Computer For a Child?

Are you out of your fucking mind? So what, your kid is potty trained now and you are going to start treating them like an adult? Huh? Parenting 101? A normal 2 year old is far too young to have a laptop. those choking labels for children under 3 apply to things other than just toys. furthermore, the child likely cannot even read yet. i mean what is possibly the rush to spend money so foolishly? (especially in light of recent events) t would be fine, however, to let the kid play with your computer every once in a while under supervision. i mean you are posting here, you should have probably like 5 pentium 3s laying around. through ubuntu and some paint program and maybe a couple of simple games on it and let the kid have at it. All, within supervision, of course. Geez, I really think I would hate to be your kid. its probably always whatever daddy wants to do. let your kid develop into their own persona and give them the steps and building blocks along the way to develop their abilities. you can't force something onto a kid. don't be the douchebag dad that makes his kid play football and join the boy scouts, because that is what he did as a kid. (though I must admit, I had a lot of fun as a boy scout) the kid is two. Appropriate playthings at age 2 include blocks (not legos, LARGE blocks) wooden car and train sets, dolls, things that are, you know, rated safe for children *3* and under. Take the kid outside and play in the park. Children really need engaging and giving them some mysterious electronic box that will likely hypnotize them is a dangerous thing. This also goes for TV. Introduce the kid to other kids. Give them a normal life and not one where they spend their childhood staring at some tv screen or some computer screen. If you let children follow their own path (with some guidance of course), you tend to get some pretty amazing results.
I mean its not like wine goes bad fast or anything....couldn't he have simply just relabeled the bottles without a picture of godzilla and gee, give %5 of the take to ip holders? Maybe he should have sent a couple of bottles to japan.
I second that. Print to PDF is so amazingly handy it makes you wonder why nobody thought if it sooner. It should also be a good workaround for the people that have problems with how open office tends to drop fonts in pdfs.
Nobody ever played Bethesda's games for the NPCs. Better dialogue has been around since...what...Ultima VI? The sandbox is what makes the games interesting.
Of course this doesn't really apply to web browser hijacks, but you can at least intercept a lot of your outgoing traffic. The problem is that most people just click the ok button willy nilly because they want to see it go away.
Bring the damned up arrow back so we can get to the parent folders! Navigating with the new explorer makes me want to throw chairs at steve ballmer. No up arrow?!?! No direct access to a list of drives...just history from internet explorer?!?!? How the fuck do you click up into the desktop now?! Navigation is only one way ---> down. Really>!?!?!? Who thought that brilliant concept up?
depends on the driver. what the hell is a kernel supposed to do when the video card driver borks or when say it loses the ide controller or some other critical component? drivers are the only gateway to the hardware, the kernel has to at least trust the driver on a certain level to play fair. next you'll be saying that faulty hardware is an os issue and so on. hardware abstraction has its limits. if you were to sandbox the hardware you'd be, well, running a virtual machine. we all know how well those perform versus native access to the hardware.
Forgive my ignorance, but why does everyone hate twitter so? I was absent for a while from slashdot and I seem to have missed the twitter hate fest. Could you please possibly be a chap and explain, because I've simply become far more than curious at this point.
How is Buddhism not a religion? It is practiced in many forms...Zen Buddhism is my favorite. I guess you can call it methodology or a practice. For many, including myself, it is at least a perspective that involves some level of belief. I guess the same could be said about our "objective" physical reality.
I will also throw in a nod for Avast. I've used just about every free virus scanner out there and Avast seems to work about the best. I used to love AVG, but it has become the epitome of bloatware as of late. Avira is a close second, but the daily nag screen got to be a bit annoying. Avast found viruses that no other scanner had found on files that were years old. It did seem to have some false positives, but to be honest, I've always erred on the side of caution.
If I steal a CD from a store that is a misdemeanor....
If I download a song...THAT IS A FELONY?!?!?!?!?
WTF?!!?!?!?!?
Don't worry. They are already have massive surveillance in place. It won't be hard to pick out the offenders. I think we need to start looking at the RIAA under RICO statutes.
Aren't the jails already full of non-violent drug offenders???
Disgusting. How much longer before we can convince the nation to pick up some rifles and march to DC?
With high-grade technology getting so cheap these days why don't they make real thin clients? I mean if a small itx board with some flash can be crammed into the the case of a 15" monitor why don't more companies just jump on this, especially with the growing shift towards java and web based applications? As you mentioned in your other post, citrix terminals and what not are very bandwidth hungry. The thin client becomes a real thin client and one that can actually run a modern OS and can even run their precioussssss office. I mean why do companies spend 3-400 for a box when they could just buy some thin client for say $200 and retain just about the same functionality? What do the office drones really need? the web and office? sounds good to me...
Its called tinnitus. Patrick Stewart is a pretty well known case. Band musicians tend to get it from playing in front of deafening monitors all the time as well. Don't think there is much that you can do about it. Limiting the volume of mp3 players would be a terrible idea. My cheap insignia is only really listenable between 30-40 on the dial. 40 is the max. Maybe I am going deaf too.....;)
If you switch to neutral the transmission spins freely. If you leave it in drive the transmission does not move since your tires are stopped. The torque converter lets the engine spin and not stall. In short, you do not save anything in fuel economy as the engine is at idle in both situations. However, while in neutral, you are adding wear and tear to your transmission.
Oh wait. British do not have militias or guns. I guess you are powerless to change anything. Now you know exactly why our american forefathers had the foresight to let us keep our guns. Modern day britain is so 1984 that it is scary considering that the US is only a half-step behind. Where is Guy Fawkes when you need him?
The PSX did all of its operations on the main 33mhz MIPS based processor. It did have a very fast bus between the processor and the framebuffer. No 3d hardware outside of some 3d transformation engine that was built into the main CPU, apparently with SGI licensed technology. The N64's GPU was purely based on SGI tech. As a side note, the CPU was also used as the sound processing unit. A lot of PSX games used sample based music which took up lot less space on a disk. Not really much different from the SNES, except that 16-bit playback was now possible.
Either way, these samples have all been independently tested to prove that they were not from the planet Earth. If they can fly rocks back, they sure as hell can fly back astronauts. Furthermore, every one of the conspiracy theorists theories have been thoroughly debunked. There is no smoking gun. The van allen radiation belts would not have had much impact since their trajectory mostly avoided them and they passed through them in a very short period of time. The shuttle has passed through them at least once with no ill effects. Not everything you read is true I'm afraid.

At least one guy had the 4 port usb hub that ships with rock band catch on fire.

I stumbled that a while ago.

The visions coalesce and become flesh
Wait a minute........

Uh. Everyone has problems hearing words on a cell phone in noisy environments. Your hearing is fine!

That's what I was thinking. I've certainly had motherboards just sitting on a desk before without issues....
Not a clock...but here are some great graphs.

People are not outraged enough. If they were, it would make a very large difference.

How did they get the 900lbs of lunar rock back?
