A little bit of both!
We have actually had TWO different Y2K10 problems at our job. One was related to someone setting certain rules to expire in 2010, because, you know, it was so far off in the future they wouldn't be working here anymore.
The other bug qualifies as complete incompetence on the developer. We contracted another company to write some software to print barcode labels. They encoded pipe delimited values including a date. In order to save digits and thus reduce the size of the barcode they decided to take the year and append the Julian day. For example Jan, 6th of this year would be stored as 2010006. The problem was that they didn't feel that it was necessary to use four digits for the year. Which is understandable, but apparently TWO digits for the year was too much as well. So the end product was a one digit year ex. "0006". The code that reads the label was: year = 2000 + barcode.left(1);
What's really scary, is that this code had to have been written post Y2K.
The worst part of the whole thing is that we have to go back to the contractor to fix the problem which is going to cost us $$$ beyond the lost revenue of downtime.
Now both of these problems have nothing to do with 2010 specifically, but it just shows how short sighted developers can be.
Nuclear power is NEVER a viable solution to ANY problem for the simple reason that the knowledge to create nuclear power is the knowledge to make nuclear weapons. For the simpler people in the crowd, NUCLEAR POWER EQUALS NUCLEAR WEAPONS. There is NO SUCH THING as a "peaceful" nuclear program. All nuclear material can and will be weaponized. For this reason alone nuclear power must be forever abolished and forgotten.
Bring on the U.N. sanctions. No one sell pocket protectors to NASA. They might be used for nefarious purposes.

McCain Backs Nuclear Power

I recently watched a segment on Fox News where they stated that Obama was against Nuclear Power. I did some research and as the parent states, he is FOR using Nuclear Power as part of an overall solution. Here is the letter I sent to Fox News:
Very early this morning I was watching FOX & Friends' coverage of the Energy debate between Senator Obama and Senator McCain. There was a graphic that showed the differences between the two candidates. I saw a difference that was curious to me as I had not seen it mentioned on any other news networks. The graphic and following dialog suggested that Senator McCain was pro nuclear energy while Senator Obama was against it. Energy is obviously a hot topic this election year and I personally believe that Nuclear Power is part of the solution. I found it odd that Senator Obama would be against using Nuclear Energy. I decided to "Google" it to learn more. The top two links were YouTube videos of a primary debate and a round table discussion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjDmyToTYBE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRxl2cVFTLw In both cases it was made clear that Senator Obama is FOR using Nuclear Power as part of an energy solution. I would like to know what sources Fox News used to determine that Senator Obama is against the use of Nuclear Energy so that I may more clearly understand his position on the subject.
I think it is more likely the fact that the (new 80GB Playstation 3 / Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle) went on pre-sale today. Unlike the 40GB variant, it is backwards compatible with Playstation 2 games. The Pre-ordering went live 30 minutes before the crash.
I was looking through the text of the bill and this was the closest thing I could find for "retroactive immunity"
(4) TRANSITION PROCEDURES CONCERNING THE TARGETING OF UNITED STATES PERSONS OVERSEAS- Any authorization in effect on the date of enactment of the FISA Amendments Act of 2007 under section 2.5 of Executive Order 12333 to intentionally target a United States person reasonably believed to be located outside the United States, to acquire the contents of a wire or radio communication sent by or intended to be received by that United States person, shall remain in effect, and shall constitute a sufficient basis for conducting such an acquisition of a United States person located outside the United States, until that authorization expires or 90 days after the date of enactment of the FISA Amendments Act of 2007, whichever is earlier.
The way I interpret was there was a way to request information but it might have gone beyond legal bounds in this case. However, this amendment would make it fall under the provisions of this bill and therefore be "OK". I don't have a full understanding of the bill so don't quote me on this. It does, however, drive me crazy that things like citations don't matter in the news otherwise things like this would be easier to find and verify.
I know it means nothing, but in the bill as part of the certification process for the enactment of using FISA it states the following:
(ii) the procedures referred to in clause (i) are consistent with the requirements of the fourth amendment to the Constitution of the United States and do not permit the intentional targeting of any person who is known at the time of acquisition to be located in the United States;

Invariably the last person's code will seem to suck because you have to think differently to understand it. Patterns were developed to create a common ground where people can think about problems in a similar way. Regardless of how pointless and off track a project might be you still should be able to design reusable concise code if you follow the right kind of patterns.

Those people who are politically active don't need to see them, and those people who are not don't give a poo, so, why bother? Because traditionally voters vote for one of the candidates they are most familiar with. For many people who sit in front of the TV every night, they are going to be most familiar with the candidates with the most ads. They are not going to be voting for Ron Paul, even if his ideals are closest to theirs.

Yes, but expiring laws force congress to re-address the issue, while it is much harder to get support for changing a non-expiry law on the books.
