    ... I like to alert folks out there, who might not normally have a clue, that there are open source (and generally superior) products that can replace the ones that they've been using. Starting with Firefox, of course. :-)

    I believe it's about enabling them to choose what they want to use.

    How, exactly, is shockwave "basic and simple?"

    I would think that straight HTML would be the simplest (barring plain text, of course) - throw in some CSS and you could make a very nice site, *without* requiring a plugin of a modern, standards-compliant browser.

    On a related note, is it my imaginaton, or is the purpose of the IDSA pretty much just to stroke the egos of of artists and the corporations that have hired them?

    1995: SCO UNIX (I know, i know, but I had to use it at work)
    1997: Slackware
    1999: Debian
    2000?: Gentoo
    2001?: Back to Debian

    Still using Debian (mix of stable+testing) and, barring conflict.dependency issues with mplayer-k7/libvorbis, I've never been happier.

    I'd recommend starting with Slackware - it worked for me.

    You know, I'm a little sick of people dumping (no pun intended) on New Jersey like this. Sure, we've got our industrial areas, but most of the state (away from the Turnpike) is actually quite nice.

    Look at the industrialized areas of your own state before mocking ours.

    • no stupid rubberized or gel casing
    • ultra-fine point (i happen to like that)
    Someone mentioned smearing; i haven't had a problem with that - guess i don't drag my hand all over the paper.
