.

    Lets see, either get a 50 dollar TV out card (which admittadly isnt perfect) or get a 1200 dollar projector (which is awesome, and way larger than your TV). find a nice blank wall, or put a cheap white sheet on the wall, and you have an awesome 8' screen.

    I would MUCH rather download what I want, when I want, rather than wait for it to show up on TV, surrounded by brain-rot commercials. (unless its the one with christina agulara in it singing "dirty", then I will watch it)

    Yes, but try to gte JUST cable internet and no cable TV. The comcast rep told me that just for internet, it would be 60 bucks. Thats bull shit, I remember paying AT&T 29.99 for cable, and that was perfect. Now, 3 years and about 5 price hikes later, I am dropping service. Waiting for DSL to hit my street...

    But above all, the main thing a degree shows is that someone had the time and the money to go through and get the degree. I am 25 years old, and have been working at this current job for 3 years as a network admin, and the past year more and more as a coldfusion coder. Prior to that, I did sysadmin work hourly for local business that couldnt afford a full time IT person. Would you rather hire someone fresh out of school, or someone with 6 years on the job experience that is still young enough to be somewhat cheap? =)

    I find I dont really care about compensation(monetary) for working OT, but I do like to have someone above me notice that I stayed late, put the extra effort, etc. That is much more rewarding for me than cash, but cash would be nice too, of course. :)

    Try Coldfusion. Its based on HTML, all tag based, and its relativly easy to learn once you get the hang of it. You can tie into COM objects, talk to any ODBC DB (and some others), and do anything that HTML can do (or flash, or java, etc.) check it out, I make a living with it. :)

    Dreamweaver doesnt piss me off with tables..... text view tag completion works wonders, tab in to keep code sorted and clean, no problems. why dont you like it? WYSIWYG not quite working right?? Learn the code muh brotha!
