I really do hope they bundle some games with it. I can't even remember the last time I saw a console & game bundle. When did game consoles generally phase out pack-ins?

Nintendo could easily bundle some classic NES & whatever else older console games. They would then be able to demonstrate their virtual console thingy and parents wouldn't feel presured to buy a new game off the bat. Thus, the incentive to buy it goes up.

Hopefully there will be a freebie game or 2 that makes full use of the wiimote.

C'mon Nintendo, pack in a game or three. They don't have to be huge AAA titles to be packed, but something to get them started.

Google would have to do a lot of infrastructure work to match YouTube's.

Mind you, youtube's search & subscription functions are NOT perfect.

For example, I have a subscription to the keyword "1980s" for any sort of 1980s nostalgia(music, tv shows, etc). If I do a serach of the latest videos that contain that, I often get hits that have nothing to do with the 80s, nor anything showing up for '1980s' in keywords. Yes, I get stupid crap videos from teenagers that should be friends only/private. But I don't mind.

Youtube has a threaded comment system, which is fun to use for an interesting video or 3. I upload Hungarian-language commercials, and people translate it for me in the comments. Lots of Hungarian speakers on youtube.

google video, while nice and crisp doesn't have the nice user experience of browsing videos. I don't like the layout of the new youtube player(ie where they place the text, etc), but it works.

  15. Re:$249 on Microsoft Sides With Nintendo Against Sony · · Score: 1

If the Wii was that price(or even $150) at Christmas time, it would make a killing in sales. Heck, it would have appeal to parents after the sticker shock of the 360 or what the PS3 would be. While the Wii may have less appeal to tweeners, parents would probably get it for their kids due to the lower price.

So the throne of video gaming for this generation would not be dictated by polygon count, etc, but to the lowest bidder, huh?

Of course, anything can happen. Still speculation since we only have 1 of the 3 consoles in the race out.

  16. Videogaming & Computergaming Illustrated on In The Beginning, There Were Video Game Magazines · · Score: 1

The mag was around 1982-1983 before the video game crash. They are a delight to read. Very in-depth reporting of home console games, hardware, and even arcade games. Computer games were lightly covered.

The best mag I ever collected.

The article only seems to cover a fraction of the video game mags that were out there.

  17. AI gripe list on What Would You Like to See from Game AI? · · Score: 1

    1. Racing games: Most racing games seem to have the default AI where computer opponents drive PERFECTLY. They never make an accident. They take turns perfectly. They never drift. They drive as if they were almost bored(that is, if they had feelings). IIRC Gran Turismo 4 if you just leave your car standing in the middle of the road, they don't go around you. They plow right through. I only rarely saw AI cars in GT4 take a turn badly and wipe out in the grass.

    2. GTA and True Crime: NYC

    a. Cops are lemmings. They have an AI route of beelining for you. You can have some fun with this, like gaining ground, or making them drive off a cliff. Sadly, they don't know what to do in case of a car accident. I witnessed a cop car flip over, so the cop got out and stood along side it. Car becomes car-b-q and he perishes. i also once drove for 3 miles with a cop walking ON my car like it was nothing.

    b. Triads in GT3 will attack you on sight(later in the game). They will do this in front of a cop. The cops look the other way. You do it, and suddenly you are in trouble.

    c. Civilians. I think you can tweak the AI of the pedestrians in the PC version of the GTA games. Sadly, if there is gunfire and they are in a car, they will suddenly go into Carmageddon mode. This is 100 times worse in True Crime since a hit & run takes off half your health. makes gunfights REAL hard in a congested area.

    d. "homies" in GTA: San Andreas. See c. Your 'homies' are almost magnetized to be in front of an about-to-be-speeding car and thus you can lose 3-4 of your brothers in arms right when the gang battles get started. You have to be your own Rambo.

Witht that being said, the "perp" AI in True Crime: NYC is actually a bit better. I've had perps hide(crouch) behind cars on occasion, and during a melee this one guy kept blocking over and over(later in the game). Slightly better AI than the one time I saw an ambulance try to drive through a house in SA. In True Crime, peds will back up & go forward several times in their car to get the heck out of harm's way.
