  1. Re:Window manager land on Novell Makes Public Release of Xgl Code · · Score: 1

the way compiz does it may be better technnically, but is certainly not the only way. It was quite possible to use glxcompmgr (compiz' predecessor) together with kwin to achieve the famed wobble and exposé effects. http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xgl7uk.pn g http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xgl22bc.pn g Mashing it together with a window manager does seem to make sense I admit, and I'm sure the technical reasons I don't understand are valid. Nonetheless, now if I wish to stick with kwin, I'll have to wait for the code to be transplanted from compiz to kwin, where it will undoubtedly diverge. How good or bad that is remains to be seen.

When my father was stationed in England, we didn't bother with TV (didn't feel like buying a PAL set, or paying tax to use it). Also, being rude Americans, we lived in one of the largest houses in the village. We saw the BBC surveillance vans more than a few times. I am curious then how someone could get hauled to court without having one. We never were, despite their apparent zeal to do so, for the simple reason that their instruments never picked anything up. Maybe someone brought a portable TV to his house to watch a game?

Yeah, seeing the movie cured me of any desire for another movie or season. People assume that means I didn't like the movie, which isn't true. I did enjoy it, but it was the end. We see what's up with River, hear as much as we ever will about Book's past, and the crew dynamic.. uhm.. changes. I don't think there needs to be any more and don't know that there can be. All that talk about Serenity being the first of a Big Damn Trilogy I think must have been a red herring, I just don't want any more.

  6. Re:"To challenge our faith"? More like a flood on Scientists Find Preserved Dodo Bird Bones · · Score: 1

I think you are missing the point of ID. ID != creationism. The big idea behind ID is that the earth may well be billions of year old, that evolution etc may have happened, but that it was under $supreme_being's direction.

Fossils that appear to be millions of years old really are, and represent an intermediate step (or dead end) in $supreme_being's long creation, leading eventually to us.

ID basically states that $supreme_being didn't create the world all at once, but did so in a long process, guiding evolution (which could never have happened on its own). There is therefore no need for ID adherents to explain away fossils. Fossils' existence doesn't conflict with ID.

Incidentally, this is why many fundamentalists reject ID, they see it as a sellout to science and in conflict with the biblical account of creation in 6 days.

It still doesn't belong in schools, but at least knock them for the right reasons ;)

None of the CGI Jabbas look as good as ROTJ Jabba. Unfortunately that really only extends to stills, the puppet's movements just aren't as good as those of the CGI, but at least it looks like a real object that actually exists on the physical plane. It's easier for me to swallow the idea that a giant slug can't move very fast or far than it is to accept the fake look of CGI Jabba. Same could be said of Yoda: the limited movement could be explained by his age. Of course that does present a problem for the prequels, where he needed to be a little more spry.

  12. growing fuel on Ethanol More Trouble Than It's Worth? · · Score: 1

You can only grow so much fuel before the ground has all its minerals sucked out, unless you fertilize it. Guess where most fertiliaer comes from? Natural gas. And of course all those plants are protected by petroleum based pesticides. Ethanol doesn't bring it.

The only thing that sounds remotely plausible to me is Hydrogen as a way to transport and store energy, and fusion to create it. Of course, that doesn't solve the need for pesticides and fertilizer to grow food.

And in no way does adaware remove critical parts of Radlight. The "helpware" (radlight author's word) that comes with radlight is optional. Radlight author said on the radlight forum (RIP) that you can choose not to install the "helpware"
