I have a P4 based PC that is the same formfactor as the 'new' G5. 17" TFT out front with all the worky bits behind it. Guess what? Its silent. And also guess what? It costs the same as this system. And guess what? If you are willing to invest money in it, you can also get the same level of noise reduction in an off the shelf $399 P4 based system. Its very simple a case of you get what you pay for, a $399 price point doesnt lend itself to $199 in cooling technology.
Well that does it. I post something with a view which many people around the world are thinking right now, and it gets modded flamebait. Seriously, why do people expect the US to be able to watch other peoples development without their own developments being equally watched. Through the views of a large number of americans I have spoken to, read posts from, heard veiws of, I dont think my post was flamebait at all, as its addressing a view that already exists. Certainly not all americans are that way, but the voice that is heard is the one that many people would prefer not to hear, because its biased and bigotted.
The moderating has gone downhill as of late, and the stories are turning into something from the back pages of IT magazines. Adverts for this, blatant opinion posts on that, editors posting their own views in the story and unpopular tho technically correct viewpoints being modded to oblivion. Well, Im sorry, my subscription ran out a few weeks back and I am most certainly not going to renew it.
Ive had it with slashdot, Taco - please close, lock or delete my account. Im not participating any more.
Why is it irresponsable? As he states, these launches are viewable over a huge area, theres no way they can keep this stuff secret. The US certainly monitors launches made by other countries, so why is a little bit of monitoring of its own launches so bad? Do they really deem themselves that far above the rest of the world?
Its only become pay for in the past few weeks, so its very possible that the poster hasnt noticed the updated site and is posting in good faith. 3 or 4 weeks ago, that site allowed you to download a very cool codec pack, with stuff like Real Alternative, and all the codecs you could possible need, without handing over a dime.
Im not so sure there. The moon landings were made using Apollo capsules, so if you are putting capsules up then Id say you are 50% there to a moon landing (well, you know what I mean - its a smaller step than suborbital to orbital). Scaled Composites isnt even in the same league. They have a reusable craft to get them suborbital, they dont have to deal with acceleration, prolonged orbiting, reentry, deceleration, none of which is 'trivial' to tack onto their current capability.
The Chinese are massivly ahead of Scaled Composites. SC have only made it to 100miles, the Chinese have made it to Earth Orbit. Slight difference in difficulty there.
Thats called network locking and is trivially easy to get removed. Here in the UK, take any popular phone down to your local street market and theres always a stall there selling phone covers, they usually unlock the phones for around a tenner.
You can also unlock nokias using manufacturer codes as well, doesnt require any hardware. As soon as I find this link in my mail archive, Ill post a reply to myself. Its a website that generates the correct codes for you to use.
There was a slashdot story a while back which basically stated exactly that quote. Basically you could easily read an entire book where the words were made up of the correct starting character, the correct ending character, but the middle of the word it didnt matter what order the characters came in.
For example: "sadhoslt nwes for nrdes. Sfutf taht mrttaes". (I think ive got that correct, someone will obviously correct me if not:))
Your brain didnt need the middle of the word to understand the word when placed in a sentance. So long as the word was the correct length, your brain could extrapolate the meaning and create a meaningful sentance out of it.
Basically because the landowner doesnt own the rights to the airspace or electromagnetic spectrum over their land, the government does. Just because you own a bit of land doesnt mean you own EVERYTHING over and under that land, in some cases yes you do (mines etc) but in others, you dont (air routes and EMS).
Right, lets get something straight. The GP was talking about general access points, and so was I. In this case, yes I agree that it was a public access point, in a public library, but the grandparent was wider in scope than that and thus that was the scope I followed in my post.
The 'throwing a bottle into a trashcan' analogy is I think the best one. A single empty bottle isnt filling up the can much, but say if I dumped three or four bagfuls of rubbish into that trashcan, its now fullup, you cant put much of anything into it and in quite a few areas, trashcollectors wont take loose (or is it lose?) bags. Youve now lost out on your rubbish collection for that week. The equivilent in this would be the amount of bandwidth someone would be using, if hes using too much then I cant use it for my needs. Its a finite capacity, and while you dont actually lose anything, you are restrained from using it as you want.
That said, it was a public access point in a public place. I dont see the problem.
You assume they dont want you to use it, just as you assume that the tables outside a restaraunt are only for the shops patrons, or the fruit outside a grocers store isnt being given away for free. Just because somethings there doesnt mean you have an automatic right to usage, if in doubt - dont.
Well, looky here. Right on the Microsoft Download page, at the top of the 'favourite downloads' is this. Its conceivable that MS havent released the japanese centric version yet, but if you are going to complain about niche markets, then please make sure you include that information in the complaint, otherwise you run the risk of invalidating your complaint.
For that point, I wouldnt like to fly into space on a shuttle that runs Linux. Neither Linux or Windows are stable enough to be used in that circumstance, you want a proven realtime OS to handle it.

That doesnt work, taking a car without the owners permission is theft, but you also have seperate laws to cover it - Grand Theft Auto.
Is this a blatent troll attempt or what? Firstly, looking at my 'Windows Update' session, I can see an entry for SP2 there straight away, no hiding it, no 'automatic updates' here (which, by the way, doesnt automatically install anything, stop trolling). Secondly, I downloaded the.exe for it a week or so ago, so again, no hiding it there either. You restrain that tongue, since you dont seem to have the brain power to back it up at all.
For anyone else that tries this, automatic updates is akin to having a cron job for 'apt-get update', it refreshes the 'current updates' list that apply to you, without installing anything unless it has your prior aproval.

Post browser rendered data might be faster to transfer. You dont have to transfer what the browser actually downloads.
Thats just it, with music/cds you ARE allowed to grab instruments and have a go yourself.
By natural erosion, or about 2 minutes with a hose.
You going to pay for all of those '2 minutes with a hose' sessions that would be needed?
You are new here, arent you?
Oh, in that case, apologies :)
So thats two invites youve leeched in this story, congratulations. Why request two?
Oh no it shouldnt :) (hes behind you!)
No, it shouldnt.
